Один человек, которого звали Лазарь, был болен. Лазарь был из Вифании, деревни, где жили Мария и ее сестра Марфа.

Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.

Мария, кстати, и была той женщиной, что помазала Господа ароматным маслом и вытерла Его ноги своими волосами. И вот ее брат Лазарь был болен.

It was that Mary who anointed the Lord with fragrant oil and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.

Сестры передали Иисусу: — Господи, тот, кого Ты любишь, болен.

Therefore the sisters sent to Him, saying, “Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.”

Когда Иисус услышал об этом, Он сказал: — Эта болезнь не к смерти, она для славы Божьей, чтобы Сын Божий был прославлен через нее.

When Jesus heard that, He said, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”

Иисус любил Марфу, ее сестру Марию и Лазаря.

Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.

Однако когда Он узнал, что Лазарь болен, то пробыл там, где Он тогда находился, еще два дня.

So, when He heard that he was sick, He stayed two more days in the place where He was.

Затем Он сказал своим ученикам: — Пойдем обратно в Иудею.

Then after this He said to the disciples, “Let us go to Judea again.”

— Учитель, — сказали они Ему, — иудеи ведь еще недавно хотели побить Тебя камнями, а Ты хочешь туда возвратиться?

The disciples said to Him, “Rabbi, lately the Jews sought to stone You, and are You going there again?”

Иисус ответил: — Разве не двенадцать часов в сутки светло? Тот, кто ходит днем, не споткнется, потому что он видит свет этого мира.

Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.

A тот, кто ходит ночью, споткнется, потому что в это время темно.

But if one walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.”

Сказав это, Иисус добавил: — Наш друг Лазарь заснул, но Я иду разбудить его.

These things He said, and after that He said to them, “Our friend Lazarus sleeps, but I go that I may wake him up.”

Ученики Его сказали: — Господи, если он спит, значит, ему стало лучше.

Then His disciples said, “Lord, if he sleeps he will get well.”

Иисус говорил им о том, что Лазарь умер, но ученики думали, что Он говорит об обыкновенном сне.

However, Jesus spoke of his death, but they thought that He was speaking about taking rest in sleep.

Тогда Он сказал им прямо: — Лазарь умер.

Then Jesus said to them plainly, “Lazarus is dead.

Ради вас и ради того, чтобы вы поверили, Я рад, что Меня там не было. Но сейчас пойдем к нему.

And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, that you may believe. Nevertheless let us go to him.”

Тогда Фома, которого еще называли Близнец, сказал остальным ученикам: — Пойдем и мы и умрем с Ним!

Then Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with Him.”

Придя туда, Иисус узнал, что тело Лазаря уже четыре дня в могиле.

So when Jesus came, He found that he had already been in the tomb four days.

Вифания была менее чем в трех километрах от Иерусалима,

Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about [a]two miles away.

и к Марфе с Марией пришло много иудеев, чтобы высказать свое соболезнование по поводу смерти их брата.

And many of the Jews had joined the women around Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.

Когда Марфа услышала, что пришел Иисус, она пошла встретить Его, а Мария осталась дома.

Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met Him, but Mary was sitting in the house.

— Господи, — сказала Марфа Иисусу, — если бы Ты был здесь, то мой брат не умер бы.

Now Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.

Но я знаю, что Бог и сейчас даст Тебе, что бы Ты ни попросил.

But even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You.”

Иисус сказал ей: — Твой брат воскреснет.

Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”

Марфа ответила: — Я знаю, что он воскреснет в день воскресения, в последний день.

Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”

Иисус сказал ей: — Я — воскресение и жизнь. Тот, кто верит в Меня, если и умрет — оживет,

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.

а кто живет и верит в Меня, тот никогда не умрет. Ты этому веришь?

And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

— Да, Господи, — сказала она, — я верю, что Ты Мессия, Сын Божий, который пришел в мир.

She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”

Сказав это, Марфа вернулась, отозвала свою сестру в сторону и сказала: — Учитель здесь, Он зовет тебя.

And when she had said these things, she went her way and secretly called Mary her sister, saying, “The Teacher has come and is calling for you.”

Когда Мария это услышала, она тут же побежала Ему навстречу.

As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly and came to Him.

Иисус еще не вошел в деревню и стоял там, где Марфа Его встретила.

Now Jesus had not yet come into the town, but [b]was in the place where Martha met Him.

Когда иудеи, бывшие с ней в доме и утешавшие ее, заметили, как она быстро встала и вышла, они пошли за ней, решив, что она пошла к могиле плакать.

