Закончив эту речь, обращенную к народу, Иисус пошел в Кфар-Нахум.

Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.

У одного центуриона тяжело больной слуга, очень им ценимый, был при смерти.

And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die.

Узнав об Иисусе, центурион послал к Нему еврейских старейшин, умоляя прийти и спасти слугу.

And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.

Придя к Иисусу, старейшины стали Его упрашивать: «Этому человеку надо помочь,

And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:

он любит евреев и даже построил нам синагогу».

For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.

Иисус пошел с ними, и когда Он уже подходил к дому центуриона, тот выслал ему навстречу друзей, чтобы передать: — Господин мой, не трудись! Я недостоин принять Тебя под своим кровом.

Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof:

Я даже прийти к Тебе не осмеливаюсь. Скажи только слово, и мой слуга исцелится!

Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.

Ведь и сам я служу, и солдаты мне подчиняются. Я говорю одному «иди» — и он уходит, другому «приди» — и он приходит, говорю слуге «сделай» — и он делает.

For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.

Услышав это, Иисус удивился и, обернувшись к сопровождавшей Его толпе, сказал: —Воистину, такой веры Я не видел даже в Израиле!

When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

И когда посланные вернулись домой, они узнали, что слуга исцелился.

And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.

Затем Иисус отправился в город Наин, и с Ним — ученики и множество народа.

And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.

Подходя к городским воротам, Он встретил толпу горожан, несших хоронить единственного сына одной вдовы.

Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.

Увидев её, Господь сжалился и сказал ей: — Не плачь.

And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.

Подойдя, Он коснулся гроба, и носильщики остановились. Затем Он сказал: — Юноша, приказываю тебе, встань!

And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.

Покойник сел и заговорил; Иисус передал его матери.

And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.

Страх охватил присутствующих, и они восславили Бога, восклицая: «Великий пророк появился у нас! Бог вспомнил о Своём народе!»

And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.

Весть об Иисусе разнеслась по всей Иудее и даже за её пределами.

And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about.

Ученики Иоанна рассказали ему обо всем этом, и он, призвав двух учеников своих,

And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things.

послал их к Господу с вопросом: «Ты ли Тот, кто должен явиться, или нам следует ждать другого?»

And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?

Представ перед Иисусом, те сказали: — Иоанн Креститель послал нас к Тебе с вопросом: «Ты ли Тот, Кто должен явиться, или нам следует ждать другого?»

When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?

А к тому времени Иисус уже многих исцелил от болезней, недомоганий, злых духов, многим слепым даровал зрение.

And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.

Поэтому Он ответил посланцам: — Ступайте и расскажите Иоанну то, что видели и слышали: Слепые прозревают, хромые ходят, прокаженные очищаются, глухие слышат, мертвые воскресают, и к бедным приходит Добрая Весть.

Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.

Счастлив тот, кто Меня не отвергнет!

And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

Когда посланцы Иоанна ушли, Иисус заговорил о нём, обращаясь к народу: — На что вы ходили смотреть в пустыню? Не на тростник же, колеблемый ветром!

And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

Тогда на что вы ходили смотреть? На человека в тонких одеждах? Но тех, кто носит дорогие одежды и живет в роскоши, надо искать во дворце.

But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings' courts.

Так кого же вы хотели увидеть? Пророка? Да, и это не просто пророк!

But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.

Он тот, о ком в Писании сказано: Посылаю перед Тобой вестника: он проложит Тебе путь.

This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

Поверьте, нет среди всех рожденных большего пророка, чем Иоанн, но даже наименьший в Царстве Божьем — превосходит его.

For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

(Услышав это, весь народ и даже откупщики воздали хвалу Богу за то, что были омыты Иоанном.

And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.

Только фарисеи и законники отвергли Божью волю, не приняв от него омовение.)

But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.

С кем Мне сравнить поколение это, на кого похоже оно?

And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?

Оно — словно дети на площади, которые говорят другим детям: Мы играли на флейте, а вы не плясали, Мы пели печальное, а вы не плакали!

They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.

Пришел Иоанн Креститель, который не ест и вина не пьет, и вы говорите: «В нём демон».

For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil.

Пришел Сын Человеческий, который ест и пьёт, и вы говорите: «Это обжора и пьяница, приятель откупщиков и грешников».

The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!

Но правота Мудрости доказана теми, кто последовал за Нею.

But wisdom is justified of all her children.

Один из фарисеев пригласил Иисуса отобедать, и вот Он, придя в дом к тому фарисею, возлег за обеденный стол.

And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.

А одна грешница, жившая в том городе, узнала, что Он пирует у фарисея, принесла алебастровый сосуд с благовонием

And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,

и, став позади, у Него в ногах, с плачем начала омывать ему ноги слезами, отирать волосами, целовать и умащать благовонием.

And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

Видя это, фарисей, пригласивший Его, подумал: «Если бы человек этот был пророком, Он бы знал, какая грешница прикасается к Нему».

Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.

Тогда Иисус обратился к нему: — Симон, Я хочу тебе кое-что рассказать. Тот ответил: — Расскажи, Учитель.

And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.

— Было у ростовщика двое должников: один задолжал ему пятьсот денариев, а другой пятьдесят.

There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.

Видя, что платить им нечем, тот простил долг им обоим. Кто из них больше ему благодарен?

And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?

Симон ответил: — Думаю, тот, кому он больше простил. Иисус сказал: — Ты совершенно прав!

Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.

Затем, взглянув на ту женщину, Он сказал Симону: — Видишь её? Я пришел к тебе в гости, и ты не дал Мне воды, чтобы омыть ноги. А она омыла Мне ноги слезами и вытерла волосами своими.

And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.

Ты не удостоил меня поцелуя, а она, с тех пор как Я вошел, не перестает целовать Мне ноги.

Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.

Ты не умастил Мне голову маслом, а она полила благовонием ноги Мои.

My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.

Поэтому, говорю тебе, прощаются ей многие грехи, ибо она и любит много. А кому мало прощается, тот и любит мало.

Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

Женщине Иисус сказал: — Твои грехи прощены.

And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.

Пирующие стали между собой шептаться: «Кто Он такой, что даже грехи прощает?»

And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?

А Он сказал женщине: — Вера спасла тебя. Иди с миром.

And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
