My son, forget not my teaching, and let thy heart observe my commandments;

Сын мой! Наставления моего не забывай, и заповеди мои да хранит сердце твое,

for length of days, and years of life, and peace shall they add to thee.

ибо долготы дней, лет жизни и мира они приложат тебе.

Let not loving-kindness and truth forsake thee; bind them about thy neck, write them upon the tablet of thy heart:

Милость и истина да не оставляют тебя; обвяжи ими шею твою, напиши их на скрижалях сердца твоего —

and thou shalt find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

и обретешь милость и благоволение в очах Бога и людей.

Confide in Jehovah with all thy heart, and lean not unto thine own intelligence;

Надейся на Господа всем сердцем твоим и не полагайся на разум твой.

in all thy ways acknowledge him, and he will make plain thy paths.

Во всех путях твоих познавай Его, и Он направит стези твои.

Be not wise in thine own eyes; fear Jehovah, and depart from evil:

Не будь мудрецом в глазах твоих; бойся Господа и удаляйся от зла —

it shall be health for thy navel, and moisture for thy bones.

это будет здравием для тела твоего и питанием для костей твоих.

Honour Jehovah with thy substance, and with the first-fruits of all thine increase;

Чти Господа от имения твоего и от начатков всех прибытков твоих,

so shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy vats shall overflow with new wine.

и наполнятся житницы твои до избытка, и точила твои будут переливаться новым вином.

My son, despise not the instruction of Jehovah, neither be weary of his chastisement;

Наказания Господнего, сын мой, не отвергай и не тяготись обличением Его;

for whom Jehovah loveth he chasteneth, even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

ибо кого любит Господь, того наказывает и благоволит к тому, как отец к сыну своему.

Blessed is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

Блажен человек, который снискал мудрость, и человек, который приобрел разум!

For the gain thereof is better than the gain of silver, and her revenue than fine gold.

Потому что приобретение ее лучше приобретения серебра, и прибыли от нее больше, нежели от золота;

She is more precious than rubies; and all the things thou canst desire are not equal unto her.

она дороже драгоценных камней, и ничто из желаемого тобой не сравнится с нею.

Length of days is in her right hand; in her left hand riches and honour.

Долгоденствие — в правой руке ее, а в левой у нее — богатство и слава;

Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

пути ее — пути приятные, и все стези ее — мирные.

She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her; and happy is he that retaineth her.

Она — древо жизни для тех, которые приобретают ее; и блаженны, которые сохраняют ее!

Jehovah by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens.

Господь премудростью основал землю, небеса утвердил разумом;

By his knowledge the deeps were broken up, and the skies drop down the dew.

Его премудростью разверзлись бездны, и облака кропят росой.

My son, let them not depart from thine eyes; keep sound wisdom and discretion:

Сын мой! Не упускай их из глаз твоих; храни здравомыслие и рассудительность,

so shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace unto thy neck.

и они будут жизнью для души твоей и украшением для шеи твоей.

Then shalt thou walk in thy way securely, and thy foot shall not stumble;

Тогда безопасно пойдешь по пути твоему, и нога твоя не споткнется.

when thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid, but thou shalt lie down and thy sleep shall be sweet.

Когда ляжешь спать, не будешь бояться; и когда уснешь, сон твой приятен будет.

Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the destruction of the wicked, when it cometh;

Не убоишься внезапного страха и пагубы от нечестивых, когда она придет,

for Jehovah shall be thy confidence, and he will keep thy foot from being taken.

потому что Господь будет упованием твоим и сохранит ногу твою от уловления.

Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thy hand to do it.

Не отказывай в благодеянии нуждающемуся, когда рука твоя в силе сделать его.

Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to-morrow I will give, when thou hast it by thee.

Не говори другу твоему: «Пойди и приди опять, и завтра я дам», когда ты имеешь при себе.

Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

Не замышляй против ближнего твоего зла, когда он без опасения живет с тобой.

Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.

Не ссорься с человеком без причины, когда он не сделал зла тебе.

Envy not the man of violence, and choose none of his ways.

Не завидуй человеку, поступающему насильственно, и не избирай ни одного из путей его;

For the perverse is an abomination to Jehovah; but his secret is with the upright.

потому что мерзость пред Господом развратный, а с праведными у Него общение.

The curse of Jehovah is in the house of the wicked; but he blesseth the habitation of the righteous.

Проклятие Господне — на доме нечестивого, а жилище благочестивых Он благословляет.

He indeed scorneth the scorners; but he giveth grace unto the lowly.

Если над кощунниками Он посмеивается, то смиренным дает благодать.

The wise shall inherit glory; but shame shall be the promotion of the foolish.

Мудрые наследуют славу, а глупые — бесславие.
