"В таком случае, говорю я, неужели Бог отрёкся от Своего народа?" Да запретят Небеса! Ведь сам я сын Израиля, от семени Авраама, из колена Вениамина.

I ask, then, has God rejected his own people, the nation of Israel? Of course not! I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham and a member of the tribe of Benjamin.

Бог не отрёкся от Своего народа, который Он предызбрал. Разве вы не знаете, что Еврейские Писания говорят об Илии? Тот жалуется Богу на Израиль:

No, God has not rejected his own people, whom he chose from the very beginning. Do you realize what the Scriptures say about this? Elijah the prophet complained to God about the people of Israel and said,

"Господь, пророки Твои убиты и жертвенники Твои разрушены, лишь я один остался, а теперь и меня хотят убить!"

“LORD, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.”a

Но что ответил ему Бог? "Я оставил Себе семь тысяч, чьи колени не преклонились перед Баалом".

And do you remember God’s reply? He said, “No, I have 7,000 others who have never bowed down to Baal!”b

То же самое и в настоящем веке: есть остаток, избранный из милости.

It is the same today, for a few of the people of Israelc have remained faithful because of God’s grace — his undeserved kindness in choosing them.

(Если же из милости, значит, не на основании законнических дел; иначе милость перестала бы быть милостью).

And since it is through God’s kindness, then it is not by their good works. For in that case, God’s grace would not be what it really is — free and undeserved.

Отсюда следует, что Израиль не достиг цели, к которой стремится. Избранные достигли её, но остальные сделались жестокосердными,

So this is the situation: Most of the people of Israel have not found the favor of God they are looking for so earnestly. A few have — the ones God has chosen — but the hearts of the rest were hardened.

подобно тому, как говорится в Еврейских Писаниях: "Бог дал им дух усыпления — глаза невидящие, уши неслышащие вплоть до сего дня".

As the Scriptures say, “God has put them into a deep sleep. To this day he has shut their eyes so they do not see, and closed their ears so they do not hear.”d

И Давид говорит: "Да будет стол их ловушкой для них и капканом, западнёй и наказанием.

Likewise, David said, “Let their bountiful table become a snare, a trap that makes them think all is well. Let their blessings cause them to stumble, and let them get what they deserve.

Пусть помрачатся глаза их, чтобы не видеть, и спины их сделай согбенными навсегда".

Let their eyes go blind so they cannot see, and let their backs be bent forever.”e

"В таком случае, говорю я, не споткнулись ли они, чтобы отпасть навсегда?" Да запретят Небеса! Напротив, именно благодаря тому, что они преткнулись, избавление пришло к язычникам, чтобы возбудить в них ревность.

Did God’s people stumble and fall beyond recovery? Of course not! They were disobedient, so God made salvation available to the Gentiles. But he wanted his own people to become jealous and claim it for themselves.

Более того, если их преткновение обогащает мир — то есть если Израиль был временно поставлен в положение менее благоприятное, чем у язычников, и это обогатило последних, — то насколько же большее богатство принесёт им Израиль в своей полноте!

Now if the Gentiles were enriched because the people of Israel turned down God’s offer of salvation, think how much greater a blessing the world will share when they finally accept it.

Однако вам, язычники, скажу следующее: в силу того, что сам я посланник, направленный к язычникам, я рассказываю [всюду] о важности моего труда,

I am saying all this especially for you Gentiles. God has appointed me as the apostle to the Gentiles. I stress this,

в надежде, что мне удастся возбудить ревность у некоторых [представителей] моего народа и спасти некоторых из них!

for I want somehow to make the people of Israel jealous of what you Gentiles have, so I might save some of them.

Ведь если отвержение Иисуса с их стороны несёт примирение миру, то что же принесёт принятие? Это будет жизнь из мёртвых!

For since their rejection meant that God offered salvation to the rest of the world, their acceptance will be even more wonderful. It will be life for those who were dead!

Далее, если хала, приносимая в качестве первого плода, свята, то [свята] и вся булка. И если корень свят, то и ветви [святы].

And since Abraham and the other patriarchs were holy, their descendants will also be holy — just as the entire batch of dough is holy because the portion given as an offering is holy. For if the roots of the tree are holy, the branches will be, too.

Но если некоторые из ветвей отломились, а ты — дикая маслина — был привит посреди них и стал наравне с ними пользоваться богатством корня маслины,

But some of these branches from Abraham’s tree — some of the people of Israel — have been broken off. And you Gentiles, who were branches from a wild olive tree, have been grafted in. So now you also receive the blessing God has promised Abraham and his children, sharing in the rich nourishment from the root of God’s special olive tree.

