When Isaac was old and his eyes were so weak that he could no longer see, he called for Esau his older son and said to him, “My son.” “Here I am,” he answered.

Исаак состарился, и зрение его настолько притупилось, что он стал плохо видеть. Однажды он позвал к себе своего старшего сына Исава и сказал: "Сын!" "Здесь я", — ответил Исав.

Isaac said, “I am now an old man and don’t know the day of my death.

Исаак сказал: "Я стар, и, наверное, скоро умру!

Now then, get your equipment — your quiver and bow — and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.

Возьми свой лук и стрелы, пойди в поле и налови мне дичи,

Prepare me the kind of tasty food I like and bring it to me to eat, so that I may give you my blessing before I die.”

приготовь моё любимое кушанье и дай мне поесть, и тогда я благословлю тебя перед смертью".

Now Rebekah was listening as Isaac spoke to his son Esau. When Esau left for the open country to hunt game and bring it back,

Исав отправился на охоту. Ревекка слышала, как Исаак говорил всё это своему сыну Исаву,

Rebekah said to her son Jacob, “Look, I overheard your father say to your brother Esau,

и сказала своему сыну Иакову: "Вот, я слышала, как твой отец разговаривал с Исавом

‘Bring me some game and prepare me some tasty food to eat, so that I may give you my blessing in the presence of the Lord before I die.’

и сказал ему: "Налови дичи и приготовь мне кушанье, чтобы я мог поесть, и тогда я благословлю тебя перед смертью".

Now, my son, listen carefully and do what I tell you:

Теперь, сын мой, слушай и делай, что я говорю:

Go out to the flock and bring me two choice young goats, so I can prepare some tasty food for your father, just the way he likes it.

пойди туда, где мы держим коз, и принеси мне двух козлят, я приготовлю из них еду, которую любит твой отец,

Then take it to your father to eat, so that he may give you his blessing before he dies.”

ты отнесёшь кушанье отцу, и он благословит тебя перед смертью".

Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, “But my brother Esau is a hairy man while I have smooth skin.

Но Иаков сказал своей матери Ревекке: "Мой брат Исав покрыт волосами, я же не волосатый.

What if my father touches me? I would appear to be tricking him and would bring down a curse on myself rather than a blessing.”

Если отец дотронется до меня, то догадается, что я не Исав, и тогда не благословит меня, а проклянёт за то, что я хотел обмануть его".

His mother said to him, “My son, let the curse fall on me. Just do what I say; go and get them for me.”

Ревекка же сказала ему: "Если так случится, я приму вину на себя. Сделай всё, как я говорю, пойди и принеси мне козлят".

So he went and got them and brought them to his mother, and she prepared some tasty food, just the way his father liked it.

Иаков пошёл, взял двух козлят и принёс их матери, а мать приготовила их по-особому, как любил его отец.

Then Rebekah took the best clothes of Esau her older son, which she had in the house, and put them on her younger son Jacob.

Потом Ревекка взяла одежду, которую любил носить её старший сын Исав, надела её на младшего сына Иакова

She also covered his hands and the smooth part of his neck with the goatskins.

и, взяв шкуры козлят, обернула ими руки и шею Иакова.

Then she handed to her son Jacob the tasty food and the bread she had made.

Затем она взяла приготовленную еду и дала её Иакову;

He went to his father and said, “My father.” “Yes, my son,” he answered. “Who is it?”

Иаков же пошёл к отцу и сказал: "Отец". Отец ответил: "Кто ты, сын мой?"

Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn. I have done as you told me. Please sit up and eat some of my game, so that you may give me your blessing.”

"Я Исав, твой первенец, — ответил отцу Иаков. — Я сделал всё, как ты мне сказал. Садись и поешь дичи, которую я для тебя наловил, а потом благословишь меня".

Isaac asked his son, “How did you find it so quickly, my son?” “The Lord your God gave me success,” he replied.

Но Исаак спросил сына: "Как это ты так быстро нашёл и убил дичь?" Иаков ответил: "Господь, Бог твой, помог мне быстро найти дичь".

Then Isaac said to Jacob, “Come near so I can touch you, my son, to know whether you really are my son Esau or not.”

Тогда Исаак сказал Иакову: "Подойди ко мне, я ощупаю тебя, сын мой, чтобы знать, ты ли мой сын Исав".

Jacob went close to his father Isaac, who touched him and said, “The voice is the voice of Jacob, but the hands are the hands of Esau.”

Иаков подошёл к отцу своему Исааку, и тот, ощупав его, сказал: "У тебя голос Иакова, но руки все в волосах, как у Исава".

He did not recognize him, for his hands were hairy like those of his brother Esau; so he proceeded to bless him.

Исаак не узнал Иакова, потому что руки у него были волосатые, как у Исава, и благословил Иакова,

“Are you really my son Esau?” he asked. “I am,” he replied.

а потом спросил: "Ты ли мой сын Исав?" "Да, я", — ответил Иаков.

Then he said, “My son, bring me some of your game to eat, so that I may give you my blessing.” Jacob brought it to him and he ate; and he brought some wine and he drank.

Тогда Исаак сказал: "Принеси мне еду, я поем и благословлю тебя". Иаков дал ему еду, и он поел, потом Иаков дал ему вина, и Исаак выпил его.

Then his father Isaac said to him, “Come here, my son, and kiss me.”

Исаак сказал Иакову: "Сын, подойди, поцелуй меня".

