В это же время Ирод, областной правитель, услышал о славе Иисуса

When Herod Antipas, the ruler of Galilee,a heard about Jesus,

и сказал своим прислужникам: "Должно быть, это Иоанн Креститель. Он воскрес из мёртвых, потому и действуют в нём чудотворные силы".

he said to his advisers, “This must be John the Baptist raised from the dead! That is why he can do such miracles.”

Ибо Ирод взял Иоанна под стражу, заковал в цепи и бросил в темницу из-за Иродиады, жены его брата Филиппа;

For Herod had arrested and imprisoned John as a favor to his wife Herodias (the former wife of Herod’s brother Philip).

потому что Иоанн сказал Ироду: "Ты нарушаешь Пятикнижие, живя с ней как с женой".

John had been telling Herod, “It is against God’s law for you to marry her.”

Ирод хотел казнить Иоанна, но боялся народа, в чьих глазах Иоанн был пророком.

Herod wanted to kill John, but he was afraid of a riot, because all the people believed John was a prophet.

Однако во время празднования дня рождения Ирода, дочь Иродиады танцевала перед собравшимися и доставила Ироду такое удовольствие,

But at a birthday party for Herod, Herodias’s daughter performed a dance that greatly pleased him,

что тот клятвенно обещал дать ей всё, о чём бы она не попросила.

so he promised with a vow to give her anything she wanted.

По подсказке матери она сказала: "Дай мне прямо здесь на блюде голову Иоанна Крестителя".

At her mother’s urging, the girl said, “I want the head of John the Baptist on a tray!”

Царь очень огорчился; но чтобы сдержать клятвы, данные им перед зваными гостями, велел исполнить её желание и

Then the king regretted what he had said; but because of the vow he had made in front of his guests, he issued the necessary orders.

послал слуг в темницу обезглавить Иоанна.

So John was beheaded in the prison,

Голову принесли на блюде и дали девушке, а она отдала её своей матери.

and his head was brought on a tray and given to the girl, who took it to her mother.

Пришли ученики Иоанна, забрали тело и похоронили его; потом пошли и рассказали Иисусу.

Later, John’s disciples came for his body and buried it. Then they went and told Jesus what had happened.

Услышав об этом, Иисус сел в лодку и удалился в пустынное место, чтобы побыть там в одиночестве. Но люди узнали об этом и, покинув свои города, последовали за ним по суше.

As soon as Jesus heard the news, he left in a boat to a remote area to be alone. But the crowds heard where he was headed and followed on foot from many towns.

Поэтому, сойдя на берег, он увидел огромную толпу; и, переполнившись сострадания к ним, исцелил больных.

Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick.

Когда уже вечерело, ученики подошли к нему и сказали: "Это отдалённое место, и уже поздно. Отошли людей, чтобы они пошли и купили себе еды в селениях".

That evening the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away so they can go to the villages and buy food for themselves.”

Но Иисус ответил: "Им не нужно никуда идти. Вы сами дайте им что-нибудь поесть!"

But Jesus said, “That isn’t necessary — you feed them.”

Они ответили: "У нас с собой только пять лепёшек и две рыбы".

“But we have only five loaves of bread and two fish!” they answered.

Он сказал: "Принесите их мне".

“Bring them here,” he said.

Велев народу сесть на траву, он взял эти пять лепёшек и две рыбы и, посмотрев в небеса, произнёс благословение. Затем разломил лепёшки и дал их ученикам, а те раздали людям.

Then he told the people to sit down on the grass. Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, he gave the bread to the disciples, who distributed it to the people.

Все ели вдоволь и набрали двенадцать полных корзин оставшихся кусков.

They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftovers.

Тех, кто ел, было около пяти тысяч мужчин, не считая женщин и детей.

About 5,000 men were fed that day, in addition to all the women and children!

Тотчас он велел своим ученикам сесть в лодку и переправиться на другой берег без него, а сам отпускал народ.

Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home.

Отпустив людей, он поднялся на холм, чтобы помолиться в одиночестве. Настала ночь, и он был там один.

After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.

Но к тому времени, борясь с волнами и встречным ветром, лодка была уже в нескольких километрах от берега.

Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves.

Около четырёх часов утра он подошёл к ним, ступая по поверхности озера!

About three o’clock in the morningb Jesus came toward them, walking on the water.

Когда ученики увидели, что он идёт по озеру, они ужаснулись. "Это призрак!" — сказали они и закричали от страха.

When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!”

Но Иисус тут же заговорил с ними. "Смелее, — сказал он, — это я. Не бойтесь".

But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!c”

Тогда Петр позвал его: "Господь, если это в самом деле ты, скажи, чтобы я пришёл к тебе по воде".

Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.”

"Иди!" — сказал он. И Петр вылез из лодки и пошёл по воде к Иисусу.

“Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus.

Но увидев ветер, испугался, и начав тонуть, закричал: "Господь! Спаси меня!"

But when he saw the strongd wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted.

Иисус тут же протянул руку, схватил его и сказал: "Как мало веры! Почему ты засомневался?"

Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?”

Когда они вошли в лодку, ветер утих.

When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped.

Люди в лодке пали ниц перед ним и воскликнули: "Ты действительно Божий сын!"

Then the disciples worshiped him. “You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed.

Переправившись через озеро, они высадились в Гиносаре.

After they had crossed the lake, they landed at Gennesaret.

Когда жители той местности узнали его, они послали сообщить об этом по всей округе и принесли к нему всех больных.

When the people recognized Jesus, the news of his arrival spread quickly throughout the whole area, and soon people were bringing all their sick to be healed.

Они умоляли его, чтобы он позволил больным лишь коснуться ритуальной кисти на его одежде, и каждый, кто прикасался, полностью исцелился.

They begged him to let the sick touch at least the fringe of his robe, and all who touched him were healed.
