Первосвященник спросил: "Справедливы ли эти обвинения?"

Then the high priest asked Stephen, “Are these accusations true?”

и Стефан сказал: "Братья и отцы, выслушайте меня! Бог славы явился нашему отцу Аврааму в Месопотамии, до того, как тот переселился в Харран,

This was Stephen’s reply: “Brothers and fathers, listen to me. Our glorious God appeared to our ancestor Abraham in Mesopotamia before he settled in Haran.a

и сказал ему: 'Оставь свою землю и свою семью и иди в землю, которую Я укажу тебе'.

God told him, ‘Leave your native land and your relatives, and come into the land that I will show you.’b

Итак, он покинул землю Халдеев и стал жить в Харране. После того, как умер его отец, Бог велел ему переселиться в землю, в которой вы сейчас живёте.

So Abraham left the land of the Chaldeans and lived in Haran until his father died. Then God brought him here to the land where you now live.

Он не дал ему в ней наследства даже на стопу; но всё же обещал отдать её во владение ему и его потомкам после него, хотя в то время у него ещё не было детей.

“But God gave him no inheritance here, not even one square foot of land. God did promise, however, that eventually the whole land would belong to Abraham and his descendants — even though he had no children yet.

Вот что Бог сказал ему: 'Твои потомки будут переселенцами в чужой стране, где они будут находиться в рабстве и угнетении четыреста лет.

God also told him that his descendants would live in a foreign land, where they would be oppressed as slaves for 400 years.

Но Я буду судить народ, который их поработит, — сказал Бог, — и после этого они выйдут оттуда и будут поклоняться Мне на этом месте'.

‘But I will punish the nation that enslaves them,’ God said, ‘and in the end they will come out and worship me here in this place.’c

И Он дал ему заповедь об обрезании. Итак, он стал отцом Исаака и совершил тому обрезание на восьмой день, а Исаак стал отцом Иакова, Иаков стал отцом Двенадцати Патриархов.

“God also gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision at that time. So when Abraham became the father of Isaac, he circumcised him on the eighth day. And the practice was continued when Isaac became the father of Jacob, and when Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs of the Israelite nation.

Патриархи же стали завидовать Иосифу и продали его в рабство в Египет. Однако Господь был с ним;

“These patriarchs were jealous of their brother Joseph, and they sold him to be a slave in Egypt. But God was with him

Он избавил его от всех несчастий и дал ему мудрость и расположение фараона, египетского царя, который назначил его главным управляющим Египтом и всем своим домашним хозяйством.

and rescued him from all his troubles. And God gave him favor before Pharaoh, king of Egypt. God also gave Joseph unusual wisdom, so that Pharaoh appointed him governor over all of Egypt and put him in charge of the palace.

И настал голод, повлёкший за собой множество страданий во всём Египте и в Ханаане.

“But a famine came upon Egypt and Canaan. There was great misery, and our ancestors ran out of food.

Когда же Иаков услышал о том, что в Египте есть хлеб, он в первый раз послал туда наших отцов.

Jacob heard that there was still grain in Egypt, so he sent his sons — our ancestors — to buy some.

Когда те были там во второй раз, Иосиф открылся своим братьям, и семья Иосифа стала известна фараону.

The second time they went, Joseph revealed his identity to his brothers,d and they were introduced to Pharaoh.

Иосиф затем послал за своим отцом Иаковом и за всеми своими родными, которых было семьдесят пять человек.

Then Joseph sent for his father, Jacob, and all his relatives to come to Egypt, seventy-five persons in all.

Иаков приехал в Египет и там умер, как и другие наши предки.

So Jacob went to Egypt. He died there, as did our ancestors.

Тела их были перенесены в Сихем и захоронены в гробнице, которую Авраам купил у семьи Еммора из Сихема за некую сумму.

Their bodies were taken to Shechem and buried in the tomb Abraham had bought for a certain price from Hamor’s sons in Shechem.

По мере того, как приближался срок исполнения обещания, данного Богом Аврааму, наш народ в Египте стремительно возрастал в количестве,

“As the time drew near when God would fulfill his promise to Abraham, the number of our people in Egypt greatly increased.

до тех пор, пока в Египте не появился новый царь, не знавший об Иосифе.

But then a new king came to the throne of Egypt who knew nothing about Joseph.

С жестокостью и коварством этот человек принуждал наших отцов бросать на улице своих детей, чтобы никто из них не остался в живых.

This king exploited our people and oppressed them, forcing parents to abandon their newborn babies so they would die.

Именно тогда и родился Моисей, и был прекрасен в глазах Бога. Три месяца он рос в доме своего отца;

“At that time Moses was born — a beautiful child in God’s eyes. His parents cared for him at home for three months.

