Однажды, после того как Иисус закончил молитву, один из учеников попросил Его: — Господин наш, обучи нас молитве, как обучил своих учеников Иоанн.

Once Jesus was in a certain place praying. As he finished, one of his disciples came to him and said, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”

Он сказал: — Когда молитесь, говорите: Отец! Да будет свято имя Твое, да настанет Царство Твое.

Jesus said, “This is how you should pray:a “Father, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon.

Дай нам хлеб на каждый день.

Give us each day the food we need,b

И прости нас, как и мы прощаем других. И не испытывай нас.

and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation.c”

Затем Он сказал: — Допустим, у тебя есть друг. И вот, придя к нему ночью, ты говоришь: «Друг, одолжи мне три хлеба.

Then, teaching them more about prayer, he used this story: “Suppose you went to a friend’s house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You say to him,

Ко мне издалека приехал знакомый, и мне нечем его угостить».

‘A friend of mine has just arrived for a visit, and I have nothing for him to eat.’

А тот, не выходя из дому, отвечает: «Оставь меня в покое. Дверь уже заперта, дети со мной в постели. Не могу я сейчас ничего тебе дать».

And suppose he calls out from his bedroom, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and I are all in bed. I can’t help you.’

Но, говорю вам, даже если он не хочет ради дружбы встать и вынести хлеба, все же, уступая настойчивым просьбам, он даст просителю сколько нужно.

But I tell you this — though he won’t do it for friendship’s sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence.d

Поэтому говорю вам: просите — и вам будет дано, ищите — и вы найдете, стучите — и вам откроют,

“And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.

ибо всякий, кто просит, — получает, и кто ищет — находит, и тому, кто стучит в дверь, откроют.

For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

Способен ли хоть один из вас дать сыну змею, если он просит рыбы,

“You fathers — if your children aske for a fish, do you give them a snake instead?

или дать скорпиона, если он просит яйцо?

Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not!

Если даже вы, будучи злыми, умеете давать хорошее своим детям, то тем более ваш Небесный Отец даст Духа Святого тем, кто просит у Него!

So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”

Однажды Иисус изгонял немого демона, и когда демон вышел, то немой, к изумлению присутствующих, заговорил.

One day Jesus cast out a demon from a man who couldn’t speak, and when the demon was gone, the man began to speak. The crowds were amazed,

Но некоторые сказали: «Он изгоняет демонов силой их властителя Беэл-Зевула».

but some of them said, “No wonder he can cast out demons. He gets his power from Satan,f the prince of demons.”

Другие, испытывая Его, требовали от Него знамения с неба.

Others, trying to test Jesus, demanded that he show them a miraculous sign from heaven to prove his authority.

Иисус, разгадав их мысли, сказал: — Царство, где началась распря, будет разорено. Дом, где началась распря, падет.

He knew their thoughts, so he said, “Any kingdom divided by civil war is doomed. A family splintered by feuding will fall apart.

Если Сатана разделился — ведь вы говорите, что Я изгоняю демонов силой Беэл-Зевула, — то как может устоять его царство?

You say I am empowered by Satan. But if Satan is divided and fighting against himself, how can his kingdom survive?

Если я изгоняю демонов силой Беэл-Зевула, то чьей силой изгоняют их ваши люди? Пусть они сами вас осудят.

And if I am empowered by Satan, what about your own exorcists? They cast out demons, too, so they will condemn you for what you have said.

Но если Я изгоняю демонов перстом Божьим, то значит, Царство Божье пришло к вам.

But if I am casting out demons by the power of God,g then the Kingdom of God has arrived among you.

Когда сильный и вооруженный человек охраняет свой дом, его добро в безопасности.

For when a strong man is fully armed and guards his palace, his possessions are safe —

Но если его одолеет более сильный, то он отберет оружие, на которое тот полагался, и захватит его добро.

until someone even stronger attacks and overpowers him, strips him of his weapons, and carries off his belongings.

Кто не со Мной, тот против Меня, и кто не собирает со Мной, тот расточает.

“Anyone who isn’t with me opposes me, and anyone who isn’t working with me is actually working against me.

Злой дух, покинув человека, бродит в пустыне и ищет покоя — и, не найдя, говорит себе: «Вернусь-ка я в дом, из которого вышел».

“When an evilh spirit leaves a person, it goes into the desert, searching for rest. But when it finds none, it says, ‘I will return to the person I came from.’

Возвратясь, он находит этот дом подметенным и прибранным.

So it returns and finds that its former home is all swept and in order.

Тогда он приводит семерых ещё более злых духов, и те, войдя в человека, поселяются в нем, и человеку становится еще хуже, чем прежде.

Then the spirit finds seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they all enter the person and live there. And so that person is worse off than before.”

Когда Он говорил это, женщина из толпы воскликнула: — Благословенна мать, которая родила Тебя и вскормила!

As he was speaking, a woman in the crowd called out, “God bless your mother — the womb from which you came, and the breasts that nursed you!”

Он ответил: — Благословенны те, кто слышит слово Божье и исполняет его.

Jesus replied, “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.”

Толпа росла на глазах, и Он сказал: — Порочно это поколение! Они ищут чудес, но не будет дано им чудес, кроме чуда Ионы.

As the crowd pressed in on Jesus, he said, “This evil generation keeps asking me to show them a miraculous sign. But the only sign I will give them is the sign of Jonah.

