Стремитесь к любви и ищите духовных даров, прежде всего — пророческого дара.

Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives — especially the ability to prophesy.

Кто говорит на ином языке, говорит не для людей, а для Бога. Он под воздействием Духа говорит таинственно, но никто этого не понимает.

For if you have the ability to speak in tongues,a you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit,b but it will all be mysterious.

А кто пророчествует, тот наставляет, ободряет и утешает людей.

But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them.

Если кто говорит на ином языке, он наставляет только сам себя, а кто пророчествует, наставляет всю церковь.

A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church.

Хочу, чтобы все вы говорили на языках, но еще лучше — чтобы вы пророчествовали. Пророчествовать важнее, чем говорить на языках, ведь вся церковь может получить наставление, только если кто-то будет сказанное на языках разъяснять.

I wish you could all speak in tongues, but even more I wish you could all prophesy. For prophecy is greater than speaking in tongues, unless someone interprets what you are saying so that the whole church will be strengthened.

Если я теперь приду к вам и стану говорить на языках, как это вам поможет — ведь мои слова не дадут вам ни откровения, ни познания, ни пророчества, ни наставления?

Dear brothers and sisters,c if I should come to you speaking in an unknown language,d how would that help you? But if I bring you a revelation or some special knowledge or prophecy or teaching, that will be helpful.

Возьмем неодушевленные инструменты, будь то флейта или арфа: если не придать игре на флейте или арфе отчетливого звучания, как можно будет различить мелодию?

Even lifeless instruments like the flute or the harp must play the notes clearly, or no one will recognize the melody.

И если военная труба издаст невнятный звук, кто станет готовиться к битве?

And if the bugler doesn’t sound a clear call, how will the soldiers know they are being called to battle?

И если ваш язык не произносит вразумительные слова, как можно понять сказанное? Так вы будете бросать сказанное на ветер.

It’s the same for you. If you speak to people in words they don’t understand, how will they know what you are saying? You might as well be talking into empty space.

Сколько бы ни оказалось в мире языков, всякий из них понятен тем, кто им владеет!

There are many different languages in the world, and every language has meaning.

Но если я не знаю строя этой речи, она для меня — варварское бормотание, и сам я для говорящего — варвар.

But if I don’t understand a language, I will be a foreigner to someone who speaks it, and the one who speaks it will be a foreigner to me.

Так и с вами, искатели духовных даров: стремитесь получить те из них, которые окажутся наставительными для всей церкви.

And the same is true for you. Since you are so eager to have the special abilities the Spirit gives, seek those that will strengthen the whole church.

Кто говорит на ином языке, пусть молится о даре истолкования.

So anyone who speaks in tongues should pray also for the ability to interpret what has been said.

Ведь если моя молитва звучит на ином языке, дух мой участвует в молитве, но разум остается безучастным.

For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don’t understand what I am saying.

Что же из этого следует? Стану молиться духом, но помолюсь и разумом; стану воспевать Бога духом, но воспою и разумом.

Well then, what shall I do? I will pray in the spirit,e and I will also pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I will also sing in words I understand.

А когда ты духом произносишь благословение — как самый простой из вас человек скажет в ответ на твое благословение «аминь», если он даже не понял сказанного?

For if you praise God only in the spirit, how can those who don’t understand you praise God along with you? How can they join you in giving thanks when they don’t understand what you are saying?

Может быть, твое благословение было прекрасным, но другому оно не принесло наставления.

You will be giving thanks very well, but it won’t strengthen the people who hear you.

Благодарю Бога, я говорю на иных языках больше, чем все вы!

I thank God that I speak in tongues more than any of you.

Но в церкви лучше скажу пять слов своим разумом, наставляя и других, нежели тысячи слов на ином языке.

But in a church meeting I would rather speak five understandable words to help others than ten thousand words in an unknown language.

Братья, не рассуждайте по-младенчески! Да, будьте младенцами в отношении зла, но рассуждайте по-взрослому.

Dear brothers and sisters, don’t be childish in your understanding of these things. Be innocent as babies when it comes to evil, but be mature in understanding matters of this kind.

