Однажды Иисус проходил мимо человека, слепого от рождения.

And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.

Ученики Его спросили: — Учитель, почему этот человек родился слепым, кто согрешил, он сам или его родители?

And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

— Ни он сам, ни его родители, — ответил Иисус. Это произошло для того, чтобы на нем были явлены Божьи дела.

Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

Пока еще день не кончился, мы должны совершать дела того, кто послал Меня. Наступает ночь, и тогда уже никто не сможет ничего делать.

I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

Пока Я в мире, Я — свет миру.

As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

Иисус сказал это, плюнул на землю, смешал слюну с землей и помазал ею глаза слепому.

When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,

— A теперь пойди и умойся в бассейне Силоам, — сказал Он слепому (Силоам значит: "Посланный"). Слепой пошел, умылся и вернулся зрячим.

And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

Соседи его и те, кто раньше видели его просящим милостыню, спрашивали: — Разве это не он сидел и просил милостыню?

The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?

Одни говорили, что это был он. Другие говорили: — Да нет, он только похож на него. Исцеленный же сам говорил: — Это я.

Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.

— Как же ты прозрел? — спрашивали они.

Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?

Он ответил: — Человек, которого зовут Иисусом, смешал грязь и помазал мои глаза, потом Он сказал мне пойти в Силоам и умыться. Я пошел, умылся и стал видеть.

He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.

— Где этот человек? — спрашивали они его. — Я не знаю, — отвечал исцеленный.

Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.

Человека, который раньше был слепым, привели к фарисеям,

They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.

потому что Иисус смешал грязь и открыл ему глаза в субботу.

And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.

Фарисеи тоже спросили его, как к нему вернулось зрение. — Он помазал мои глаза грязью, — ответил исцеленный, — я умылся и теперь вижу.

Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.

Некоторые фарисеи стали говорить: — Человек этот не от Бога, потому что Он не чтит субботу. Другие же спрашивали: — Как грешник может совершать такие чудеса? Мнения разделились.

Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.

Тогда они опять стали расспрашивать слепого: — Что ты сам можешь сказать о Нем? Это ведь твои глаза Он открыл. Человек ответил: — Он пророк.

They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.

Иудеи все еще не верили, что он был слеп и что к нему вернулось зрение, и поэтому позвали его родителей.

But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.

— Это ваш сын? — спросили они. — Это о нем вы говорите, что он родился слепым? Как же он может сейчас видеть?

And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?

— Мы знаем, что это наш сын, — ответили родители, — и мы знаем, что он родился слепым.

His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:

A то, как он сейчас может видеть и как были открыты его глаза, мы не знаем. Спросите его сами. Он уже совершеннолетний и может сам ответить за себя.

But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.

Родители так ответили из боязни перед иудеями, так как иудеи уже вынесли решение о том, что кто признает Иисуса Мессией, тот будет отлучен от синагоги.

These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

Поэтому родители и сказали: "Он уже совершеннолетний, спросите его самого".

Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.

Они во второй раз вызвали человека, который был слепым. — Прославь Бога, — сказали они, — мы знаем, что этот человек грешник.

Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.

Исцеленный ответил: — Грешник Он или нет, я не знаю. Я знаю одно, что я был слеп, а сейчас вижу!

He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

Они спросили: — Что Он с тобой сделал? Как Он открыл твои глаза?

Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?

Он ответил: — Я уже говорил вам, а вы не слушали. Зачем вы хотите еще раз это услышать? Вы тоже хотите стать Его учениками?

He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?

Они стали выкрикивать ему оскорбления и говорить: — Сам ты Его ученик! Мы ученики Моисея!

Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples.

Мы знаем, что с Моисеем говорил Бог, а об этом человеке мы даже не знаем, откуда Он.

We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.

Исцеленный ответил: — Вот это-то и странно! Вы не знаете, откуда Он, а Он открыл мне глаза.

The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.

Мы знаем, что Бог грешников не слушает. Он слушает только тех, кто чтит Его и поступает по Его воле.

Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.

Никто еще никогда не слышал, чтобы у слепого с рождения открылись глаза.

Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.

Если бы этот человек не был от Бога, то Он не смог бы сделать ничего такого.

If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.

Они на это ответили: — Ты был рожден в грехах, как ты смеешь нас учить! И они выгнали его вон.

They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.

Иисус услышал о том, что фарисеи выгнали его вон, нашел его и спросил: — Ты веришь в Сына Человеческого?

Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?

— A кто Он, Господи? — спросил исцеленный. — Скажи мне, чтобы я в Него поверил!

He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?

Иисус сказал: — Ты сейчас Его видишь, Он говорит с тобой.

And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.

Тогда человек ответил: — Господи, я верю, — и поклонился Иисусу.

And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.

Иисус сказал: — Я пришел в этот мир для суда, чтобы слепые видели, а те кто видят — стали слепыми.

And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.

Фарисеи, которые были с Ним, слышали это и спросили: — Что? Мы, значит, тоже слепы?

And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?

Иисус сказал: — Если бы вы были слепы, то греха не было бы на вас, но так как вы заявляете, что видите, то грех ваш на вас остается.

Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.