то не хвались, словно ты лучше [остальных] ветвей! Однако, если хвалишься, помни, что не ты поддерживаешь корень, а корень поддерживает тебя.

But you must not brag about being grafted in to replace the branches that were broken off. You are just a branch, not the root.

Тогда ты скажешь: "Ветви отломились, чтобы я привился".

“Well,” you may say, “those branches were broken off to make room for me.”

Правильно, но что дальше? Они отломились из-за недостатка доверия [Богу]. Но ведь ты держишься только благодаря своему доверию [Богу]. Потому не будь заносчив; наоборот, бойся!

Yes, but remember — those branches were broken off because they didn’t believe in Christ, and you are there because you do believe. So don’t think highly of yourself, but fear what could happen.

Ведь если Бог не пожалел природные ветви, то, конечно же, не пожалеет и тебя!

For if God did not spare the original branches, he won’tf spare you either.

Потому приглядись повнимательней к Божьей доброте и строгости: с одной стороны, строгости по отношению к отломившимся, но, с другой стороны, Божьей доброте по отношению к тебе — если только сам ты хранишь себя в этой доброте! Иначе и ты будешь отсечён!

Notice how God is both kind and severe. He is severe toward those who disobeyed, but kind to you if you continue to trust in his kindness. But if you stop trusting, you also will be cut off.

Более того, оставшиеся [ветви], если не станут упорствовать в недостатке доверия [Богу], будут привиты обратно; поскольку Бог в силах привить их обратно.

And if the people of Israel turn from their unbelief, they will be grafted in again, for God has the power to graft them back into the tree.

Ибо если ты был отрезан от дикой по природе маслины и привит, вопреки природе, к культивированной маслине, насколько же проще эти природные ветви привьются обратно к своей собственной маслине!

You, by nature, were a branch cut from a wild olive tree. So if God was willing to do something contrary to nature by grafting you into his cultivated tree, he will be far more eager to graft the original branches back into the tree where they belong.

Я же, братья, хочу, чтобы вы осознали истину, которую Бог прежде хранил в тайне, но теперь открыл, чтобы вы не думали, что знаете больше того, что есть на самом деле. [Истину] о том, что жестокосердие, в какой-то мере, нашло на Израиль до тех пор, пока не войдёт полное число язычников;

I want you to understand this mystery, dear brothers and sisters,g so that you will not feel proud about yourselves. Some of the people of Israel have hard hearts, but this will last only until the full number of Gentiles comes to Christ.

и что именно таким образом весь Израиль спасётся. Как говорят Еврейские Писания: "Из Сиона придет Избавитель; он отвратит нечестие от Иакова

And so all Israel will be saved. As the Scriptures say, “The one who rescues will come from Jerusalem,h and he will turn Israeli away from ungodliness.

и вот договор Мой с ними... когда Я прощу им грехи их".

And this is my covenant with them, that I will take away their sins.”j

В отношении Доброй Вести они ненавидимы ради вас. Но в отношении избрания, они любимы ради Патриархов,

Many of the people of Israel are now enemies of the Good News, and this benefits you Gentiles. Yet they are still the people he loves because he chose their ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

поскольку Божьи дары и Его призвание не подлежат пересмотру.

For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn.

Подобно тому, как сами вы прежде были непокорны Богу, но теперь помилованы из-за непокорности Израиля,

Once, you Gentiles were rebels against God, but when the people of Israel rebelled against him, God was merciful to you instead.

так и Израиль непокорен сейчас, чтобы быть помилованным Богом, если вы проявите к нему ту же милость, которую Бог проявил к вам.

Now they are the rebels, and God’s mercy has come to you so that they, too, will sharek in God’s mercy.

Ибо Бог заключил всё человечество в непокорности, чтобы проявить милость ко всем.

For God has imprisoned everyone in disobedience so he could have mercy on everyone.

О глубина богатства, мудрости и познания Бога! Как непостижимы Его суды! Как неисследимы Его пути!

Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways!

Ибо кто познал ум Господа? Кто был Ему советником?

For who can know the LORD’s thoughts? Who knows enough to give him advice?l

Или, кто давал Ему что-либо, чтобы Он должен был возвратить?

And who has given him so much that he needs to pay it back?m

Ибо от Него и через Него и для Него всё. Ему да будет слава вовеки! Аминь, да будет так.

For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.
