Forasmuch as many have undertaken to draw up a relation concerning the matters fully believed among us,

Поскольку многие уже брались составлять повествования о событиях, совершившихся среди нас и

as those who from the beginning were eye-witnesses of and attendants on the Word have delivered them to us,

переданных нам теми, кто с самого начала были очевидцами и служителями Слова, —

it has seemed good to me also, accurately acquainted from the origin with all things, to write to thee with method, most excellent Theophilus,

счел за благо и я, тщательно исследовав все с самого начала, связно изложить это для тебя, достойнейший Феофил,

that thou mightest know the certainty of those things in which thou hast been instructed.

чтобы ты мог усмотреть, насколько достоверно учение, которое тебе преподали.

There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest, by name Zacharias, of the course of Abia, and his wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name Elizabeth.

Был во времена Ирода, царя Иудеи, некий священник, именем Захария, из разряда Авии, и была у него жена из рода Аарона, имя ее — Елисавета;

And they were both just before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

и были они оба праведны пред Богом, соблюдая безукоризненно все заповеди и установления Господни.

And they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in years.

И не было у них ребенка, потому что Елисавета была бесплодна, и оба были уже в преклонных годах.

And it came to pass, as he fulfilled his priestly service before God in the order of his course,

И вот, когда был его черед исполнять свои священнические обязанности перед Богом,

it fell to him by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to enter into the temple of the Lord to burn incense.

ему по обычаю, принятому у священников, выпал жребий войти в Храм Господень и совершать каждение,

And all the multitude of the people were praying without at the hour of incense.

между тем как весь народ во время каждения стоял за дверями и молился.

And an angel of [the] Lord appeared to him, standing on the right of the altar of incense.

И явился ему ангел Господень, представ по правую руку возле жертвенника каждения.

And Zacharias was troubled, seeing [him], and fear fell upon him.

И Захария, увидев, смутился, и напал на него страх.

But the angel said to him, Fear not, Zacharias, because thy supplication has been heard, and thy wife Elizabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

Но ангел сказал ему: «Не страшись, Захария! Ибо услышана молитва твоя, и жена твоя Елисавета родит тебе сына, и ты наречешь имя ему: Иоанн.

And he shall be to thee joy and rejoicing, and many shall rejoice at his birth.

И будет радость тебе и ликование, и многие рождению его возрадуются;

For he shall be great before [the] Lord, and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with [the] Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.

ибо он велик будет пред Господом, ни вина, ни хмельного пить не станет, и Дух Святой исполнит его еще от чрева матери его.

And many of the sons of Israel shall he turn to [the] Lord their God.

И многих из сынов, Израиля обратит он к Господу, Богу их.

And he shall go before him in [the] spirit and power of Elias, to turn hearts of fathers to children, and disobedient ones to [the] thoughts of just [men], to make ready for [the] Lord a prepared people.

И пойдет он пред Господом в духе и силе Илии, чтобы возвратить детям — сердца отцов, и непокорным — разумение праведных, чтобы сделать народ уготованным для Господа».

And Zacharias said to the angel, How shall I know this, for I am an old man, and my wife advanced in years?

И спросил Захария ангела: «По какому знаку я узнаю, что так будет? Ведь я стар, и жена моя в преклонных годах».

And the angel answering, said to him, I am Gabriel, who stand before God, and I have been sent to speak to thee, and to bring these glad tidings to thee;

И сказал ангел ему в ответ: «Я — Гавриил и предстою пред лицом Бога, и послан говорить с тобой и возвестить тебе эту благую весть.

and behold, thou shalt be silent and not able to speak, till the day in which these things shall take place, because thou hast not believed my words, the which shall be fulfilled in their time.

Смотри же, ты лишишься речи и не сможешь говорить вплоть до того дня, когда это исполнится, за то, что не поверил словам моим, которые сбудутся в свое время».

And the people were awaiting Zacharias, and they wondered at his delaying in the temple.

И народ дожидался Захарию и дивился, что он так медлит в Храме.

But when he came out he could not speak to them, and they recognised that he had seen a vision in the temple. And he was making signs to them, and continued dumb.

А тот, выйдя, не мог с ними говорить, и поняли они, что в Храме явилось ему видение; он подавал им знаки и оставался нем.

And it came to pass, when the days of his service were completed, he departed to his house.

И было, когда окончились дни его служения, вернулся он в дом свой.

