Тогда Иисус сказал толпе народа и ученикам Своим:

Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,

на Моисеевом седалище сели книжники и фарисеи;

Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:

итак всё, что они скажут вам, исполняйте и храните, по делам же их не поступайте: ибо говорят они и не делают.

All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

Связывают они ноши тяжелые и неудобоносимые и возлагают на плечи людей, сами же и пальцем своим не хотят двинуть их.

For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.

Все же дела свои совершают с тем, чтобы видели их люди; расширяют хранилища свои и увеличивают кисти;

But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

любят же первое место на званых обедах и первые сиденья в синагогах

And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,

и приветствия на площадях, и чтобы звали их люди: «равви!»

And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

Вас же пусть не называют равви, ибо один у вас Учитель, вы же все — братья.

But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.

И отцом своим не называйте никого на земле, ибо один у вас Отец — Небесный.

And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

И пусть не называют вас наставниками, потому что Наставник у вас один: Христос.

Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.

Больший из вас да будет вам слугою.

But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

Ибо, кто вознесет себя, тот смирён будет, а кто смирит себя, тот вознесён будет.

And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

Горе вам, книжники и фарисеи, лицемеры, что затворяете Царство Небесное перед людьми: вы и сами не входите и входящим не даете войти.

But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

Стих 14 прежних русских переводов, встречающийся в Мк 12:40 и Лк 20:47, отсутствует во всех древнейших рукописях Мф.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

Горе вам, книжники и фарисеи, лицемеры, что обходите море и сушу, чтобы сделать хотя бы одного прозелитом; и когда это случится, делаете его сыном геенны вдвое худшим, чем вы.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

Горе вам, вожди слепые, говорящие: «кто поклянется храмом — ничего, кто же поклянется золотом храма — связан».

Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!

Безумные и слепые, что же больше: золото, или храм, освятивший золото?

Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?

И: «кто поклянется жертвенником — ничего, кто же поклянется даром, который на нем — связан».

And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.

Слепые! Что же больше: дар, или жертвенник, освящающий дар?

Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?

Итак, поклявшийся жертвенником клянется им и всем, что на нем;

Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.

и поклявшийся храмом клянется им и Живущим в нем;

And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.

и поклявшийся небом клянется престолом Божиим и Сидящим на нем.

And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.

Горе вам, книжники и фарисеи, лицемеры, что даете десятину с мяты, аниса и тмина, и обошли более важное в Законе: правосудие и милосердие и верность; это надлежало исполнить и того не опустить.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Вожди слепые, оцеживающие комара и проглатывающие верблюда!

Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

Горе вам, книжники и фарисеи, лицемеры, что очищаете снаружи чашу и блюдо, внутри же они полны хищения и невоздержания.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

Фарисей слепой! Очисти прежде чашу и блюдо внутри, чтобы и снаружи они стали чисты.

Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

Горе вам, книжники и фарисеи, лицемеры, что вы подобны гробницам побеленным, которые снаружи кажутся красивыми, внутри же полны костей мертвых и всякой нечистоты.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.

Так и вы снаружи кажетесь людям праведными, внутри же наполнены лицемерием и беззаконием.

Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

Горе вам, книжники и фарисеи, лицемеры, что строите гробницы пророков и украшаете памятники праведных

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,

и говорите: «если бы мы жили во дни отцов наших, мы не были бы сообщниками их в крови пророков».

And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.

Тем самым вы свидетельствуете против себя, что вы сыновья тех, которые убили пророков.

Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.

Доведите же до полноты меру отцов ваших,

Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.

Змеи, отродье змеиное! Как бежать вам от осуждения в геенну?

Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

Поэтому, вот, Я посылаю к вам пророков и мудрых и книжников; иных вы убьете и распнете, иных будете бичевать в синагогах ваших и гнать из города в город;

Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:

да придёт на вас вся кровь праведная, проливаемая на земле, от крови Авеля праведного до крови Захарии, сына Варахии, которого вы убили между храмом и жертвенником.

That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

Истинно говорю вам: это всё придет на род этот.

Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

Иерусалим, Иерусалим, убивающий пророков и камнями побивающий посланных к нему! Сколько раз хотел Я собрать детей твоих, как птица собирает птенцов под крылья, и вы не захотели!

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

Вот, оставляется вам дом ваш пуст.

Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

Ибо говорю вам: не увидите Меня отныне, доколе не скажете: «Благословен Грядущий во имя Господне.»

For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