Как Иона был чудом для Ниневии, так Сын Человеческий будет чудом для них.

What happened to him was a sign to the people of Nineveh that God had sent him. What happens to the Son of Mani will be a sign to these people that he was sent by God.

Южная царица предстанет пред ними на суде, чтобы вынести им приговор, ибо она от края земли пришла ради Соломоновой мудрости, а здесь — Тот, кто больше Соломона.

“The queen of Shebaj will stand up against this generation on judgment day and condemn it, for she came from a distant land to hear the wisdom of Solomon. Now someone greater than Solomon is here — but you refuse to listen.

Жители Ниневии предстанут пред ними на суде, чтобы вынести им приговор, ибо они, услышав призыв Ионы, раскаялись, а здесь — Тот, кто больше Ионы.

The people of Nineveh will also stand up against this generation on judgment day and condemn it, for they repented of their sins at the preaching of Jonah. Now someone greater than Jonah is here — but you refuse to repent.

Никто не зажигает светильник, чтобы спрятать его в чулан или накрыть горшком. Напротив, его ставят на подставку, чтобы входящие видели свет.

“No one lights a lamp and then hides it or puts it under a basket.k Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where its light can be seen by all who enter the house.

Твой глаз — это светильник тела. Если глаз у тебя здоров, то и тело будет пронизано светом. Но если глаз у тебя болен, то и тело будет наполнено тьмою.

“Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. But when it is unhealthy, your body is filled with darkness.

Берегитесь же, чтобы свет, наполняющий вас, не сделался тьмою!

Make sure that the light you think you have is not actually darkness.

Если тело ваше наполнится светом и ни одна его часть не останется темной, оно будет таким светлым, как если бы в нём сиял светильник.

If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight were filling you with light.”

Когда Иисус кончил говорить, один фарисей пригласил Его к обеду. Он пришел и возлёг за обеденный стол.

As Jesus was speaking, one of the Pharisees invited him home for a meal. So he went in and took his place at the table.l

Видя, что Он не совершил омовения перед едой, фарисей удивился.

His host was amazed to see that he sat down to eat without first performing the hand-washing ceremony required by Jewish custom.

Но Господь сказал ему: — Вы, фарисеи, моете чаши и блюда снаружи, а внутри у вас сплошная алчность и подлость.

Then the Lord said to him, “You Pharisees are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy — full of greed and wickedness!

Глупцы! Неужели не один и тот же Создатель у внешнего и у внутреннего?

Fools! Didn’t God make the inside as well as the outside?

Делитесь своим добром с бедняками, и тогда всё у вас будет чистым.

So clean the inside by giving gifts to the poor, and you will be clean all over.

Горе вам, фарисеи! Вы отдаете Богу десятину с мяты, руты и иных огородных растений, а справедливость и любовь к Богу забыли. Но именно это важнее всего, хотя и о том не следует забывать.

“What sorrow awaits you Pharisees! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens,m but you ignore justice and the love of God. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things.

Горе вам, фарисеи! Вы любите почетные места в синагогах и приветствия на площадях.

“What sorrow awaits you Pharisees! For you love to sit in the seats of honor in the synagogues and receive respectful greetings as you walk in the marketplaces.

Горе вам! Вы — как необозначенные могилы, по которым люди ходят, не подозревая о них.

Yes, what sorrow awaits you! For you are like hidden graves in a field. People walk over them without knowing the corruption they are stepping on.”

На это один из законников заметил: — Учитель! Такими словами ты и нас задеваешь.

“Teacher,” said an expert in religious law, “you have insulted us, too, in what you just said.”

Иисус откликнулся: — Горе и вам, законники! Вы взваливаете на людей непосильную ношу, а сами и пальцем к ней не прикоснетесь.

“Yes,” said Jesus, “what sorrow also awaits you experts in religious law! For you crush people with unbearable religious demands, and you never lift a finger to ease the burden.

Горе вам! Вы воздвигаете гробницы пророкам, которых убили ваши предки.

What sorrow awaits you! For you build monuments for the prophets your own ancestors killed long ago.

Тем самым вы одобряете дела отцов: те убивали пророков, а вы строите им гробницы.

But in fact, you stand as witnesses who agree with what your ancestors did. They killed the prophets, and you join in their crime by building the monuments!

Недаром Бог в мудрости Своей сказал: «Я пошлю к ним пророков и апостолов, которых они станут убивать и преследовать».

This is what God in his wisdom said about you:n ‘I will send prophets and apostles to them, but they will kill some and persecute the others.’

И взыщется с этого поколения за кровь всех пророков, пролитую с сотворения мира,

“As a result, this generation will be held responsible for the murder of all God’s prophets from the creation of the world —

от крови Авеля до крови Захарии, убитого между алтарем и святилищем. Да, говорю вам, с этого поколения взыщется за всё!

from the murder of Abel to the murder of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, it will certainly be charged against this generation.

Горе вам, законники! Вы, забрав себе ключ от знания, и сами не вошли, и других не пустили.

“What sorrow awaits you experts in religious law! For you remove the key to knowledge from the people. You don’t enter the Kingdom yourselves, and you prevent others from entering.”

После того как Он ушёл оттуда, фарисеи и законники стали противодействовать Ему. Они досаждали Ему вопросами,

As Jesus was leaving, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees became hostile and tried to provoke him with many questions.

надеясь поймать Его на слове.

They wanted to trap him into saying something they could use against him.
