Откупщики и грешники постоянно теснились вокруг Него, желая Его послушать.

Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him.

Но фарисеи и книжники роптали: «Он общается с грешниками и даже ест с ними вместе».

And the Pharisees and scribes complained, saying, “This Man [a]receives sinners and eats with them.”

Иисус рассказал им такую притчу:

So He spoke this parable to them, saying:

— Кто из вас, потеряв из сотни овец одну, не бросит девяносто девять остальных в пустыне, чтобы искать пропавшую, пока не отыщет ее?

“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?

Отыскав, он обрадуется, взвалит ее на плечи,

And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

вернётся домой и, созвав друзей и соседей, скажет им: «Разделите со мною радость, ибо я отыскал заблудившуюся овечку!»

And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’

Так и на небе, говорю вам, будут больше рады одному раскаявшемуся грешнику, чем девяноста девяти праведникам, которым нет нужды в покаянии.

I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine [b]just persons who need no repentance.

Какая хозяйка, потеряв из десяти драхм одну, не зажжет светильник и не станет, подметая пол, тщательно искать ее, пока не отыщет?

“Or what woman, having ten silver [c]coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it?

Отыскав, она созовет подруг и соседок и скажет им: «Разделите со мною радость, ибо я нашла пропавшую драхму!»

And when she has found it, she calls her friends and neighbors together, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I lost!’

Так и у ангелов Божьих, говорю вам, бывает радость и об одном раскаявшемся грешнике.

Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

А ещё Он сказал: — У одного человека было двое сыновей.

Then He said: “A certain man had two sons.

Младший однажды попросил: «Отец, выдели мне мою долю наследства». И тот поделил состояние между ними.

And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood.

Вскоре младший сын, собрав пожитки, отправился в дальние края и там промотал наследство, живя беспутно.

And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with [d]prodigal living.

А когда он всё прокутил, случился в той местности сильный голод, и тогда он узнал нужду.

But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want.

Он нанялся батраком к одному местному жителю, и тот послал его пасти свиней.

Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

И он был бы рад вволю наесться хотя бы стручков, которые шли на корм свиньям, но ему не давали ничего.

And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the [e]pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything.

Наконец, опомнившись, он сказал себе: «Сколько батраков в доме отца моего едят досыта, а я здесь умираю от голода.

“But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

Вот встану, пойду к отцу и скажу: «Отец, виноват я пред Небом и пред тобою

I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you,

и больше недостоин зваться твоим сыном. Возьми меня к себе в батраки».

and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.” ’

И, встав, он пошел к своему отцу. ещё издали отец увидел его и, охваченный жалостью, побежал навстречу, бросился ему на шею и расцеловал его.

“And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.

И сын сказал ему, «Отец, виноват я пред Небом и пред тобою, и больше недостоин зваться твоим сыном».

And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

А отец сказал слугам: «Живо несите самую лучшую одежду и оденьте его, наденьте ему перстень и обувь.

“But the father said to his servants, [f]‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.

Зарежьте откормленного теленка, устроим праздник,

And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry;

ибо сын мой был мертв, но вернулся к жизни, пропал, но теперь нашелся». И начался пир.

for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry.

А старший сын работал в поле. Возвращаясь домой, он услышал музыку с пением

“Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.

и, подозвав слугу, спросил, что это значит.

So he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant.

Тот ответил: «Твой брат вернулся, и отец заколол откормленного теленка, радуясь, что сын жив и невредим».

And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and because he has received him safe and sound, your father has killed the fatted calf.’

Разгневался старший брат и отказался войти в дом. Тогда отец вышел и стал упрашивать его.

“But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him.

Но он ответил отцу: «Уже столько лет я служу тебе, как раб, и ни разу не ослушался твоего приказа, но ты ни разу не дал мне даже козленка для пирушки с друзьями.

So he answered and said to his father, ‘Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends.

А когда вернулся этот твой сын, спустивши все деньги на непотребных девок, ты зарезал для него откормленного теленка!»

But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.’

Отец сказал: «Сынок, ты ведь всегда со мной, и все моё принадлежит тебе.

“And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours.

А без веселья и пира как обойтись теперь? Ведь брат твой был мертв, а теперь снова жив, пропал, а сейчас нашелся».

It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for your brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.’ ”
