Then Job answered and said:

Ѿвѣща́въ же їѡвъ, речѐ:

“Keep listening to my words, and let this be your comfort.

послѹ́шайте, послѹ́шайте слове́съ мои́хъ, да не бѹ́детъ мѝ ѿ ва́съ сїѐ ѹ҆тѣше́нїе:

Bear with me, and I will speak, and after I have spoken, mock on.

потерпи́те мѝ, а҆́зъ же возглаго́лю, та́же не посмѣе́темисѧ.

As for me, is my complaint against man? Why should I not be impatient?

Что́ бо; є҆да̀ человѣ́ческо мѝ ѡ҆бличе́нїе; и҆лѝ почто̀ не воз̾ѧрю́сѧ;

Look at me and be appalled, and lay your hand over your mouth.

Воззрѣ́вшїи на мѧ̀ ѹ҆диви́тесѧ, рѹ́кѹ поло́жше на лани́тѣ.

When I remember, I am dismayed, and shuddering seizes my flesh.

А҆́ще бо воспомѧнѹ̀, ѹ҆жаснѹ́сѧ: ѡ҆бдержа́тъ бо пло́ть мою̀ болѣ҄зни.

Why do the wicked live, reach old age, and grow mighty in power?

Почто̀ нечести́вїи живѹ́тъ, ѡ҆бетша́ша же въ бога́тствѣ;

Their offspring are established in their presence, and their descendants before their eyes.

Сѣ́мѧ и҆́хъ по дѹшѝ, ча҄да же и҆́хъ пред̾ ѻ҆чи́ма.

Their houses are safe from fear, and no rod of God is upon them.

До́мове и҆́хъ ѻ҆би́лнїи сѹ́ть, стра́хъ же нигдѣ̀, ра́ны же ѿ гд҇а нѣ́сть на ни́хъ.

Their bull breeds without fail; their cow calves and does not miscarry.

Говѧ́до и҆́хъ не и҆зве́рже: спасе́на же бы́сть и҆́хъ и҆мѹ́щаѧ во чре́вѣ и҆ не лиши́сѧ.

They send out their little boys like a flock, and their children dance.

Пребыва́ютъ же ѩ҆́кѡ ѻ҆́вцы вѣ҄чныѧ, дѣ́ти же и҆́хъ пред̾игра́ютъ,

They sing to the tambourine and the lyre and rejoice to the sound of the pipe.

взе́мше ѱалти́рь и҆ гѹ́сли, и҆ веселѧ́тсѧ гла́сомъ пѣ́сни.

They spend their days in prosperity, and in peace they go down to Sheol.

Сконча́ша во благи́хъ житїѐ своѐ, въ поко́и же а҆́довѣ ѹ҆спо́ша.

They say to God, ‘Depart from us! We do not desire the knowledge of your ways.

Глаго́лютъ же гд҇еви: ѿстѹпѝ ѿ на́съ, пѹті́й твои́хъ вѣ́дѣти не хо́щемъ:

What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit do we get if we pray to him?’

что̀ досто́инъ, ѩ҆́кѡ да порабо́таемъ є҆мѹ̀; и҆ ка́ѧ по́льза, ѩ҆́кѡ да взы́щемъ є҆го̀;

Behold, is not their prosperity in their hand? The counsel of the wicked is far from me.

Въ рѹка́хъ бо и҆́хъ бѧ́хѹ блага҄ѧ, дѣ́лъ же нечести́выхъ не надзира́етъ.

“How often is it that the lamp of the wicked is put out? That their calamity comes upon them? That Goda distributes pains in his anger?

Ѻ҆ба́че же и҆ нечести́выхъ свѣти́лникъ ѹ҆га́снетъ, на́йдетъ же и҆̀мъ развраще́нїе, бѡлѣ́зни же и҆̀хъ ѡ҆б̾и́мѹтъ ѿ гнѣ́ва:

That they are like straw before the wind, and like chaff that the storm carries away?

бѹ́дѹтъ же а҆́ки плє́вы пред̾ вѣ́тромъ, и҆лѝ ѩ҆́коже пра́хъ, є҆го́же взѧ̀ ви́хръ.