So he went to him and kissed him. When Isaac caught the smell of his clothes, he blessed him and said, “Ah, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field that the Lord has blessed.

Иаков подошёл к отцу и поцеловал его. Исаак почувствовал запах одежды Исава и благословил его, сказав: "Запах сына моего, словно запах полей, благословенных Господом.

May God give you heaven’s dew and earth’s richness — an abundance of grain and new wine.

Да пошлёт тебе Господь дожди в изобилии, чтобы был у тебя хороший урожай и вино.

May nations serve you and peoples bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you. May those who curse you be cursed and those who bless you be blessed.”

Да служат тебе люди, и да склонятся перед тобой народы. Ты будешь править братьями своими, и сыновья матери твоей склонятся перед тобой и будут послушны тебе. Проклинающий тебя проклят будет, благословляющий же тебя будет благословен".

After Isaac finished blessing him, and Jacob had scarcely left his father’s presence, his brother Esau came in from hunting.

Как только Исаак закончил благословлять Иакова, и тот ушёл от отца, возвратился с охоты Исав.

He too prepared some tasty food and brought it to his father. Then he said to him, “My father, please sit up and eat some of my game, so that you may give me your blessing.”

Приготовив кушанье, которое любил отец, Исав принес его отцу и сказал: "Отец, это я, твой сын, встань и поешь мяса убитой мною для тебя дичи, а потом благословишь меня".

His father Isaac asked him, “Who are you?” “I am your son,” he answered, “your firstborn, Esau.”

Но Исаак спросил: "Кто ты такой?" "Я твой сын, твой перворожденный, Исав, " — ответил Исав.

Isaac trembled violently and said, “Who was it, then, that hunted game and brought it to me? I ate it just before you came and I blessed him — and indeed he will be blessed!”

Исаак заволновался и сказал: "Тогда кто же это приготовил для меня еду и принёс её мне до того, как ты пришёл? Я поел и благословил его, и теперь уже поздно взять обратно моё благословение".

When Esau heard his father’s words, he burst out with a loud and bitter cry and said to his father, “Bless me — me too, my father!”

Услышав слова отца, Исав закричал в гневе и горести, и сказал отцу: "Тогда благослови и меня тоже, отец!"

But he said, “Your brother came deceitfully and took your blessing.”

"Твой брат перехитрил меня, он пришёл и забрал твоё благословение!" — сказал Исаак.

Esau said, “Isn’t he rightly named Jacoba? This is the second time he has taken advantage of me: He took my birthright, and now he’s taken my blessing!” Then he asked, “Haven’t you reserved any blessing for me?”

"Не зря его зовут Иаковом! — сказал Исав. — Он перехитрил меня дважды: сперва отнял у меня право первородства, а теперь отнял и моё благословение". И спросил Исав отца: "А для меня ты оставил какое-нибудь благословение?"

Isaac answered Esau, “I have made him lord over you and have made all his relatives his servants, and I have sustained him with grain and new wine. So what can I possibly do for you, my son?”

"Слишком поздно, — ответил Исаак. — Я отдал Иакову власть над тобой и сказал ему, что все его братья будут его слугами, и благословил его зерно и вино, и нечего мне больше дать тебе, сын мой!"

Esau said to his father, “Do you have only one blessing, my father? Bless me too, my father!” Then Esau wept aloud.

Но Исав продолжал с рыданиями умолять отца: "Неужели у тебя только одно благословение, отец? Благослови и меня тоже, отец!"

His father Isaac answered him, “Your dwelling will be away from the earth’s richness, away from the dew of heaven above.

И сказал тогда ему Исаак: "Не жить тебе на хорошей земле, и не будет у тебя обильных дождей,

You will live by the sword and you will serve your brother. But when you grow restless, you will throw his yoke from off your neck.”

и придётся тебе бороться за свою жизнь. Будешь ты рабом брата своего, но в борьбе обретёшь свободу и вырвешься из-под его власти!"

Esau held a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him. He said to himself, “The days of mourning for my father are near; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”

После этого Исав возненавидел Иакова за то, что тот получил благословение, и решил про себя: "Отец мой вскоре умрёт, и мы будем горевать о нём, а потом я убью брата моего Иакова".

When Rebekah was told what her older son Esau had said, she sent for her younger son Jacob and said to him, “Your brother Esau is planning to avenge himself by killing you.

Узнав о том, что Исав задумал убить Иакова, Ревекка послала за Иаковом и сказала ему: "Послушай, твой брат Исав задумал убить тебя.

Now then, my son, do what I say: Flee at once to my brother Laban in Harran.

Так вот, сын мой, сделай, как я говорю: мой брат Лаван живёт в Харане, пойди и спрячься у него.

Stay with him for a while until your brother’s fury subsides.

Побудь у него некоторое время, пока твой брат не перестанет сердиться.

When your brother is no longer angry with you and forgets what you did to him, I’ll send word for you to come back from there. Why should I lose both of you in one day?”

Твой брат скоро забудет о том, что ты ему сделал, и тогда я пошлю за тобой слугу, чтобы ты возвратился, а иначе я в один день потеряю обоих сыновей".

Then Rebekah said to Isaac, “I’m disgusted with living because of these Hittite women. If Jacob takes a wife from among the women of this land, from Hittite women like these, my life will not be worth living.”

Ревекка сказала Исааку: "Твой сын Исав женился на хеттеянках, и это меня очень печалит, потому что они не нашего рода. Если Иаков тоже женится на одной из таких, то к чему мне жить!"
