В те дни император Август издал указ о переписи по всей его империи.1

But it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census should be made of all the habitable world.

Это была первая перепись такого рода, и проводилась она в то время, когда Квириний правил Сирией.

The census itself first took place when Cyrenius had the government of Syria.

И на перепись каждый пошел в город свой.

And all went to be inscribed in the census roll, each to his own city:

Так и Иосиф из города Назарета, что в Галилее, отправился в Иудею, в город Давида, называемый Вифлеемом, потому что был он из рода Давида, его потомком.

and Joseph also went up from Galilee out of the city Nazareth to Judaea, to David's city, the which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,

Пошел он на перепись вместе с Марией, обрученной с ним. Она ожидала ребенка,

to be inscribed in the census roll with Mary who was betrothed to him [as his] wife, she being great with child.

и пока они находились в Вифлееме, пришло ей время родить.

And it came to pass, while they were there, the days of her giving birth [to her child] were fulfilled,

Родила она Сына, своего Первенца, спеленала Его и положила в ясли в хлеву, потому что на постоялом дворе места для них не нашлось.

and she brought forth her first-born son, and wrapped him up in swaddling-clothes and laid him in the manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

В окрестностях же Вифлеема были пастухи, которые жили в поле и, ночью сменяя друг друга, стерегли свое стадо.

And there were shepherds in that country abiding without, and keeping watch by night over their flock.

И предстал перед ними ангел Господень. Сияние света Господня2 озарило их. Они очень испугались,

And lo, an angel of [the] Lord was there by them, and [the] glory of [the] Lord shone around them, and they feared [with] great fear.

но ангел сказал им: «Не бойтесь! Я несу вам добрую весть — весть о великой радости для всего народа:

And the angel said to them, Fear not, for behold, I announce to you glad tidings of great joy, which shall be to all the people;

сегодня в городе Давида родился ваш Спаситель — Христос,3 Господь!

for to-day a Saviour has been born to you in David's city, who is Christ [the] Lord.

И вот вам знак: вы найдете Ребенка спеленатого, лежащего в яслях».

And this is the sign to you: ye shall find a babe wrapped in swaddling-clothes, and lying in a manger.

И внезапно вместе с ангелом явилось многочисленное небесное воинство, прославлявшее Бога. Ангелы пели:

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying,

«Слава Богу в высях небесных и мир земле! Благоволит Бог людям!»4

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good pleasure in men.

Когда ангелы, оставив их, возвратились на небо, пастухи стали говорить друг другу: «Пойдемте в Вифлеем и посмотрим на то, о чем возвестил нам Господь».

And it came to pass, as the angels departed from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, Let us make our way then now as far as Bethlehem, and let us see this thing that is come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.

Они поспешно отправились в путь и нашли Марию, Иосифа и Младенца, лежащего в яслях.

And they came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger;

Увидев их, пастухи возвестили им то, что узнали они об Этом Ребенке;

and having seen [it] they made known about the country the thing which had been said to them concerning this child.

и все, кто слышал пастухов, удивлялись их рассказу.

And all who heard [it] wondered at the things said to them by the shepherds.

Мария же хранила в своей памяти все эти слова, много думая о них.5

But Mary kept all these things [in her mind], pondering [them] in her heart.

А пастухи возвратились, хваля и прославляя Бога за то, что они увидели и услышали: всё произошло так, как им было сказано.

And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all things which they had heard and seen, as it had been said to them.

Восемь дней спустя пришло время совершить обрезание Младенца, и тогда Он был назван Иисусом — тем именем, которое еще до зачатия было дано Ему ангелом.

And when eight days were fulfilled for circumcising him, his name was called Jesus, which was the name given by the angel before he had been conceived in the womb.

Когда завершились дни их очищения по Закону Моисея,6 они принесли Младенца в Иерусалим, чтобы представить Его Господу

And when the days were fulfilled for their purifying according to the law of Moses, they brought him to Jerusalem to present [him] to the Lord

(как написано в Законе Господнем: «Всякий первенец мужского пола должен быть посвящен Господу»),7

(as it is written in the law of [the] Lord: Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord),

а также чтобы, как предписано Законом Господним, принести жертву: пару горлиц или двух птенцов голубя.8

and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of [the] Lord: A pair of turtle doves, or two young pigeons.

В то время в Иерусалиме жил человек по имени Симеон, праведный и богобоязненный человек, ожидающий спасения для Израиля;9 и Дух Святой был на нем.

And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was just and pious, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and [the] Holy Spirit was upon him.

И ему было открыто Духом Святым, что он не умрет, пока не увидит Христа Господня.

