James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

Иаков, слуга Бога и Господа Иисуса Помазанника, приветствует двенадцать колен диаспоры.

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

Настоящей радостью считайте, братья мои, когда встречаетесь с разными испытаниями,

Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

зная, что испытание вашей веры рождает стойкость.

But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

А стойкость пусть приведет к совершенному результату: чтобы вы были совершенны и безупречны, без малейшего недостатка.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

А если кому-то недостает мудрости, пусть просит её у Бога, Который дает всем просто и не попрекая, — и ему будет дано.

But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

Но пусть просит с верой, нисколько не сомневаясь, потому что сомневающийся похож на морскую волну, которую гонит и швыряет ветер.

For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

И пусть не думает получить что-нибудь у Господа человек,

A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

чья душа расколота надвое, чья поступь нетверда на всех путях.

Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

Пусть хвалится брат униженный тем, что возвышен,

But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

а богатый — тем, что унижен, поскольку он исчезнет, как полевой цветок:

For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

взошло солнце, иссушило своим жаром поле — и цветок поник, и красота его погибла. Так и богатый, погруженный сейчас в свои заботы, обессилеет и не минует конца.

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

Счастлив человек, устоявший перед искушением, ибо пройдя испытание, он получит венец жизни, который Бог обещал любящим Его.

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

В искушении пусть никто не говорит «Меня искушает Бог», — Бог недоступен искушению злом и Сам никого не искушает.

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

Каждый подвергается искушению, влекомый и обольщаемый своим собственным желанием.

Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

И тогда желание, зачав, рождает грех, грех же, возмужав, приносит смерть.

Do not err, my beloved brethren.

Не заблуждайтесь, любимые мои братья!

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Все доброе, что нам дается, и всякий совершенный дар — свыше, они исходят от Творца светил, Которому чуждо изменение или чередование света и тени.

Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

Пожелав, Он породил нас словом истины, чтобы мы были как бы первенцами среди Его творений.

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

Знайте, любимые мои братья, всякий человек должен почаще слушать, пореже говорить, пореже гневаться.

For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

Потому что дела, которые творит гнев человеческий, не могут быть праведными перед Богом.

Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

Поэтому, изгнав из себя всякую нечистоту и бесчисленные пороки, в кротости примите насажденное в вас слово, которое может спасти вас.

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Но станьте исполнителями слова, а не просто слушателями, обманывающими самих себя.

For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

Потому что слушающий слово, но не исполняющий его подобен человеку, который рассматривает свое лицо в зеркале.

For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

Он рассмотрел себя, отошел — и тотчас забыл, каков он.

But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Тот же, кто вглядывается в совершенный закон свободы, не отводя взора, будучи не забывчивым слушателем, но неустанным исполнителем, — тот будет благословен во всем, что ни сделает.

If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

Если кто-либо считает себя благочестивым, не обуздывая при этом свой язык и обманывая собственное сердце, то благочестие его ничего не стоит.

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Чистое и безупречное благочестие перед Богом и Отцом состоит в том, чтобы не забывать сирот и вдов в их бедах и хранить себя от этого мира незапятнанным.
