So Agrippa said to Paul, “You have permission to speak for yourself.” Then Paul stretched out his hand and made his defense:

Тогда Агриппа сказал Павлу: "Можешь говорить". Павел поднял руку и начал речь в свою защиту.

“I consider myself fortunate that it is before you, King Agrippa, I am going to make my defense today against all the accusations of the Jews,

"Царь Агриппа! За счастье почитаю защищаться перед тобой сегодня против всех обвинений, выдвинутых иудеями,

especially because you are familiar with all the customs and controversies of the Jews. Therefore I beg you to listen to me patiently.

тем более, что ты знаком со всеми обычаями и спорными вопросами иудеев. Поэтому, прошу тебя, выслушай меня терпеливо.

“My manner of life from my youth, spent from the beginning among my own nation and in Jerusalem, is known by all the Jews.

Все иудеи знают, как я жил с молодых лет среди моего народа, а потом в Иерусалиме.

They have known for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that according to the strictest party of our religion I have lived as a Pharisee.

Они знают меня давно и могут засвидетельствовать, если захотят, что я был фарисеем и вёл строжайший образ жизни, соответствующий нашему вероисповеданию.

And now I stand here on trial because of my hope in the promise made by God to our fathers,

Сейчас же стою я перед судом за надежду на обещание, данное Богом нашим предкам,

to which our twelve tribes hope to attain, as they earnestly worship night and day. And for this hope I am accused by Jews, O king!

на исполнение которого надеются наши двенадцать племён, служа Богу день и ночь. Вот в этой надежде, о царь, и обвиняют меня иудеи.

Why is it thought incredible by any of you that God raises the dead?

Почему вам кажется невероятным, что Бог воскрешает из мёртвых?

“I myself was convinced that I ought to do many things in opposing the name of Jesus of Nazareth.

Я тоже считал, что нужно многое сделать против Иисуса Назорея.

And I did so in Jerusalem. I not only locked up many of the saints in prison after receiving authority from the chief priests, but when they were put to death I cast my vote against them.

И я делал всё это в Иерусалиме: бросал в темницы многих верующих, получив на то власть от первосвященников, и одобрял, когда их убивали.

And I punished them often in all the synagogues and tried to make them blaspheme, and in raging fury against them I persecuted them even to foreign cities.

Я наказывал их во всех синагогах, стараясь вынудить отказаться от их веры, и столь велика была моя ярость против них, что я даже в другие города отправился преследовать их.

“In this connection I journeyed to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests.

Для этого однажды я направлялся в Дамаск с полномочиями и поручением от первосвященников.

At midday, O king, I saw on the way a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, that shone around me and those who journeyed with me.

Около полудня, будучи в дороге, увидел я свет с небес, ярче солнца сиявший вокруг меня и моих спутников.

And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew language,a ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’

Все мы упали на землю, и я услышал голос, обращавшийся ко мне на еврейском языке: "Савл, Савл! Почему ты преследуешь Меня? Сопротивляясь Богу, ты вредишь себе".

And I said, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ And the Lord said, ‘I am Jesus whom you are persecuting.

И я сказал: "Кто Ты, Господи?" И Господь ответил: "Я Иисус, Которого ты преследуешь.

But rise and stand upon your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you as a servant and witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you,

Но поднимись, стань на ноги. Я явился тебе, чтобы поставить тебя служителем и свидетелем не только того, что уже увидено тобой, но и того, что Я ещё покажу тебе.

delivering you from your people and from the Gentiles — to whom I am sending you

И Я охраню тебя от твоего народа и отправлю к язычникам, и они также не смогут повредить тебе.

to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’

Ты же откроешь глаза им и обратишь их от тьмы к свету, от власти сатаны к Богу, чтобы смогли они получить отпущение грехов и место среди тех, кто предался Богу благодаря вере в Меня".

“Therefore, O King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,

Поэтому, царь Агриппа, я не ослушался небесного видения

but declared first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout all the region of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds in keeping with their repentance.

и стал проповедовать сначала среди живущих в Дамаске, а также и в Иерусалиме и по всей стране иудейской, а потом и среди язычников, чтобы покаялись они и обратились к Богу, и чтобы делами доказывали покаяние своё.

For this reason the Jews seized me in the temple and tried to kill me.

По этой причине иудеи схватили меня, когда я был в храме, и пытались меня убить.

To this day I have had the help that comes from God, and so I stand here testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses said would come to pass:

Но Бог помог мне, как помогает сегодня, и с Его помощью я стою здесь сегодня, свидетельствуя перед народом ни о чём ином, как о том, что пророки и Моисей говорили о грядущем:

that the Christ must suffer and that, by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light both to our people and to the Gentiles.”

что Христос умрёт и первым восстанет из мёртвых и что Он принесёт свет и иудеям и язычникам".

And as he was saying these things in his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Paul, you are out of your mind; your great learning is driving you out of your mind.”

Павел ещё продолжал говорить в свою защиту, когда Фест громко сказал: "Павел, ты сумасшедший! Большая учёность свела тебя с ума!"

But Paul said, “I am not out of my mind, most excellent Festus, but I am speaking true and rational words.

"Я не сумасшедший, высокочтимый Фест, — отвечал Павел. — То, что я говорю, правдиво и разумно.

For the king knows about these things, and to him I speak boldly. For I am persuaded that none of these things has escaped his notice, for this has not been done in a corner.

Царь Агриппа хорошо знает дела подобного рода, и я могу свободно говорить с ним. И я уверен, что ничто не ускользнуло от его внимания, ибо всё это происходило на виду у всех.

King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know that you believe.”

Царь Агриппа! Веришь ли ты пророкам? Знаю, что веришь".

And Agrippa said to Paul, “In a short time would you persuade me to be a Christian?”b

Тогда Агриппа сказал Павлу: "Ты думаешь, что меня так легко убедить стать христианином?"

And Paul said, “Whether short or long, I would to God that not only you but also all who hear me this day might become such as I am — except for these chains.”

"Неважно, легко ли это или трудно, — ответил Павел, — но я молю Бога, чтобы не только ты, но все, кто слушает меня сегодня, стали такими, как я, только, конечно, не узниками в цепях".

Then the king rose, and the governor and Bernice and those who were sitting with them.

Тогда царь поднялся, а с ним и правитель, и Вереника, и все, кто сидел с ними.

And when they had withdrawn, they said to one another, “This man is doing nothing to deserve death or imprisonment.”

Они вышли и стали говорить друг другу: "Этот человек не сделал ничего, заслуживающего смерти или заключения".

And Agrippa said to Festus, “This man could have been set free if he had not appealed to Caesar.”

Агриппа же сказал Фесту: "Этого человека можно было бы освободить сейчас, если бы не его заявление, что он хочет предстать перед кесарем".
