Прихоти ищет своенравный, восстаёт против всего умного.

Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment.

Глупый не любит знания, а только бы выказать свой ум.

A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.

С приходом нечестивого приходит и презрение, а с бесславием — поношение.

When wickedness comes, contempt comes also, and with dishonor comes disgrace.

Слова уст человеческих — глубокие воды; источник мудрости — струящийся поток.

The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters; the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook.

Нехорошо быть лицеприятным к нечестивому, чтобы ниспровергнуть праведного на суде.

It is not good to be partial toa the wicked or to deprive the righteous of justice.

Уста глупого идут в ссору, и слова его вызывают побои.

A fool’s lips walk into a fight, and his mouth invites a beating.

Язык глупого — гибель для него, и уста его — сеть для души его.

A fool’s mouth is his ruin, and his lips are a snare to his soul.

Слова наушника — как лакомства, и они входят во внутренность чрева.

The words of a whisperer are like delicious morsels; they go down into the inner parts of the body.

Нерадивый в работе своей — брат расточителю.

Whoever is slack in his work is a brother to him who destroys.

Имя Господа — крепкая башня: убегает в неё праведник — и безопасен.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.

Имение богатого — крепкий город его, и как высокая ограда в его воображении.

A rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall in his imagination.

Перед падением возносится сердце человека, а смирение предшествует славе.

Before destruction a man’s heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.

Кто даёт ответ, не выслушав, тот глуп, и стыд ему.

If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame.

Дух человека переносит его немощи; а поражённый дух — кто может подкрепить его?

A man’s spirit will endure sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear?

Сердце разумного приобретает знание, и ухо мудрых ищет знания.

An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

Подарок у человека даёт ему простор и до вельмож доведёт его.

A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before the great.

Первый в тяжбе своей прав, но приходит соперник его и исследует его.

The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.

Жребий прекращает споры и решает между сильными.

The lot puts an end to quarrels and decides between powerful contenders.

Озлобившийся брат неприступнее крепкого города, и ссоры подобны запорам замка.

A brother offended is more unyielding than a strong city, and quarreling is like the bars of a castle.

От плода уст человека наполняется чрево его; произведением уст своих он насыщается.

From the fruit of a man’s mouth his stomach is satisfied; he is satisfied by the yield of his lips.

Смерть и жизнь — во власти языка, и любящие его вкусят от плодов его.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

Кто нашёл добрую жену, тот нашёл благо и получил благодать от Господа.

He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.

С мольбою говорит нищий, а богатый отвечает грубо.

The poor use entreaties, but the rich answer roughly.

Кто хочет иметь друзей, тот и сам должен быть дружелюбным; и бывает друг более привязанный, нежели брат.

A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
