Тогда, в Царстве Небесном, будет как с десятью девушками, которые, взяв светильники, вышли встречать жениха87.

“Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten bridesmaidsa who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom.

Пять из них были глупыми, а пять — благоразумными.

Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.

Глупые не взяли с собой масло для светильников,

The five who were foolish didn’t take enough olive oil for their lamps,

а благоразумные вместе со светильниками захватили и сосуды с маслом.

but the other five were wise enough to take along extra oil.

Жених долго не появлялся, и все девушки задремали.

When the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

В полночь раздался клич: “Идёт жених, выходите его встречать!”

“At midnight they were roused by the shout, ‘Look, the bridegroom is coming! Come out and meet him!’

Девушки, пробудившись, стали поправлять светильники.

“All the bridesmaids got up and prepared their lamps.

И глупые обратились к благоразумным: “Дайте нам масла: наши светильники гаснут”.

Then the five foolish ones asked the others, ‘Please give us some of your oil because our lamps are going out.’

Но те им отказали: “Нет, нам с вами масла не хватит. Лучше пойдите и купите его у торговцев”.

“But the others replied, ‘We don’t have enough for all of us. Go to a shop and buy some for yourselves.’

Пока глупые девушки ходили за маслом, пришёл жених. Девушки, стоявшие наготове, вошли вместе с ним на пир, и двери за ними закрылись.

“But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came. Then those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was locked.

Позже подошли девушки, ходившие за маслом, и стали кричать: “Господин, господин наш, открой нам!”

Later, when the other five bridesmaids returned, they stood outside, calling, ‘Lord! Lord! Open the door for us!’

А он ответил: “Говорю вам истину: я вас не знаю”.

“But he called back, ‘Believe me, I don’t know you!’

Итак, бодрствуйте, ибо вы не знаете ни дня, ни часа.

“So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.

Или будет как с человеком, который, собираясь на чужбину, позвал рабов и вручил им своё состояние.

“Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone.

Одному он дал пять талантов, другому — два, третьему — один: каждому по его дарованиям, и уехал.

He gave five bags of silverb to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last — dividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip.

Обладатель пяти талантов пошёл и, пустив их в дело, получил доход в пять талантов.

“The servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more.

Точно так же получивший два таланта нажил ещё два.

The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned two more.

А получивший один талант зарыл хозяйские деньги в землю.

But the servant who received the one bag of silver dug a hole in the ground and hid the master’s money.

И вот, после долгого отсутствия вернулся хозяин и потребовал от рабов отчёта.

“After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money.

Раб, получивший от него пять талантов, принёс ему десять и сказал: “Господин мой, ты дал мне пять талантов. Смотри, я заработал ещё пять!”

The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, ‘Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’

Хозяин ответил: “Отлично, мой верный, надёжный слуга! Раз ты был верен в малом, я назначу тебя распорядителем многого. Радуйся вместе со своим господином!”

“The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!c’

Пришёл также раб, получивший два таланта, и сказал: “Господин мой, ты дал мне два таланта. Смотри, я заработал ещё два!”

“The servant who had received the two bags of silver came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two bags of silver to invest, and I have earned two more.’

“The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’

Явился и раб, получивший один талант, и сказал: “Господин! Я знаю, что ты — человек жестокий: пожинаешь там, где не сеял, и собираешь там, где не рассыпал.

“Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate.

Из страха перед тобой я зарыл талант твой в землю. Вот, возьми своё!”

I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.’

Хозяин ответил: “Негодный, ленивый раб! Ты ведь знал, что я люблю пожинать, где не сеял, и собирать, где не рассыпал.

“But the master replied, ‘You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn’t plant and gathered crops I didn’t cultivate,

Ты должен был пустить мои деньги в рост, чтобы, вернувшись, я получил на них прибыль.

why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’

Заберите у него талант и отдайте обладателю десяти!

“Then he ordered, ‘Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one with the ten bags of silver.

Ибо кто имеет, тот получит ещё больше и будет иметь в избытке, а у неимущего отнимут и то, что он имеет.

To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.

А никчемного раба пусть выбросят вон, во тьму: там будут рыдать и скрежетать зубами”.

Now throw this useless servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Когда Сын Человеческий придёт со славой в окружении всех ангелов, Он воссядет на царском престоле

“But when the Son of Mand comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit upon his glorious throne.

и к Нему будут собраны все народы. И Он отделит одних людей от других, как пастух отделяет овец от козлов,

All the nationse will be gathered in his presence, and he will separate the people as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

и поставит овец по правую руку от себя, а козлов — по левую.

He will place the sheep at his right hand and the goats at his left.

И скажет Царь стоящим справа: “Идите ко Мне! Вас благословил мой Отец. Владейте царством, приготовленным для вас при сотворении мира.

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world.

Ибо Я был голоден, и вы дали Мне есть, страдал от жажды, и вы дали Мне пить, был чужестранцем, и вы дали Мне кров,

For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home.

был нагим, и вы дали Мне одежду, был больным, и вы обо Мне позаботились, был узником, и вы Меня навестили”.

I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’

Тогда спросят праведные: “Господин наш, когда мы видели Тебя голодным — и накормили, страдающим от жажды — и напоили?

“Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink?

Когда мы видели Тебя чужестранцем — и приютили, нагим — и одели?

Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing?

Когда мы видели Тебя больным или узником — и навестили?”

When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’

А Царь им скажет: “Говорю вам истину: всё, что вы сделали для одного из этих братьев Моих наименьших, вы сделали для Меня”.

“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,f you were doing it to me!’

Потом Он скажет стоящим слева: “Прочь от меня! Вы прокляты. Ступайте в вечный огонь, приготовленный для Дьявола и ангелов его.

“Then the King will turn to those on the left and say, ‘Away with you, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his demons.g

Ибо Я был голоден, а вы не дали Мне есть, страдал от жажды, а вы не дали Мне пить,

For I was hungry, and you didn’t feed me. I was thirsty, and you didn’t give me a drink.

был чужестранцем, а вы не приютили Меня, был нагим, а вы не дали Мне одежды, был больным и узником, а вы Меня не навестили”.

I was a stranger, and you didn’t invite me into your home. I was naked, and you didn’t give me clothing. I was sick and in prison, and you didn’t visit me.’

Тогда спросят и они: “Господин наш, когда же мы видели Тебя голодным или страдающим от жажды, чужестранцем или нагим, больным или узником — и не позаботились о Тебе?”

“Then they will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?’

А Он им на это скажет: “Говорю вам истину: чего вы не сделали для одного из этих наименьших, того вы не сделали для Меня”.

“And he will answer, ‘I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.’

И пойдут они в муку на века, а праведные — в жизнь на века».

“And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life.”