Now after these days, Elizabeth his wife conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,

А после дней тех зачала Елисавета, жена его, и пять месяцев скрывала себя от всех. Она говорила:

Thus has [the] Lord done to me in [these] days in which he looked upon [me] to take away my reproach among men.

«Это сотворил для меня Господь в те дни, когда Ему благоугодно было снять с меня позор перед людьми».

But in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent of God to a city of Galilee, of which [the] name [was] Nazareth,

А когда была она на шестом месяце, послал Бог ангела Гавриила в галилейский город, именуемый Назарет,

to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name [was] Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name [was] Mary.

к деве, обрученной жениху по имени Иосиф, из рода Давида; и было имя девы той Мариам.

And the angel came in to her, and said, Hail, [thou] favoured one! the Lord [is] with thee: [blessed art thou amongst women].

И ангел, войдя к ней, сказал: «Радуйся, Благодатная! С Тобою Господь!»

But she, [seeing] [the angel], was troubled at his word, and reasoned in her mind what this salutation might be.

Но она сильно смутилась от его слов и стала раздумывать, что же значит такое приветствие.

And the angel said to her, Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found favour with God;

И сказал ей ангел: «Не страшись, Мариам, ибо ты обрела милость у Бога:

and behold, thou shalt conceive in the womb and bear a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus.

и вот, ты зачнешь и родишь Сына, и наречешь Ему имя: Иисус;

He shall be great, and shall be called Son of [the] Highest; and [the] Lord God shall give him the throne of David his father;

и будет Он велик, и назовут Его Сыном Вышнего; и даст Ему Господь Бог престол Давида, праотца Его,

and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for the ages, and of his kingdom there shall not be an end.

и воцарится Он над родом Иакова вовек, и Царству Его не будет конца».

But Mary said to the angel, How shall this be, since I know not a man?

И сказала Мариам ангелу: «Как же будет это, если я не знаю мужа?»

And the angel answering said to her, [The] Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and power of [the] Highest overshadow thee, wherefore the holy thing also which shall be born shall be called Son of God.

И ангел сказал ей в ответ: «Дух Святой сойдет на тебя, и Сила Вышнего осенит тебя; потому Дитя твое будет свято и наречется: Сын Божий.

And behold, Elizabeth, thy kinswoman, she also has conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month to her that was called barren:

Вот и Елисавета, родственница твоя, в старости своей зачала сына, и тому уже шестой месяц — а ее называли бесплодной.

for nothing shall be impossible with God.

Ибо нет для Бога ничего невозможного».

And Mary said, Behold the bondmaid of [the] Lord; be it to me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

Тогда Мариам сказала: «Пред тобою раба Господня; да будет со мною, как ты сказал». И удалился от нее ангел.

And Mary, rising up in those days, went into the hill country with haste, to a city of Judah,

По прошествии нескольких дней Мариам, выйдя в путь, с поспешностью направилась в нагорный край, в иудейский город,

and entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elizabeth.

и вошла в дом Захарии, и приветствовала Елисавету. И вот, когда услышала Елисавета слова, которыми приветствовала ее Мария, взыграл младенец в ее чреве.

And it came to pass, as Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with [the] Holy Spirit,

И исполнилась Елисавета Духом Святым,

and cried out with a loud voice and said, Blessed [art] thou amongst women, and blessed the fruit of thy womb.

и громко вскричала такие слова: «Благословенна Ты между женами, и благословен плод чрева Твоего!

And whence [is] this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

И откуда мне такая честь, что Матерь Господа Моего пришла ко мне?

For behold, as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the babe leaped with joy in my womb.

Ибо когда звук приветствия Твоего достиг ушей моих, взыграл от радости младенец во чреве моем;

And blessed [is] she that has believed, for there shall be a fulfilment of the things spoken to her from [the] Lord.

и блаженна Уверовавшая, что исполнится предреченное Ей от Господа».

And Mary said, My soul magnifies the Lord,

И сказала Мариам: «Величает душа моя Господа,

and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Saviour.

и ликует дух мой о Боге, Спасителе моем,

For he has looked upon the low estate of his bondmaid; for behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

ибо призрел Он на убожество рабы Своей: вот, блаженною назовут меня из рода в род!

For the Mighty One has done to me great things, and holy [is] his name;

Ибо великое свершил для меня Сильный, и свято Имя Его,

and his mercy [is] to generations and generations to them that fear him.

и милость Его в род и род для чтущих Его.

He has wrought strength with his arm; he has scattered haughty [ones] in the thought of their heart.

