Доброе имя великих богатств желаннее; добрая слава лучше серебра и золота.

A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

Богач и нищий вот чем сродни: их обоих создал Господь.

The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.

Разумный видит опасность — и укрывается, а простаки идут дальше — и наказываются.

A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

Награда за смирение и страх перед Господом — богатство, и слава, и жизнь.

By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.

На пути развращенных — колючки да западни: дорожащий жизнью к ним и не подойдет.

Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.

Наставь ребенка на верный путь,[89] он и в старости не собьется с него.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Богатые властвуют над бедными, и должник заимодавцу раб.

The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

Сеющий беззаконие пожнет беду, и не станет жезла его гнева.

He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.

Человек щедрый[90] будет благословен, так как пищей делится с бедным.

He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

Прогони глумливого — уйдет и вражда, и утихнут раздоры и ругань.

Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

Кто любит чистоту сердца, чья речь любезна, тому царь будет другом.

He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

Очи Господа охраняют знание, а слова вероломного Он опровергает.

The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.

Лентяй говорит: «На улице лев! Смерть мне, ежели выйду!»

The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

Уста чужой жены[91] — глубокая яма, прогневавший Господа туда упадет.

The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.

Глупость привязана к сердцу ребенка, но прогонит её исправляющая розга.

Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

Притесняющий бедных, чтобы обогатиться, и дающий богатым подарки обнищают.

He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.

Приклони ухо свое и слова мудрецов послушай, сердце к учению моему обрати;

Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

если ты сохранишь их в себе, если все они будут у тебя на устах, то это будет приятно.

For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.

Чтобы ты мог надеяться на Господа, я сегодня учу им тебя, да, тебя.

That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

Разве я не написал для тебя тридцать изречений[92] увещевания и знания,

Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,

чтобы ты научился верным словам истины и смог принести верный ответ посылавшим тебя?

That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

Не обирай бедных лишь потому, что они бедны; не притесняй нуждающихся на суде[93],

Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:

дело их защитит Господь, жизнь отберет у тех, кто их обирает.

For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

Не дружи с гневливым, с раздражительным не общайся,

Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

чтобы не научиться его путям и не попасть в западню.

Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

Не будь одним из тех, кто дает залог и поручается за долги;

Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.

когда не найдешь ты, чем заплатить, даже постель из-под тебя заберут.

If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

Не передвигай древней межи, которую поставили твои предки.[94]

Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.

Видишь искусного в деле своем? Он будет служить царям, простым он служить не будет.

Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