В Законе написано: «Иными языками, иными устами будут говорить этому народу, но и тогда не послушают Меня», — говорит Господь.

It is written in the Scripturesf: “I will speak to my own people through strange languages and through the lips of foreigners. But even then, they will not listen to me,”g says the LORD.

Так что способность говорить на иных языках дается как знамение для неверующих, а вовсе не для верующих. А пророчество, наоборот, дается верующим, а не тем, кто неверен.

So you see that speaking in tongues is a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers. Prophecy, however, is for the benefit of believers, not unbelievers.

Когда вся церковь соберется воедино и все начнут говорить на иных языках, и войдет кто-то из людей простых или неверующих, разве он не скажет, что вы обезумели?

Even so, if unbelievers or people who don’t understand these things come into your church meeting and hear everyone speaking in an unknown language, they will think you are crazy.

А если все станут пророчествовать и войдет неверующий или простой человек, ото всех вас он услышит обличение, ото всех — порицание,

But if all of you are prophesying, and unbelievers or people who don’t understand these things come into your meeting, they will be convicted of sin and judged by what you say.

тайные помышления его сердца станут явными, и он падет на землю, поклонится Богу и возгласит: «воистину Бог среди вас!»

As they listen, their secret thoughts will be exposed, and they will fall to their knees and worship God, declaring, “God is truly here among you.”

Так что же, братья? Когда вы собираетесь, у каждого есть или псалом, или наставление, или откровение, или иной язык, или его толкование: и всё пусть будет наставительно!

Well, my brothers and sisters, let’s summarize. When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpret what is said. But everything that is done must strengthen all of you.

И на ином языке пусть говорят не более двух, самое большее — трех из вас, и кто-нибудь один пусть разъясняет.

No more than two or three should speak in tongues. They must speak one at a time, and someone must interpret what they say.

Если же некому разъяснять, на языках лучше будет говорить наедине с собой и с Богом, а в церкви молчать.

But if no one is present who can interpret, they must be silent in your church meeting and speak in tongues to God privately.

И пророчествуют пусть только двое или трое, а остальные пусть рассуждают о сказанном.

Let two or three people prophesy, and let the others evaluate what is said.

И если, пока говорит один, откровение придет еще к кому-то из присутствующих, говорящий пусть умолкнет.

But if someone is prophesying and another person receives a revelation from the Lord, the one who is speaking must stop.

Вы все можете пророчествовать по очереди, чтобы все получили и наставление, и ободрение.

In this way, all who prophesy will have a turn to speak, one after the other, so that everyone will learn and be encouraged.

Духи, внушающие пророчества, сами подчиняются пророкам,

Remember that people who prophesy are in control of their spirit and can take turns.

ведь от Бога исходит не смута, но мир.Как принято и во всех церквях святого Божьего народа,

For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the meetings of God’s holy people.h

женщины пусть в церкви молчат. Им не дозволяется говорить, ведь закон ставит их в подчиненное положение.

Women should be silent during the church meetings. It is not proper for them to speak. They should be submissive, just as the law says.

Если же они хотят что-нибудь узнать, пусть дома расспросят собственных мужей, а говорить в церкви для женщины — позор.

If they have any questions, they should ask their husbands at home, for it is improper for women to speak in church meetings.i

Разве только от вас исходит слово Божие? Или к вам одним оно пришло?

Or do you think God’s word originated with you Corinthians? Are you the only ones to whom it was given?

Если кто считает себя пророком или духовным человеком, пусть признает: что я написал вам, это заповедь Господня.

If you claim to be a prophet or think you are spiritual, you should recognize that what I am saying is a command from the Lord himself.

А если кто об этом не знает, на него самого не стоит обращать внимания.

But if you do not recognize this, you yourself will not be recognized.j

Итак, братья мои, стремитесь пророчествовать, но и не препятствуйте никому говорить на иных языках.

So, my dear brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking in tongues.

Только пусть всё будет благообразно и чинно.

But be sure that everything is done properly and in order.
