Now He was also saying to the disciples, “There was a rich man who had a manager, and this manager was reported to him as squandering his possessions.

Иисус сказал ученикам: — У одного богача служил управляющий, которого обвинили в растрате.

“And he called him and said to him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an accounting of your management, for you can no longer be manager.’

Хозяин вызвал его и спросил: «Что это за слухи дошли до меня? Представь-ка отчет о своей работе; от должности я тебя отстраняю».

“The manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do, since my master is taking the management away from me? I am not strong enough to dig; I am ashamed to beg.

И задумался управляющий: «Что же мне делать? От работы хозяин меня отстранил. Копать землю я не могу. Просить подаяния не позволяет стыд.

‘I know what I shall do, so that when I am removed from the management people will welcome me into their homes.’

Впрочем, я знаю, как сделать, чтобы после увольнения люди с радостью меня принимали!»

“And he summoned each one of his master’s debtors, and he began saying to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’

Приглашая по одному должников хозяина, он спросил первого: «Что ты должен хозяину?»

“And he said, ‘A hundred measures of oil.’ And he said to him, ‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’

Тот ответил: «Сто мер оливкового масла». Он сказал: «Бери свою расписку, живо садись и пиши: пятьдесят».

“Then he said to another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ And he said, ‘A hundred measures of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and write eighty.’

Затем спросил второго: «А ты сколько должен?» Тот ответил: «Сто мешков пшеницы». Он сказал: «Бери расписку и переделай на восемьдесят».

“And his master praised the unrighteous manager because he had acted shrewdly; for the sons of this age are more shrewd in relation to their own kind than the sons of light.

И хозяин похвалил нечестного управляющего за находчивость, ибо сыны века сего в отношениях с себе подобными мудрее, чем сыны света.

“And I say to you, make friends for yourselves by means of the wealth of unrighteousness, so that when it fails, they will receive you into the eternal dwellings.

Вот и Я говорю вам: используйте неправедное богатство, чтобы приобрести друзей, и потом, когда богатство иссякнет, вам с радостью предоставят вечный кров.

“He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much.

Кто верен в малом, тот и в большом верен, а кто в малом нечестен, тот нечестен и в большом.

“Therefore if you have not been faithful in the use of unrighteous wealth, who will entrust the true riches to you?

Если неправедным богатством вы не сумели распорядиться, то истинное — кто вам доверит?

“And if you have not been faithful in the use of that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own?

Если чужим богатством вы не сумели распорядиться, то ваше — кто вам даст?

“No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”

Раб не может служить двум хозяевам сразу. Он или возненавидит одного и полюбит другого, или привяжется к одному, но охладеет к другому. Невозможно служить и богатству, и Богу.

Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things and were scoffing at Him.

Слушая это, фарисеи, будучи алчными, стали потешаться над Иисусом.

And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God.

И Он сказал им: — Перед людьми вы себя выдаете за праведников, но Бог знает ваши сердца. Что у людей в почете, то омерзительно Богу.

“The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John; since that time the gospel of the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.

Закон и пророки были до Иоанна. А с тех пор возвещается Царство Божье, и все стараются в него войти.

“But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one stroke of a letter of the Law to fail.

Но скорее небо и земля исчезнут, чем из Закона выпадет хоть одна черта.

“Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries one who is divorced from a husband commits adultery.

Кто разводится и женится снова, тот прелюбодействует, и кто женится на разведенной, тоже прелюбодействует.

“Now there was a rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, joyously living in splendor every day.

Жил один богач, одевавшийся в пурпур и виссон и все дни проводивший в пирах и веселье.

“And a poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores,

А у ворот его дома лежал, весь в язвах, бедняк по имени Лазарь,

and longing to be fed with the crumbs which were falling from the rich man’s table; besides, even the dogs were coming and licking his sores.

мечтавший об объедках с его стола. Но только собаки подходили зализывать его раны.

“Now the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried.

Пришло, наконец, время бедняку умереть, и ангелы перенесли его к Аврааму на лоно. Богач тоже умер и был погребен.

“In Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his bosom.

Находясь в преисподней и подвергаясь мучениям, он поднял глаза вверх, увидел вдали Авраама и Лазаря на его лоне

“And he cried out and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.’

и закричал: «Сжалься надо мной, отец Авраам! Пошли Лазаря, чтобы он смочил в воде кончик пальца и охладил мне язык, иначе не выдержу этого пламени!»

“But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony.

Но Авраам ответил: «Вспомни, чадо мое, что при жизни ты уже получил свою долю благ, Лазарь же — свою долю несчастий, а теперь он наслаждается, зато ты страдаешь.

‘And besides all this, between us and you there is a great chasm fixed, so that those who wish to come over from here to you will not be able, and that none may cross over from there to us.’

К тому же нас разделяет бездонная пропасть, чтобы отсюда никто не мог перейти к вам и чтобы к нам от вас никто не перебрался».

“And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, that you send him to my father’s house —

Тот сказал: «Тогда, отец, сделай милость, пошли Лазаря к моей семье.

for I have five brothers — in order that he may warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’

У меня пятеро братьев. Пусть он предостережет их, чтобы и они не попали в это место мучений».

“But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’

Авраам ответил: «У них есть Моисей и пророки. Так пусть слушают их».

“But he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!’

Тот сказал: «Нет, отец Авраам! Вот если кто-то из мертвых придет к ним, они раскаются».

“But he said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’”

Авраам ответил: «Уж если Моисей и пророки им не указ, их не переубедит даже воскресший из мертвых».
