Соборное послание святого апостола Иакова

Иаков, раб Бога и Господа Иисуса Христа, двенадцати израильским племенам, рассеянным по земле, желает радости!

James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

Когда постигают вас разнообразные искушения, братья мои, принимайте это как великую радость.

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

Знайте: опытность в вере порождает стойкость,

Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

а стойкость способствует зрелости — чтобы вы были зрелыми и цельными, чтобы ни в чем не нуждались.

But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

А если кому из вас не хватает мудрости, пусть попросит у Бога, и получит — ведь Бог дает просто, не упрекая.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Пусть только просит с верой и ничуть не сомневается — кто сомневается, похож на морскую волну, которую из стороны в сторону гонит ветер.

But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

Пусть не думает что-то получить от Господа такой человек —

For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

душа его раздвоена, на всех своих путях он неустойчив.

A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Кто из братьев в унижении — пусть хвалится высотой своего положения,

Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

а кто богат — своим унижением, ведь все это исчезнет, как цветок полевой.

But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

Взошло солнце, и от жара засохла трава — вот и облетел весь ее цвет, погиб прекрасный облик. Так и богача на его пути ждет увядание.

For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

Блажен, кто выдерживает искушение: за свою стойкость он получит венец жизни — так обещал Бог наградить тех, кто Его любит.

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

В искушении пусть никто не говорит: «Это Бог меня искушает». Бог неискушен во зле и Сам никого не искушает.

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

Нет, это собственные прихоти сбивают человека с пути и увлекают в ловушку — вот что такое искушение.

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

От прихоти зарождается и появляется на свет грех, и когда он совершается, то приводит к смерти.

Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Не заблуждайтесь, возлюбленные мои братья.

Do not err, my beloved brethren.

Что дается вам доброго, что дарится вам совершенного, то приходит свыше, от Отца, порождающего всякий свет, и Он не переменится, не затмится Его сияние.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

По Собственной воле Он породил нас словом истины, чтобы среди Его творений мы были первенцами.

Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

Вот что, братья мои возлюбленные: пусть каждый человек торопится слушать и не спешит говорить, не спешит гневаться,

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

ведь гнев человеческий не творит правды Божьей.

For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

Так что избавьтесь от всякой грязи, от жгучей злобы и кротко примите то Слово, которое прорастает в вас и способно спасти ваши души.

Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

И слово это исполняйте, а не только выслушивайте — иначе обманете лишь самих себя.

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Ведь выслушивать слово, но не исполнять — все равно что глядеть на собственное отражение в зеркале:

For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

человек узнал, каков он сам, но отошел и тотчас забыл об этом.

For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

Но кто прилежно всматривается в совершенный закон (а это закон свободы) — тот не просто забывчивый слушатель, он исполняет всё на деле. И будет блажен, кто так поступит!

But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Кто считает себя благочестивым, но не обуздал собственный язык, тот обманывает сам себя, его благочестие ничего не стоит.

If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

Вот какое благочестие будет чистым и безупречным перед Богом и Отцом: помогать вдовам и сиротам в их скорбях и хранить себя от скверны этого мира.

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