And it was divinely communicated to him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death before he should see [the] Lord's Christ.

Побуждаемый Духом, пришел он в Храм, и, когда родители принесли туда Младенца Иисуса, чтобы там сделать для Него всё, что предписывает Закон,

And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and as the parents brought in the child Jesus that they might do for him according to the custom of the law,

Симеон взял Его на руки, восхвалил Бога и сказал:

he received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,

«Ныне с миром отпускаешь Ты раба Своего, Владыка, по слову Твоему,

Lord, now thou lettest thy bondman go, according to thy word, in peace;

ибо увидели очи мои дарованное Тобой Спасение,

for mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

которое приготовил Ты перед лицом всех народов:

which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples;

Свет, несущий откровение язычникам, и Славу Израиля, народа Твоего!»

a light for revelation of [the] Gentiles and [the] glory of thy people Israel.

Отец и мать Иисуса очень удивились, услышав эти слова о Нем,

And his father and mother wondered at the things which were said concerning him.

а Симеон благословил их и сказал Марии, матери Иисуса: «Дитя это Богом предназначено многих в Израиле привести к тому, что они либо падут, либо поднимутся. Он — знамение Божие, знамение, которое окажется отвергнутым,10

And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, Lo, this [child] is set for the fall and rising up of many in Israel, and for a sign spoken against;

так что откроются помыслы многих сердец. И тебе самой меч пронзит душу».

(and even a sword shall go through thine own soul;) so that [the] thoughts may be revealed from many hearts.

И была там пророчица Анна, дочь Фануила из колена11 Асира, женщина весьма преклонного возраста. Прожив с мужем семь лет, будучи еще молодой,

And there was a prophetess, Anna, daughter of Phanuel, of [the] tribe of Asher, who was far advanced in years, having lived with [her] husband seven years from her virginity,

она осталась вдовой и жила так до восьмидесяти четырех лет. Анна не покидала Храма и служила Богу день и ночь, пребывая в постах и молитвах.

and herself a widow up to eighty-four years; who did not depart from the temple, serving night and day with fastings and prayers;

Подойдя к ним в это же самое время, она благодарила Бога и говорила о Младенце всем, кто ожидал избавления для Иерусалима.

and she coming up the same hour gave praise to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who waited for redemption in Jerusalem.

Когда Иосиф и Мария исполнили всё, положенное по Закону Господню, они возвратились в Галилею, в свой город Назарет.

And when they had completed all things according to the law of [the] Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own city Nazareth.

Ребенок рос, креп,12 исполняясь мудрости, и благословение Божие было на Нем.

And the child grew and waxed strong [in spirit], filled with wisdom, and God's grace was upon him.

Родители Иисуса каждый год ходили в Иерусалим на праздник Пасхи.

And his parents went yearly to Jerusalem at the feast of the passover.

Когда Ему исполнилось двенадцать лет, они, по обычаю, пошли на праздник.

And when he was twelve years old, and they went up [to Jerusalem] according to the custom of the feast

По окончании праздничных дней они отправились домой, не зная, что Мальчик Иисус остался в Иерусалиме.

and had completed the days, as they returned, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, and his parents knew not [of it];

Они думали, что Он с идущими вместе с ними родными, и лишь после дня пути стали искать Его среди родственников и знакомых.

but, supposing him to be in the company that journeyed together, they went a day's journey, and sought him among their relations and acquaintances:

Не найдя Иисуса, они в поисках Его возвратились в Иерусалим.

and not having found him they returned to Jerusalem seeking him.

Через три дня Его нашли в Храме, где Он сидел среди учителей, слушая их и задавая им вопросы.

And it came to pass, after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers and hearing them and asking them questions.

Все, кто слышал Его, удивлялись Его разуму и ответам.

And all who heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

Увидев Его, родители были поражены, и мать сказала Ему: «Сын мой, почему Ты так с нами поступил? Мы13 так извелись, пока искали Тебя».

And when they saw him they were amazed: and his mother said to him, Child, why hast thou dealt thus with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee distressed.

«Зачем же вы искали Меня? — сказал им Иисус. — Разве вы не знали, что Я должен быть в Доме Отца Моего?»14

And he said to them, Why [is it] that ye have sought me? did ye not know that I ought to be [occupied] in my Father's business?

Но они не поняли того, что Он им сказал.

And they understood not the thing that he said to them.

И Он пошел с родителями и возвратился в Назарет с ними и всегда был им послушен. А мать Его все эти слова хранила в своем сердце.

And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and he was in subjection to them. And his mother kept all these things in her heart.

Иисус же, подрастая, преуспевал в мудрости и любви у Бога и людей.

And Jesus advanced in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and men.