Явил Он силу длани Своей, посрамил замыслы горделивых сердец;

He has put down rulers from thrones, and exalted the lowly.

со престолов низверг властителей, а смиренных возвысил,

He has filled the hungry with good things, and sent away the rich empty.

алчущих утолил обилием, а богатых отослал ни с чем;

He has helped Israel his servant, in order to remember mercy,

пришел на помощь Израилю, рабу Своему, вспомнив о милости,

(as he spoke to our fathers,) to Abraham and to his seed for ever.

обетованной праотцам нашим, Аврааму и потомству его, вовеки».

And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her house.

И оставалась Мария с нею около трех месяцев, а после возвратилась в дом свой.

But the time was fulfilled for Elizabeth that she should bring forth, and she gave birth to a son.

Елисавете же настало время родов, и родила она сына;

And her neighbours and kinsfolk heard that [the] Lord had magnified his mercy with her, and they rejoiced with her.

и услышали ее соседи и родичи, что Господь явил к ней столь великую милость, и радовались вместе с ней.

And it came to pass on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they called it after the name of his father, Zacharias.

И вот в день восьмой пришли совершить над младенцем обрезание, и хотели назвать его по имени отца его Захарией.

And his mother answering said, No; but he shall be called John.

И мать его возразила: «Нет, имя ему будет Иоанн».

And they said to her, There is no one among thy kinsfolk who is called by this name.

И сказали ей, что, мол, в родне твоей нет никого, кто звался бы так; и

And they made signs to his father as to what he might wish it to be called.

стали знаками спрашивать отца, как бы он хотел назвать младенца.

And having asked for a writing-table, he wrote saying, John is his name. And they all wondered.

И он, потребовав дощечку для письма, написал: «Имя ему — Иоанн». И все изумились;

And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue, and he spake, blessing God.

но в тот же миг разрешились уста Захарии и язык его, и он заговорил, благословляя Бога.

And fear came upon all who dwelt round about them; and in the whole hill-country of Judaea all these things were the subject of conversation.

И нашел страх на всех, кто обитал по округе, и молва об этом прошла по всему нагорному краю Иудеи.

And all who heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, What then will this child be? And [the] Lord's hand was with him.

И все слышавшие слагали весть в сердце своем, спрашивая: «Чем же будет это дитя?» Ибо рука Господня была на нем.

And Zacharias his father was filled with [the] Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying,

И Захария, отец его, исполнился Духа Святого и пророчествовал такими словами:

Blessed be [the] Lord the God of Israel, because he has visited and wrought redemption for his people,

«Благословен Господь, Бог Израиля, ибо посетил Он народ Свой и сотворил ему избавление,

and raised up a horn of deliverance for us in the house of David his servant;

и воздвиг нам силу спасения в роду Давида, слуги Своего,

as he spoke by [the] mouth of his holy prophets, who have been since the world began;

как обещал Он устами святых, от века бывших пророков Своих, —

deliverance from our enemies and out of the hand of all who hate us;

спасение от врагов наших и от руки всех ненавидящих нас,

to fulfil mercy with our fathers and remember his holy covenant,

дабы сотворить милость ради отцов наших и вспомнить о Завете Своем святом,

[the] oath which he swore to Abraham our father,

о клятве, которою Он клялся ко Аврааму, отцу нашему, что Он даст нам

to give us, that, saved out of the hand of our enemies, we should serve him without fear

без страха, избавясь от рук врагов наших,

in piety and righteousness before him all our days.

служить Ему в святости и праведности пред лицом Его, во все дни жизни нашей.

And thou, child, shalt be called [the] prophet of [the] Highest; for thou shalt go before the face of [the] Lord to make ready his ways;

И ты, дитя, пророком Всевышнего будешь зваться, ты пойдешь пред лицом Господа, уготовляя пути Ему,

to give knowledge of deliverance to his people by [the] remission of their sins

подавая спасительное знание народу Его о прощении грехов их;

on account of [the] bowels of mercy of our God; wherein [the] dayspring from on high has visited us,

по любвеобильной милости Бога нашего, в которой посетит нас Заря свыше —

to shine upon them who were sitting in darkness and in [the] shadow of death, to guide our feet into [the] way of peace.

просветить скорбящих во мраке и тени смерти, и направить стопы наши на путь мира».

-- And the child grew and was strengthened in spirit; and he was in the deserts until the day of his shewing to Israel.

А отрок подрастал, и дух его укреплялся; и был он в местах пустынных, пока не пришел ему день явить себя Израилю.
