Now concerning how and when all this will happen, dear brothers and sisters,a we don’t really need to write you.

Извещать вас, братья, о временах и сроках нет нужды.

For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night.

Вы сами прекрасно знаете, что День Господень придет, как тать в ночи приходит.

When people are saying, “Everything is peaceful and secure,” then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman’s labor pains begin. And there will be no escape.

Когда люди будут говорить: «На земле мир, безопасность», — тогда внезапно найдет на них пагуба, как внезапно у роженицы начинаются схватки. Некуда будет бежать.

But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief.b

Но вы, братья, не во тьме. Невозможно, чтобы День, как тать, застал вас врасплох.

For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night.

Вы все — носители света и носители дня, потому что мы не носители ни ночи, ни тьмы.

So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded.

Не будем же спать, как прочие, а будем бодрствовать и оставаться трезвыми.

Night is the time when people sleep and drinkers get drunk.

Ночью спят все — это время сна. А пьяница во сне и ночью пьян.

But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.

Мы, носители дня, останемся трезвыми, облечемся в доспехи веры и любви и в шлем надежды на спасение.

For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us.

Произволением Божьим мы подлежим не гневу, а спасению через Господа нашего Иисуса Христа,

Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever.

Умершего за нас, чтобы мы, — все равно: не спим или уснули, — вместе с Ним жили.

So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

Продолжайте помогать друг другу советом и учиться друг у друга, как уже и делаете.

Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are your leaders in the Lord’s work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance.

Настоятельно просим вас, братья, бережно относиться к тем работникам, кто направляет вас на путь, вразумляет словом Господним.

Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work. And live peacefully with each other.

Любите их и по достоинству цените их труд. Да будет мир между вами.

Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone.

А также просим вас, братья, наставлять на ум изленившихся, учить бесстрашию боязливых, быть опорой беспомощным. Будьте терпеливы со всеми.

See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people.

Пусть никто у вас злом за зло никому не воздает. Всегда лишь о добром хлопочите друг для друга и для всех.

Always be joyful.

Всегда радуйтесь.

Never stop praying.

Непрестанно молитесь.

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

За все благодарите — в этом Божья воля относительно вас, кто верит в Христа Иисуса.

Do not stifle the Holy Spirit.

Духа не гасите.

Do not scoff at prophecies,

От слов пророческих не отмахивайтесь.

but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good.

Во всем доходите до истины. Примыкайте ко всему доброму.

Stay away from every kind of evil.

Не участвуйте ни в каком виде зла.

Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.

Пусть Сам Бог мира и согласия наделит вас святостью во всем! Пусть вам будет дано сохранить себя во всей целости духа, души и тела до возвращения Господа нашего Иисуса Христа!

God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful.

Тот, кто призывает вас, верен и дело Свое сделает.

Dear brothers and sisters, pray for us.

Братья! Молитесь о нас.

Greet all the brothers and sisters with a sacred kiss.

Приветствуйте всех братьев святым целованием.

I command you in the name of the Lord to read this letter to all the brothers and sisters.

Заклинаю вас Господом зачитать это послание всем братьям.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Благодать Господа нашего Иисуса Христа да будет с вами!