и когда он был оставлен, дочь фараона взяла его и воспитала как собственного сына.

When they had to abandon him, Pharaoh’s daughter adopted him and raised him as her own son.

Итак, Моисей научился всей мудрости египтян и стал хорошим оратором и деятельным человеком.

Moses was taught all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and he was powerful in both speech and action.

Когда же ему исполнилось сорок лет, он решил навестить своих собратьев-израильтян.

“One day when Moses was forty years old, he decided to visit his relatives, the people of Israel.

Увидев, как с одним из них жестоко обращаются, он вступился и отомстил за него, сразив египтянина.

He saw an Egyptian mistreating an Israelite. So Moses came to the man’s defense and avenged him, killing the Egyptian.

Он полагал, его братья поймут, что его рукой Бог спасает их, но они этого не поняли.

Moses assumed his fellow Israelites would realize that God had sent him to rescue them, but they didn’t.

На следующий день он появился там во время ссоры и хотел помирить ссорящихся, говоря: 'Вы же братья! Зачем вы замышляете причинить вред друг другу?'

“The next day he visited them again and saw two men of Israel fighting. He tried to be a peacemaker. ‘Men,’ he said, ‘you are brothers. Why are you fighting each other?’

Тогда тот, кто обижал своего товарища, оттолкнул Моисея и сказал: 'Кто назначил тебя нашим начальником и судьёй?

“But the man in the wrong pushed Moses aside. ‘Who made you a ruler and judge over us?’ he asked.

Ты хочешь убить меня так же, как вчера убил египтянина?'

‘Are you going to kill me as you killed that Egyptian yesterday?’

Услышав это, Моисей бежал из страны и стал изгнанником в земле Мадиам, где у него родилось два сына.

When Moses heard that, he fled the country and lived as a foreigner in the land of Midian. There his two sons were born.

Ещё через сорок лет ангел явился ему в пустыне возле горы Синай в пламени горящего тернового куста.

“Forty years later, in the desert near Mount Sinai, an angel appeared to Moses in the flame of a burning bush.

Увидев это, Моисей поразился зрелищу; а когда он подошёл ближе, чтобы рассмотреть повнимательнее, раздался голос Господа:

When Moses saw it, he was amazed at the sight. As he went to take a closer look, the voice of the LORD called out to him,

'Я Бог твоих отцов, Бог Авраама, Исаака и Иакова'. Моисей задрожал от страха и не осмеливался взглянуть.

‘I am the God of your ancestors — the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.’ Moses shook with terror and did not dare to look.

Господь сказал ему: 'Сними свои сандалии, так как место, на котором ты стоишь, — святая земля.

“Then the LORD said to him, ‘Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground.

Я увидел, как притесняют Мой народ в Египте, услышал их плач и спустился, чтобы спасти их; и теперь Я пошлю тебя в Египет'.

I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their groans and have come down to rescue them. Now go, for I am sending you back to Egypt.’e

Тот самый Моисей, которого они отвергли, говоря: "Кто назначил тебя нашим начальником и судьёй?", — и есть тот, кого Бог послал как правителя и как искупителя, с помощью ангела, явившегося ему в горящем кусте терновника.

“So God sent back the same man his people had previously rejected when they demanded, ‘Who made you a ruler and judge over us?’ Through the angel who appeared to him in the burning bush, God sent Moses to be their ruler and savior.

Этот человек вывел их оттуда, совершая чудеса и знамения в Египте, возле Красного моря и в течение сорока лет в пустыне.

And by means of many wonders and miraculous signs, he led them out of Egypt, through the Red Sea, and through the wilderness for forty years.

Это тот самый Моисей, который сказал народу Израиля: 'Бог выдвинет пророка, подобного мне, из среды ваших братьев'.

“Moses himself told the people of Israel, ‘God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from among your own people.’f

Это тот человек, который был в собрании в пустыне, вместе с ангелом, говорившим с ним на горе Синай, и с нашими отцами, и ему были даны слова жизни, которые он должен был передать нам.

Moses was with our ancestors, the assembly of God’s people in the wilderness, when the angel spoke to him at Mount Sinai. And there Moses received life-giving words to pass on to us.g

Однако отцы наши не хотели ему повиноваться. Напротив, они отвергли его и в душе устремились к Египту,

“But our ancestors refused to listen to Moses. They rejected him and wanted to return to Egypt.

говоря Аарону: "Сделай нам каких-нибудь богов, чтобы они вели нас, поскольку мы не знаем, что произошло с тем Моисеем, который вывел нас из Египта".

