Затем Иисус обратился к народу и к своим ученикам.

Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,

"Книжники и фарисеи, — сказал он, — сидят на троне Моисея.

Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:

Поэтому старайтесь соблюдать всё, что они говорят вам. Но не поступайте так, как они, потому что они говорят, но не делают!

All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

Они возлагают на плечи людей тяжёлые ноши, а сами пальцем не пошевелят, чтобы помочь их нести.

For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.

Всё, что они делают, делается напоказ людям: они надевают широкие филактерии и удлиняют ритуальные кисти,

But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

любят почётные места на праздничных обедах и лучшие места в синагогах,

And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,

им нравится, когда их почтительно приветствуют на рыночных площадях и называют 'Раби'.

And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

Но вы не позволяйте называть себя 'раби'; потому что у вас один раби, а вы все братья друг другу.

But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.

И не называйте никого на земле 'отец', потому что у вас один Отец, и он на небесах.

And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

Также не позволяйте называть себя 'начальниками', потому что у вас один начальник — Мессия!

Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.

Самый великий из вас должен быть всем слугой,

But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

потому что тот, кто возвышает себя, будет смирён, а тот, кто смиряет себя, будет возвышен.

And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

Но горе вам, лицемерные книжники и фарисеи! Потому что вы затворяете Царство Небес перед людьми, сами не входите и не позволяете войти тем, кто желает.

But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

Горе вам, лицемерные книжники и фарисеи! Вы обходите землю и море, чтобы обратить в прозелиты хотя бы одного человека; а когда вам это удаётся, делаете его вдвойне заслуживающим геенны!

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

Горе вам, слепые вожди! Вы говорите: 'Если кто-либо поклянётся Храмом, он не связан клятвой; но если поклянётся золотом Храма, то связан'.

Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!

Слепые глупцы! Что важнее, золото или Храм, освящающий золото?

Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?

Также говорите: 'Если кто-то клянётся жертвенником, он не связан клятвой; но если поклянётся приношением на этом жертвеннике, то связан'.

And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.

Слепцы! Что важнее? жертва? или жертвенник, который освящает жертву?

Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?

Поэтому клянущийся жертвенником, клянётся им и всем, что находится на нём.

Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.

А клянущийся Храмом, клянётся им и Живущим в нём.

And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.

Клянущийся небесами, клянётся престолом Бога и Сидящим на нём.

And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.

Горе вам, лицемерные книжники и фарисеи! Вы платите десятину с мяты, укропа и тмина; но оставили без внимания важнейшие вопросы Пятикнижия: правосудие, милосердие, веру. Этому вам следовало уделять внимание, не забывая остального!

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Слепые вожди! — отцеживаете комара, проглатывая тем временем верблюда!

Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

Горе вам, лицемерные книжники и фарисеи! Вы очищаете внешнюю поверхность чаши и блюда, но внутри они полны грабежа и корыстолюбия.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

Слепой фарисей! Сначала вычисти внутреннюю поверхность чаши, чтобы и снаружи тоже было чисто.

Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

Горе вам, лицемерные книжники и фарисеи! Вы похожи на побелённые гробницы, которые хорошо выглядят снаружи, а внутри полны костей и всякой гнили.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.

Подобно этому и вы снаружи кажетесь людям добрыми и честными, а внутри вы полны лицемерия и далеки от Пятикнижия.

Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

Горе вам, лицемерные книжники и фарисеи! Вы строите гробницы пророкам и украшаете могилы праведников,

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,

и говорите: 'Если бы мы жили во времена наших отцов, то не принимали бы участия в убийствах пророков'.

And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.

Тем самым вы свидетельствуете против себя, что вы достойные потомки тех, кто убивали пророков.

Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.

Давайте же, доводите до конца то, что начали ваши отцы!

Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.

Змеи! Порождения змей! Как вам удастся избежать осуждения в геенне?

Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

Потому я посылаю к вам пророков, мудрецов и книжников — одних вы убьёте, да, да, казните их на стойках, словно преступников; других будете бить в синагогах и преследовать из города в город.

Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:

И потому вам вменится вина за всю пролитую на земле кровь, от крови невинного Авеля до крови Захарии, сына Варахиина, убитого вами между Храмом и жертвенником.

That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

Да! Говорю вам, что вина за всё это падёт на это поколение!

Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

Иерусалим! Иерусалим! Ты убиваешь пророков! Побиваешь камнями тех, кого я посылаю тебе! Сколько раз я хотел собрать твоих детей, подобно тому, как наседка собирает цыплят под своими крыльями, но вы отказались!

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

Смотрите же! Бог покидает дом ваш, оставляя его пустым".

Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

Ибо я говорю вам, с этого времени вы меня больше не увидите, пока не скажете: "Благословен приходящий во имя Господа"

For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
