They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes.a

Переправившись на другой берег моря, они оказались в земле герасинской.1

When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an impure spirit came from the tombs to meet him.

Как только Иисус ступил из лодки на берег, навстречу Ему из могильных пещер вышел одержимый нечистым духом человек —

This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain.

он жил в этих пещерах. Никто не мог удержать его, и даже цепи не помогали.

For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him.

И хотя не раз он был скован по рукам и ногам, разрывал он цепи и разбивал оковы, так что одолеть его никому не удавалось.

Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.

Всегда, днем и ночью, то в склепах, то на горах, он кричал и бился о камни.

When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him.

Издали увидев Иисуса, он подбежал к Нему, пал ниц пред Ним

He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name don’t torture me!”

и громко закричал: «Ну что Тебе нужно от меня, Иисус, Сын Бога Всевышнего? Заклинаю Тебя Богом: не мучь меня!»

For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!”

Так он говорил потому, что Иисус сразу же сказал ему: «Выйди, нечистый дух, из этого человека!»

Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” “My name is Legion,” he replied, “for we are many.”

И потом спросил его: «Как имя твое?» А тот ответил Иисусу: «Имя мое — легион,2 ибо нас много!»

And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.

И стал умолять Иисуса не изгонять их из этой земли.

A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside.

А там, под горой, паслось большое стадо свиней.

The demons begged Jesus, “Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.”

И нечистые духи стали просить Его: «Пошли нас в свиней и дай нам войти в них!»

He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.

Он позволил им. Бесы, выйдя из одержимого, вошли в свиней, и стадо — около двух тысяч свиней — ринулось с кручи в море и утонуло в нем.

Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened.

А свинопасы поспешили сообщить об этом в городе и окрестностях. И жители тех мест пришли посмотреть, что случилось.

When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.

Подошли они к Иисусу и увидели, что одержимый, в котором был легион бесов, сидит одетый и в здравом уме, и испугались.

Those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the demon-possessed man — and told about the pigs as well.

Когда очевидцы рассказали им о том, что случилось с тем, кто был одержим, и со стадом свиней,

Then the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region.

то люди стали просить Иисуса уйти из их мест.

As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him.

Когда Иисус садился в лодку, человек, который был до этого одержим духом нечистым, попросил Иисуса: «Позволь мне быть с Тобой!»

Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”

Но Он не позволил ему, сказав: «Иди к себе домой, расскажи своим близким, что Господь сделал для тебя и как Он помиловал тебя!»

So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolisb how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.

И тот пошел и стал рассказывать в области, называемой Десятиградием, о том, что сделал для него Иисус. И все дивились этому.

When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake.

Как только Иисус снова переправился [лодкой] на другой берег, большая толпа собралась вокруг Него. Когда Он был еще у моря,

Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet.

пришел туда один из старейшин синагоги по имени Иаир и, увидев Иисуса, пал к ногам Его,

He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.”

и стал умолять: «Доченька моя при смерти, приди же, возложи руки на нее, чтобы выздоровела3 она и осталась в живых!»

So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him.

Иисус отправился с ним. За ними пошла большая толпа, теснившая Иисуса со всех сторон.

And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years.

Среди толпы была одна женщина, двенадцать лет страдавшая кровотечением.

She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse.

Она много натерпелась от разных врачей, потратив на лечение всё, что было у нее, но никакой пользы не получила, и даже стало ей еще хуже.

When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak,

Прослышав об Иисусе, она подошла к Нему сзади в толпе и коснулась одежды Его,

because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.”

потому что подумала: «Исцелена4 буду, если хоть к одежде Его прикоснусь».

Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.

Тут же кровотечение остановилось, и она ощутила, что здоровье вернулось к ней.

At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”

Иисус, тотчас почувствовав, что из Него вышла сила, повернулся к толпе и спросил: «Кто прикоснулся к Моей одежде?»

“You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ”

Ученики Его сказали Ему: «Ты видишь, как теснит Тебя толпа, а еще спрашиваешь: „Кто ко Мне прикоснулся?“»

But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it.

Но Иисус взглядом искал ту, которая сделала это.

Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth.

В страхе и трепете женщина, зная, что произошло с нею, подошла к Нему, пала ниц перед Ним и рассказала Ему всю правду.

He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”

Он же изрек: «Дочь Моя, вера твоя спасла5 тебя. Ступай с миром и будь свободна6 от страданья твоего!»

While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”

Когда Он еще говорил это, пришли люди из дома старейшины синагоги и сказали Иаиру: «Дочь твоя умерла. Зачем утруждать Учителя?»

Overhearingc what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

Но Иисус, услышав эти слова, сказал старейшине: «Не бойся, только верь!»

He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James.

И не позволил никому, кроме Петра, Иакова и Иоанна, брата Иакова, идти вместе с Ним.

When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly.

Когда подошли они к дому старейшины, Иисус увидел, что там смятение, плачут там и громко причитают.

He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.”

«К чему этот шум, что вы плачете? — сказал Он им, входя. — Ребенок не умер — только спит».

But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was.

Над Ним стали смеяться. Тогда Он, отослав всех, взял отца и мать ребенка и Своих учеников и вошел в комнату, где лежала девочка.

He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”).

Взяв ее за руку, Он сказал: «Талита кум!», что в переводе значит: «Девочка, говорю тебе, встань!»

Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished.

Она тотчас встала и пошла (было ей лет двенадцать). Изумление великое [сразу же] охватило всех,

He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.

но Иисус строго наказал: «Пусть никто не знает об этом», — а девочку велел покормить.