They told Aaron, ‘Make us some gods who can lead us, for we don’t know what has become of this Moses, who brought us out of Egypt.’

Именно тогда они и сделали идола в виде телёнка, приносили ему жертвы и веселились, празднуя то, что они сделали своими руками.

So they made an idol shaped like a calf, and they sacrificed to it and celebrated over this thing they had made.

Тогда Бог отвернулся от них и оставил их поклоняться звёздам — как написано в книге пророков: 'Народ Израиля, не мне вы приносили заколотых животных и жертвы в течение сорока лет в пустыне!

Then God turned away from them and abandoned them to serve the stars of heaven as their gods! In the book of the prophets it is written, ‘Was it to me you were bringing sacrifices and offerings during those forty years in the wilderness, Israel?

Нет, вы несли шатёр Молоха и звезду вашего бога Ремфана, идолов, которых вы сделали, чтобы поклоняться им. Поэтому Я изгоню вас За пределы Вавилона'.

No, you carried your pagan gods — the shrine of Molech, the star of your god Rephan, and the images you made to worship them. So I will send you into exile as far away as Babylon.’h

У наших отцов в пустыне был Шатёр Свидетельства. Его сделали точно таким, как велел Бог, говоривший с Моисеем, в соответствии с образцом, виденным Моисеем.

“Our ancestors carried the Tabernaclei with them through the wilderness. It was constructed according to the plan God had shown to Moses.

Впоследствии наши отцы вместе с Иисусом Навином, получившие его, принесли его в Землю, отнятую у народов, которых Бог изгнал от них. Так было до дней Давида.

Years later, when Joshua led our ancestors in battle against the nations that God drove out of this land, the Tabernacle was taken with them into their new territory. And it stayed there until the time of King David.

Он снискал расположение у Бога и спросил, не построить ли ему жилище для Бога Иакова;

“David found favor with God and asked for the privilege of building a permanent Temple for the God of Jacob.j

и Соломон действительно построил Ему дом.

But it was Solomon who actually built it.

Однако Всевышний живёт не в рукотворных жилищах! Как говорит пророк:

However, the Most High doesn’t live in temples made by human hands. As the prophet says,

"Небеса — престол Мой, — говорит Господь, — а земля — подставка для моих ног. Какой же дом вы можете построить Мне? Какое место вы можете придумать для Моего покоя?

‘Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Could you build me a temple as good as that?’ asks the LORD. ‘Could you build me such a resting place?

Разве не Я сам создал всё это?"

Didn’t my hands make both heaven and earth?’k

Жестоковыйные люди, с необрезанными сердцами и ушами! Вы постоянно противитесь Святому Духу! Вы делаете то же самое, что и ваши отцы!

“You stubborn people! You are heathenl at heart and deaf to the truth. Must you forever resist the Holy Spirit? That’s what your ancestors did, and so do you!

Кого из пророков не преследовали ваши отцы? Они убивали тех, кто предсказывал им о приходе Цадика, а теперь вы стали его предателями и убийцами!

Name one prophet your ancestors didn’t persecute! They even killed the ones who predicted the coming of the Righteous One — the Messiah whom you betrayed and murdered.

Вы, признающие, что Пятикнижие было принесено ангелами, но не соблюдающие его!"

You deliberately disobeyed God’s law, even though you received it from the hands of angels.”

Всё то, что они слышали, ранило их в самое сердце, и они скрежетали на него зубами.

The Jewish leaders were infuriated by Stephen’s accusation, and they shook their fists at him in rage.m

Но он, исполненный Святого Духа, взглянул в небеса и увидел славу Бога.

But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed steadily into heaven and saw the glory of God, and he saw Jesus standing in the place of honor at God’s right hand.

"Посмотрите, — воскликнул он, — я вижу открытые небеса и Сына Человеческого, стоящего по правую руку от Бога! "

And he told them, “Look, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing in the place of honor at God’s right hand!”

При этих словах они начали громко кричать, чтобы не слышать его; и все как один бросились на него,

Then they put their hands over their ears and began shouting. They rushed at him

вывели его за пределы города и стали бросать в него камни. А свидетели положили свою верхнюю одежду к ногам юноши по имени Савл.

and dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. His accusers took off their coats and laid them at the feet of a young man named Saul.n

Когда они забрасывали его камнями, Стефан воскликнул Богу: "Господь Иисус, прими мой дух!"

As they stoned him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”

Затем он встал на колени и закричал: "Господь, не вмени им это в грех!" С этими словами он умер;

He fell to his knees, shouting, “Lord, don’t charge them with this sin!” And with that, he died.
