At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,

В то время об Иисусе услышал и тетрарх Ирод.

and said to his servants, This is John the baptist: he is risen from the dead, and because of this these works of power display their force in him.

Он говорил своим приближенным: — Это Иоанн Креститель. Он воскрес из мертвых, и поэтому в Нем такая чудодейственная сила.

For Herod had seized John, and had bound him and put him in prison on account of Herodias the wife of Philip his brother.

В свое время Ирод арестовал Иоанна, связал его и бросил в тюрьму из-за Иродиады, жены своего брата Филиппа,

For John said to him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.

потому что Иоанн упрекал Ирода и говорил ему: "Нельзя тебе жить с ней".

And [while] desiring to kill him, he feared the crowd, because they held him for a prophet.

Ирод хотел убить Иоанна, но боялся народа, так как все считали Иоанна пророком.

But when Herod's birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod;

И вот, когда Ирод праздновал свой день рождения, дочь Иродиады танцевала перед гостями и так понравилась Ироду,

whereupon he promised with oath to give her whatsoever she should ask.

что он клятвенно обещал дать ей все, чего бы она ни попросила.

But she, being set on by her mother, says, Give me here upon a dish the head of John the baptist.

Подговоренная своей матерью, девушка сказала: — Подай мне сюда, на блюде, голову Иоанна Крестителя.

And the king was grieved; but on account of the oaths, and those lying at table with [him], he commanded [it] to be given.

Царя это сильно опечалило, но, так как он поклялся перед всеми гостями, то велел исполнить ее желание.

And he sent and beheaded John in the prison;

По его приказу Иоанну отрубили в тюрьме голову,

and his head was brought upon a dish, and was given to the damsel, and she carried [it] to her mother.

принесли ее на блюде и отдали девушке, а та отнесла ее матери.

And his disciples came and took the body and buried it, and came and brought word to Jesus.

Ученики Иоанна, забрав тело, похоронили его, а затем пошли и рассказали обо всем Иисусу.

And Jesus, having heard it, went away thence by ship to a desert place apart. And the crowds having heard [of it] followed him on foot from the cities.

Услышав о судьбе Иоанна, Иисус переправился на лодке в пустынное место, чтобы побыть одному. Но люди из окрестных городов узнали, куда Он отправился, и пошли туда пешком.

And going out he saw a great crowd, and was moved with compassion about them, and healed their infirm.

Когда лодка Иисуса пристала к берегу, там Его уже ожидало множество людей. Ему стало их жаль, и Он стал исцелять больных, которые были среди них.

But when even was come, his disciples came to him saying, The place is desert, and [much of] the [day] time already gone by; dismiss the crowds, that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves.

Наступил вечер. Ученики Иисуса сказали: — Это отдаленное место, уже поздно, отпусти людей, чтобы они успели дойти до ближайших деревень и купить себе еды.

But Jesus said to them, They have no need to go: give ye them to eat.

Иисус ответил: — Им не нужно уходить отсюда. Вы дайте им есть.

But they say to him, We have not here save five loaves and two fishes.

— Но у нас только пять хлебов и две рыбы, — ответили ученики.

And he said, Bring them here to me.

— Принесите все это ко Мне, — сказал Иисус.

And having commanded the crowds to recline upon the grass, having taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed: and having broken the loaves, he gave [them] to the disciples, and the disciples [gave them] to the crowds.

Он велел народу расположиться на траве, взял эти пять хлебов и две рыбы и, обратив глаза к небу, поблагодарил Бога. Затем Он стал разламывать хлеб и давать ученикам, а те — народу.

And all ate and were filled, and they took up what was over and above of fragments twelve hand-baskets full.

Все, кто там был, ели и наелись, и собрали еще двенадцать полных корзин остатков!

But those that had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Всего же ели пять тысяч мужчин, не считая женщин и детей.

And immediately he compelled the disciples to go on board ship, and to go on before him to the other side, until he should have dismissed the crowds.

Сразу после этого Иисус велел своим ученикам сесть в лодку и переправиться на другую сторону озера, а сам Он оставался, пока не отпустил народ.

And having dismissed the crowds, he went up into the mountain apart to pray. And when even was come, he was alone there,

А когда народ разошелся, Иисус один поднялся на склон горы, чтобы помолиться. Наступил вечер, и Иисус оставался на горе.

but the ship was already in the middle of the sea tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.

Тем временем ученики в лодке отплыли уже далеко от берега. Лодку били волны, так как дул встречный ветер.

But in the fourth watch of the night he went off to them, walking on the sea.

Уже перед рассветом, Иисус пришел к ученикам по поверхности озера.

And the disciples, seeing him walking on the sea, were troubled, saying, It is an apparition. And they cried out through fear.

Когда ученики увидели, что кто-то идет по воде, то очень испугались. — Это привидение! — решили они и от страха закричали.

But Jesus immediately spoke to them, saying, Take courage; it is I: be not afraid.

Иисус сразу же сказал им: — Успокойтесь, не бойтесь, это Я.

And Peter answering him said, Lord, if it be thou, command me to come to thee upon the waters.

— Господи, если это Ты, — сказал тогда Петр, — то разреши мне прийти к Тебе по воде.

And he said, Come. And Peter, having descended from the ship, walked upon the waters to go to Jesus.

— Иди, — сказал Иисус. Петр вышел из лодки и пошел по воде к Иисусу.

But seeing the wind strong he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, Lord, save me.

Но увидя, как сильно дует ветер, он испугался и, начав тонуть, закричал: — Господи, спаси меня!

And immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught hold of him, and says to him, O thou of little faith, why didst thou doubt?

Иисус тотчас протянул руку и поддержал его. — Маловерный, — сказал Он, — зачем же ты стал сомневаться?

And when they had gone up into the ship, the wind fell.

Когда они вошли в лодку, ветер утих.

But those in the ship came and did homage to him, saying, Truly thou art God's Son.

Все, кто был в лодке, поклонились Иисусу. — Ты действительно Божий Сын, — сказали они.

And having crossed over they came to the land of Gennesaret.

Переправившись на другую сторону озера, они сошли на берег в Геннисарете.

And when the men of that place recognised him, they sent to that whole country around, and they brought to him all that were ill,

Местные жители сразу же узнали Иисуса и разнесли весть о Его приходе по всей округе. К Иисусу принесли всех больных

and besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment; and as many as touched were made thoroughly well.

и попросили Его позволить больным прикоснуться хотя бы к краю Его одежды. И все, кто прикасался, исцелялись.