Then the Jews who were with her in the house, and comforting her, when they saw that Mary rose up quickly and went out, followed her, [c]saying, “She is going to the tomb to weep there.”

Мария пришла туда, где был Иисус, и увидев Его, упала к Его ногам, говоря: — Господи, если бы Ты был здесь, мой брат бы не умер.

Then, when Mary came where Jesus was, and saw Him, she fell down at His feet, saying to Him, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.”

Иисус, видя, что плачет и она, и иудеи, которые с ней, и сам сильно опечалился.

Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, He groaned in the spirit and was troubled.

— Куда вы его положили? — спросил Он. — Пойдем, и Ты сам увидишь, Господи, — сказали они.

And He said, “Where have you laid him?” They said to Him, “Lord, come and see.”

Иисус заплакал.

Jesus wept.

Иудеи говорили между собой: — Смотрите, как Он его любил.

Then the Jews said, “See how He loved him!”

Некоторые, однако же, говорили: — Неужели Он, который открыл глаза слепому, не мог сделать так, чтобы этот человек не умер?

And some of them said, “Could not this Man, who opened the eyes of the blind, also have kept this man from dying?”

Иисус, печальный, пошел к могиле. Могила была пещерой в скале, ко входу которой был привален камень.

Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it.

— Уберите камень, — велел Он. Марфа, сестра умершего, сказала: — Господи, но там ведь уже смрад, Лазарь четыре дня как в могиле.

Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”

Тогда Иисус сказал: — Разве Я не говорил тебе, что если ты будешь верить, то увидишь Божью славу?

Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?”

Камень убрали. Тогда Иисус посмотрел на небо и сказал: — Отец, благодарю Тебя за то, что Ты слышишь Меня.

Then they took away the stone [d]from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.

Я знаю, что Ты всегда слышишь Меня, но Я сказал это ради тех, кто стоит здесь, чтобы они поверили, что Ты послал Меня.

And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.”

Сказав это, Иисус громко позвал: — Лазарь, выходи!

Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!”

Умерший вышел. Его руки и ноги были обвязаны погребальными полотнами, а лицо закрыто платком. — Развяжите его, чтобы он мог идти, — сказал Иисус.

And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.”

Многие из иудеев, которые пришли навестить Марию и видели, что сделал Иисус, поверили в Него.

Then many of the Jews who had come to Mary, and had seen the things Jesus did, believed in Him.

Но некоторые из них пошли к фарисеям и рассказали им обо всем.

But some of them went away to the Pharisees and told them the things Jesus did.

Первосвященники и фарисеи тогда созвали совет. — Что нам делать? — спрашивали они. — Этот человек совершает много чудес.

Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, “What shall we do? For this Man works many signs.

Если мы позволим Ему продолжать, то все уверуют в Него, и тогда римляне придут и уничтожат и наш храм, и наш народ.

If we let Him alone like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and nation.”

Каиафа, один из них, который в тот год был первосвященником, сказал: — Вы ничего не понимаете!

And one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all,

Вы не можете понять, что лучше, чтобы один человек умер за народ, чем погиб бы весь народ.

nor do you consider that it is expedient for [e]us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should perish.”

Он сказал это не от себя, но, будучи в этот год первосвященником, он изрек пророчество о том, что Иисус умрет за народ,

Now this he did not say on his own authority; but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,

и не только за иудейский народ, но и за то, чтобы рассеянных повсюду детей Божьих собрать воедино.

and not for that nation only, but also that He would gather together in one the children of God who were scattered abroad.

С этого дня они стали думать, как убить Иисуса.

Then, from that day on, they plotted to put Him to death.

И Иисус поэтому уже не ходил открыто среди иудеев. Он ушел в местность, расположенную недалеко от пустыни, в город Ефраим. Там Он и находился со своими учениками.

Therefore Jesus no longer walked openly among the Jews, but went from there into the country near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim, and there remained with His disciples.

Приближался иудейский праздник Пасхи, и многие жители страны шли в Иерусалим для обрядового очищения перед Пасхой.

And the Passover of the Jews was near, and many went from the country up to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.

Они искали Иисуса и в храме спрашивали друг друга: — Как вы думаете, неужели Он вообще не придет на праздник?

Then they sought Jesus, and spoke among themselves as they stood in the temple, “What do you think — that He will not come to the feast?”

Первосвященники же и фарисеи отдали распоряжение о том, что если кто-либо прознает, где Иисус, то должен сообщить им, чтобы они могли арестовать Его.

Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a command, that if anyone knew where He was, he should report it, that they might seize Him.
