Прыпавесці Саламона, сына Давідава, цара Ізраэльскага,

These are the proverbs of Solomon, David’s son, king of Israel.

каб спасцігнуць мудрасць і настаўленне, каб зразумець словы мудрасці;

Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise.

каб атрымаць веды ў навучанні: справядлівасць, прыказанне і законнасць;

Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair.

каб простым людзям прыдаць кемлівасці, юнаку — ведаў і развагі.

These proverbs will give insight to the simple, knowledge and discernment to the young.

Мудры слухае і павялічвае веды, а разумны прыдбае ўмеласць:

Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive guidance

зверне ўвагу на прытчу і алегорыю, словы мудрых і іх загадкі.

Шанаванне Госпада ёсць аснова ведаў. Мудрасці і навучання адцураюцца бязглуздыя.

Fear of the LORD is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. A Father’s Exhortation: Acquire Wisdom

Сыне мой, слухай перасцярогі бацькі свайго і не адхіляй запавету маці сваёй,

My child,a listen when your father corrects you. Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction.

бо яны — вянок годнасці на галаве тваёй і каралі на шыі тваёй.

What you learn from them will crown you with grace and be a chain of honor around your neck.

Сыне мой, калі цябе будуць прыцягваць грэшнікі, не прыставай да іх.

My child, if sinners entice you, turn your back on them!

Калі яны скажуць: «Пойдзем з намі! Наладзім засаду дзеля забойства, наставім прыхавана пасткі на бязвіннага;

They may say, “Come and join us. Let’s hide and kill someone! Just for fun, let’s ambush the innocent!

праглынём іх, як пекла: тых, што жывуць, і здаровых, як тых, што сыходзяць у магілу;

Let’s swallow them alive, like the graveb; let’s swallow them whole, like those who go down to the pit of death.

знойдзем усякую каштоўную маёмасць, запоўнім дамы свае здабыткамі;

Think of the great things we’ll get! We’ll fill our houses with all the stuff we take.

далучы долю сваю да нашай, хай будзе адна кішэнь для ўсіх нас»;

Come, throw in your lot with us; we’ll all share the loot.”

сыне мой, не хадзі з імі, утрымай нагу сваю ад іх сцежак.

My child, don’t go along with them! Stay far away from their paths.

Бо ногі іх бягуць да злачынства і спяшаюцца, каб праліць кроў.

They rush to commit evil deeds. They hurry to commit murder.

Дарэмна закідваецца сетка перад вачамі мноства птушак.

If a bird sees a trap being set, it knows to stay away.

Яны наладжваюць засаду дзеля ўласнага забойства і задумваюць злачынствы супраць сваіх душ.

But these people set an ambush for themselves; they are trying to get themselves killed.

Такі шлях у кожнага, хто імкнецца да нарабаванага: захоплівае яно душу таго, хто валодае ім.

Such is the fate of all who are greedy for money; it robs them of life. Wisdom Shouts in the Streets

Мудрасць гукае па плошчах, на вуліцах падымае голас свой,

Wisdom shouts in the streets. She cries out in the public square.

на важнейшым месцы дарог шматлюдных крычыць, каля ўваходу ў гарадскую браму гучаць яе словы:

She calls to the crowds along the main street, to those gathered in front of the city gate:

«Дакуль жа, невукі, будзеце любіць невуцтва, а насмешнікі — жадаць для сябе высмейвання, і недасведчаныя — ненавідзець навукі?

“How long, you simpletons, will you insist on being simpleminded? How long will you mockers relish your mocking? How long will you fools hate knowledge?

Звярніцеся да майго выкрывання: вось, удыхну ў вас дух мой і выкажу вам словы мае.

Come and listen to my counsel. I’ll share my heart with you and make you wise.

Бо вось, я клікала, а вы адмовіліся, працягнула руку сваю, але не было нікога, хто заўважыў бы яе.

“I called you so often, but you wouldn’t come. I reached out to you, but you paid no attention.

Вы пагрэбавалі ўсякаю маёю парадаю і адхілілі мае папрокі.

You ignored my advice and rejected the correction I offered.

Такім чынам, і я буду смяяцца з вашай пагібелі і кпіць буду, калі прыйдзе да вас трывога.

So I will laugh when you are in trouble! I will mock you when disaster overtakes you —

Калі накінецца, як бура, страх, і пагібель узнікне, быццам віхура, калі апануе вас бяда і цесната.

when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster engulfs you like a cyclone, and anguish and distress overwhelm you.

Тады прызываць будуць мяне, а не выслухаю, рупліва шукаць мяне будуць, а не знойдуць мяне.

“When they cry for help, I will not answer. Though they anxiously search for me, they will not find me.

З-за таго, што настаўленне ненавідзелі і не выбралі страх Госпадаў,

For they hated knowledge and chose not to fear the LORD.

не згадзіліся з маёю парадаю і пагрэбавалі ўсім маім выкрываннем.

They rejected my advice and paid no attention when I corrected them.

І вось, хай яны спажываюць плён свайго шляху, насычаюцца сваімі парадамі.

Therefore, they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way, choking on their own schemes.

Адступніцтва невукаў заб’е іх, а нядбаласць бязглуздых загубіць іх.

For simpletons turn away from me — to death. Fools are destroyed by their own complacency.

А той, хто слухае мяне, і прытулак ад страху знойдзе, і спакойны будзе, пазбавіўшыся страху перад ліхімі людзьмі».

But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.”
