Now concerning how and when all this will happen, dear brothers and sisters,a we don’t really need to write you.

О временах же и сроках нет нужды писать вам, братья,

For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night.

ибо сами вы достоверно знаете, что день Господень так придет, как вор ночью.

When people are saying, “Everything is peaceful and secure,” then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman’s labor pains begin. And there will be no escape.

Ибо, когда будут говорить: «Мир и безопасность», тогда внезапно постигнет их пагуба, подобно как мука родами постигает имеющую во чреве, и не избегнут.

But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief.b

Но вы, братья, не во тьме, чтобы день застал вас, как вор.

For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night.

Ибо все вы — сыны света и сыны дня. Мы не сыны ночи, ни тьмы.

So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded.

Итак, не будем спать, как и прочие, но будем бодрствовать и трезвиться.

Night is the time when people sleep and drinkers get drunk.

Ибо спящие спят ночью, и упивающиеся упиваются ночью.

But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.

Мы же, будучи сынами дня, да трезвимся, облекшись в броню веры и любви и в шлем надежды спасения,

For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us.

потому что Бог определил нас не на гнев, но к получению спасения через Господа нашего Иисуса Христа,

Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever.

умершего за нас, чтобы мы, бодрствуем ли или спим, жили вместе с Ним.

So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

Поэтому увещайте друг друга и назидайте один другого, как вы и делаете.

Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are your leaders in the Lord’s work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance.

Просим же вас, братья, уважать трудящихся у вас, и начальствующих ваших в Господе, и вразумляющих вас

Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work. And live peacefully with each other.

и почитать их с особой любовью за дело их; будьте в мире между собой.

Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone.

Умоляем также вас, братья: вразумляйте бесчинных, утешайте малодушных, поддерживайте слабых, будьте долготерпеливы ко всем.

See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people.

Смотрите, чтобы кто кому не воздавал злом за зло; но всегда ищите добра и друг другу, и всем.

Always be joyful.

Всегда радуйтесь.

Never stop praying.

Непрестанно молитесь.

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

За все благодарите, ибо такова о вас воля Божия во Христе Иисусе.

Do not stifle the Holy Spirit.

Духа не угашайте.

Do not scoff at prophecies,

Пророчества не уничижайте.

but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good.

Все испытывайте, хорошего держитесь.

Stay away from every kind of evil.

Удерживайтесь от всякого рода зла.

Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.

Сам же Бог мира да освятит вас во всей полноте, и ваш дух, и душа, и тело во всей целости да сохранятся без порока в пришествие Господа нашего Иисуса Христа.

God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful.

Верен Призывающий вас, Который и сотворит это.

Dear brothers and sisters, pray for us.

Братья! Молитесь о нас.

Greet all the brothers and sisters with a sacred kiss.

Приветствуйте всех братьев поцелуем святым.

I command you in the name of the Lord to read this letter to all the brothers and sisters.

Заклинаю вас Господом прочитать это послание всем святым братьям.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Благодать Господа нашего Иисуса Христа с вами. Аминь.