You say, ‘God stores up their iniquity for their children.’ Let him pay it out to them, that they may know it.

Да ѡ҆скѹдѣ́ютъ сынѡ́мъ и҆мѣ҄нїѧ є҆гѡ̀: возда́стъ проти́вѹ є҆мѹ̀, и҆ ѹ҆разѹмѣ́етъ.

Let their own eyes see their destruction, and let them drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

Да ѹ҆́зрѧтъ ѻ҆́чи є҆гѡ̀ своѐ ѹ҆бїе́нїе, ѿ гд҇а же да не спасе́тсѧ.

For what do they care for their houses after them, when the number of their months is cut off?

ѩ҆́кѡ во́лѧ є҆гѡ̀ съ ни́мъ въ домѹ̀ є҆гѡ̀, и҆ чи́сла мц҇ей є҆гѡ̀ раздѣли́шасѧ.

Will any teach God knowledge, seeing that he judges those who are on high?

Не гд҇ь ли є҆́сть наѹча́ѧй ра́зѹмѹ и҆ хи́трости; то́йже мѹ́дрыхъ разсѹжда́етъ.

One dies in his full vigor, being wholly at ease and secure,

То́й ѹ҆́мретъ въ си́лѣ простоты̀ своеѧ̀, всецѣ́лъ же благодѹ́шествѹѧй и҆ благоѹспѣва́ѧй,

his pailsb full of milk and the marrow of his bones moist.

ѹ҆тро́ба же є҆гѡ̀ и҆спо́лнена тѹ́ка, мо́згъ же є҆гѡ̀ разлива́етсѧ.

Another dies in bitterness of soul, never having tasted of prosperity.

Ѻ҆́въ же ѹ҆мира́етъ въ го́рести дѹшѝ, не ѩ҆ды́й ничто́же бла́га.

They lie down alike in the dust, and the worms cover them.

Вкѹ́пѣ же на землѝ спѧ́тъ, гни́лость же и҆̀хъ покры̀.

“Behold, I know your thoughts and your schemes to wrong me.

Тѣ́мже вѣ́мъ ва́съ, ѩ҆́кѡ де́рзостїю належите́ ми,

For you say, ‘Where is the house of the prince? Where is the tent in which the wicked lived?’

ѩ҆́кѡ рече́те: гдѣ́ є҆сть до́мъ кнѧ́жь; и҆ гдѣ́ є҆сть покро́въ селе́нїй нечести́выхъ;

Have you not asked those who travel the roads, and do you not accept their testimony

Вопроси́те мимоходѧ́щихъ пѹте́мъ, и҆ зна́мєнїѧ и҆́хъ не чѹ҄жда сотвори́те.

that the evil man is spared in the day of calamity, that he is rescued in the day of wrath?

ѩ҆́кѡ на де́нь па́гѹбы соблюда́етсѧ нечести́вый, и҆ въ де́нь гнѣ́ва є҆гѡ̀ ѿведе́нъ бѹ́детъ.

Who declares his way to his face, and who repays him for what he has done?

Кто̀ возвѣсти́тъ пред̾ лице́мъ є҆гѡ̀ пѹ́ть є҆гѡ̀, и҆ є҆́же то́й сотворѝ, кто̀ возда́стъ є҆мѹ̀;

When he is carried to the grave, watch is kept over his tomb.

И҆ то́й во гро́бъ ѿнесе́нъ бы́сть, и҆ на гроби́щихъ побдѣ̀.

The clods of the valley are sweet to him; all mankind follows after him, and those who go before him are innumerable.

Ѹ҆слади́сѧ є҆мѹ̀ дро́бное ка́менїе пото́ка, и҆ в̾слѣ́дъ є҆гѡ̀ всѧ́къ человѣ́къ ѿи́детъ, и҆ пред̾ ни́мъ безчи́сленнїи.

How then will you comfort me with empty nothings? There is nothing left of your answers but falsehood.”

Ка́кѡ же мѧ̀ ѹ҆тѣша́ете сѹ́етными; а҆ є҆́же бы мнѣ̀ почи́ти ѿ ва́съ, ничто́же.
