Первое послание к Коринфянам святого апостола Павла

Не хочу оставлять вас в неведении, братья: при Исходе наши праотцы все были под тенью облака и все прошли через море —

Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

в облаке и море все они приняли крещение во имя Моисея.

And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

Все они ели одну и ту же пищу, дарованную Духом,

And did all eat the same spiritual meat;

и все пили воду, дарованную Духом. Они пили из скалы, которая сопровождала их, а эта скала есть Христос.

And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Но для многих из них воля Божья не была благой, и они остались лежать в пустыне.

But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

Всё это и для нас стало прообразом, чтобы мы не жаждали зла, как это было с ними.

Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

Не становитесь идолопоклонниками, подобно некоторым из них, как написано о золотом тельце: «народ сел есть и пить, а потом начал веселиться».

Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

И блудить не станем, как те из них, что впали в блуд, и так в один день погибли двадцать три тысячи.

Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

Не станем искушать Христа, как некоторые из них искушали Бога и погибли от змеиных укусов.

Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.

И не ропщите, как некоторые из них стали роптать и пали жертвами ангела-губителя.

Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

Всё, произошедшее с ними, стало прообразом и было записано нам в назидание — а при нас череда веков подходит к завершению.

Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

И кто уверен, что твердо стоит на ногах, пусть остерегается, как бы ему не пасть.

Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

Искушения, постигшие вас, обычны для людей. Бог верен Своим обещаниям и не позволит вам пережить искушение свыше ваших сил; при всяком искушении он даст и выход, чтобы его было можно перенести.

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

А потому, возлюбленные мои, избегайте идолослужения.

Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

Обращаюсь к тем, кто понимает: сами рассудите, что я говорю.

I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.

Чаша благословения — та, над которой мы произносим благословение, — разве не приобщает она нас крови Христовой? И хлеб, который мы преломляем, разве не приобщает нас телу Христову?

The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

Хлеб един, и все мы — единое тело, сколько бы нас ни причащалось от единого хлеба.

For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.

Посмотрите на тех, кто по рождению принадлежит к израильскому народу: все, кто вкушают жертвенное мясо — священники, служащие у жертвенника.

Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?

К чему я это говорю? Не к тому, что принесенное в жертву идолу или же сам идол что-то значат.

What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?

Но те, кто приносят такие жертвы, приносят их бесам, а не Богу, и я не хочу, чтобы у вас было с бесами хоть что-то общее.

But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.

Не можете вы пить и от чаши Господней, и от бесовской чаши, не можете участвовать и в трапезе Господней, и в бесовской трапезе.

Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.

Зачем нам дразнить Господа? Разве мы сильнее Его?

Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

Всё позволительно, но не всё полезно; всё позволительно, но не всё поучительно.

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

И пусть каждый ищет пользы не для себя, а для другого.

Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.

Всё, что продается на рынке, ешьте без расспросов и со спокойной совестью,

Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:

«ибо Господня земля и всё, что наполняет ее».

For the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof.

Если позовет вас к себе кто из неверующих и вы примете приглашение, ешьте всё, что предложат, без расспросов и со спокойной совестью.

If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.

Но если кто скажет вам: «эта пища была принесена в жертву идолу», — не ешьте ради того, кто объявил, и ради спокойной совести.

But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof:

Я имею в виду не вашу собственную совесть, а совесть того, кто это увидит. Зачем мою свободу предавать суду совести другого человека?

Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience?

Я с благодарностью принимаю пищу — а так меня станут бранить ровно за то, за что я сам благодарю!

For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?

Итак, едите ли вы, пьете ли, делаете ли что иное, делайте всё во славу Божию.

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Пусть не будет от вас огорчений ни иудеям, ни эллинам, ни церкви Божьей.

Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:

Так и я угождаю всем, стремясь не к собственной пользе, но к тому, чтобы спаслось как можно больше людей.

Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.
