Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

Так отвечал Цофар из Наамы:

Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?

— Разве на потоки слов нет ответаи кто гладко говорит, тот и прав?

Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?

Если ты болтаешь — другим умолкнуть?Если глумишься — осадить тебя некому?

For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.

Ты решил, что рассуждаешь верно,говоришь, что чист перед Богом,

But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;

но если бы Бог заговорил,пожелал бы тебе ответить,

And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.

Он открыл бы тебе тайную мудрость,показал бы обратную сторону.Пойми, Он с тобой еще мягок.

Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?

Можешь ли открыть сокрытое Богоми найти предел Всесильному?

It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?

Дотянешься ли ты до небесной выси?Как познаешь то, что глубже Шеола,

The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

что длиной превосходит землю,а шириной — море?

If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?

Если Он пройдет, заключит в темницуи суд созовет — кто Его остановит?

For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it?

Знает он лжецов: увидит грех —так этого не оставит.

For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass's colt.

Пустая голова поумнеет не раньше,чем дикий осел станет человеком.

If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;

Если в сердце своем будешь честени будешь простирать руки к Богу,

If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.

если от греха избавишься,и не будет в шатре твоем порока —

For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:

тогда будешь смотреть без смущения,крепко стоять на ногах, не зная страха.

Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away:

Тогда забудешь о былом несчастье,словно о давно утекших водах;

And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.

жизнь твоя станет ярче полдняи сумрак сменится утром.

And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.

Будешь твердо знать, что есть надежда;посмотришь вокруг — можно спать спокойно.

Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.

Будешь отдыхать — никто тебя не тронет;и многие станут заискивать перед тобой.

But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.

Но померкнут глаза нечестивых,убежища им не будет,и вся надежда их — предсмертный вздох.
