Был болен один человек, Лазарь из Бет-Анийя, откуда были Мариам и её сестра Марта.

Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha.

Это была та Мариам, которая умастила Господа благовонием и вытерла Ему ноги волосами; её брат Лазарь и был болен.

It was the Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.

Так вот, сестры просили передать ему: «Знай, господин наш, тот, кого Ты любишь, болен».

So the sisters sent word to Him, saying, “Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.”

Услышав это, Иисус сказал: — Эта болезнь не смертельна, она дана ради Божьей славы — для прославления Сына Божьего.

But when Jesus heard this, He said, “This sickness is not to end in death, but for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified by it.”

Иисус любил Марту, её сестру и Лазаря.

Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.

Однако, узнав о болезни Лазаря, Он целых два дня оставался на месте,

So when He heard that he was sick, He then stayed two days longer in the place where He was.

и только потом сказал ученикам: — Давайте вернёмся в Иудею!

Then after this He said to the disciples, “Let us go to Judea again.”

Ученики возразили: — Рабби, только что евреи собирались побить Тебя камнями, а Ты хочешь пойти к ним снова.

The disciples said to Him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just now seeking to stone You, and are You going there again?”

Иисус ответил: — Не двенадцать ли часов длится день? Кто ходит днем, тот не спотыкается, ибо видит при свете этого мира,

Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.

а кто ходит ночью, тот спотыкается, ибо нет в нём света.

“But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.”

Сказав это, Он добавил: — Наш друг Лазарь уснул, но Я пойду его разбужу.

This He said, and after that He said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I go, so that I may awaken him out of sleep.”

Ученики ответили: — Господин наш, если он уснул, значит выздоровеет.

The disciples then said to Him, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.”

Иисус говорил о смерти Лазаря, а они решили, что Он говорит об обычном сне.

Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that He was speaking of literal sleep.

Тогда Иисус сказал им прямо: — Лазарь умер,

So Jesus then said to them plainly, “Lazarus is dead,

и Я радуюсь за вас, ибо Меня там не было, чтобы вы поверили. Но идём к нему!

and I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe; but let us go to him.”

Тогда Фома, что значит «близнец», говорит другим ученикам: — Пойдем и мы, чтобы умереть вместе с Ним!

Therefore Thomas, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go, so that we may die with Him.”

Прибыв на место, Иисус узнал, что тело Лазаря уже четыре дня покоится в гробнице.

So when Jesus came, He found that he had already been in the tomb four days.

А Бет-Анийя находится недалеко от Иерусалима, стадиях в пятнадцати.

Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles off;

Поэтому к Марте и Мариам пришло много евреев утешить их в скорби о брате.

and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary, to console them concerning their brother.

Узнав, что к ним идёт Иисус, Марта вышла Ему навстречу, а Мариам осталась дома.

Martha therefore, when she heard that Jesus was coming, went to meet Him, but Mary stayed at the house.

Увидев Иисуса, Марта сказала: — Господин мой, если бы Ты был здесь, не умер бы брат.

Martha then said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.

Но я знаю, что и сейчас Бог даст Тебе всё, чего бы Ты не попросил.

“Even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You.”

Иисус ответил: — Твой брат воскреснет.

Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”

Марта сказала: — Я знаю, что он воскреснет в последний день, при воскрешении мертвых.

Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.”

Иисус ответил: — Я — воскресение и жизнь.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies,

Верующий в Меня, даже если умрет, будет жить, а всякий, кто жив и верит в Меня, не умрет никогда. Ты веришь этому?

and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”

Она говорит: — Да, господин мой, я верю, что Ты — Помазанник, Сын Божий, который должен придти в мир.

She said to Him, “Yes, Lord; I have believed that You are the Christ, the Son of God, even He who comes into the world.”

С этими словами она ушла и позвала свою сестру Мариам, шепнув ей: «Учитель здесь, Он зовет тебя».

When she had said this, she went away and called Mary her sister, saying secretly, “The Teacher is here and is calling for you.”

Услышав это, Мариам быстро поднялась и пошла к нему.

And when she heard it, she got up quickly and was coming to Him.

Иисус не входил в селение, а всё ещё оставался там, где Его встретила Марта.

Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was still in the place where Martha met Him.

Пришедшие утешать Мариам евреи, увидев, как поспешно она встала и вышла, и решив, что она отправилась плакать у гробницы, пошли за ней.

Then the Jews who were with her in the house, and consoling her, when they saw that Mary got up quickly and went out, they followed her, supposing that she was going to the tomb to weep there.

Мариам, дойдя до места, где был Иисус, и увидев Его, пала к его ногам и сказала: — Господин мой, если бы Ты был здесь, не умер бы брат.

Therefore, when Mary came where Jesus was, she saw Him, and fell at His feet, saying to Him, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.”

Иисус, увидев, как плачет она и пришедшие с ней евреи, вознегодовал и, внутренне содрогнувшись,

When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her also weeping, He was deeply moved in spirit and was troubled,

спросил: — Где вы его погребли? Они ответили: — Идем, господин, мы покажем.

and said, “Where have you laid him?” They said to Him, “Lord, come and see.”

Иисус заплакал.

Jesus wept.

Евреи стали говорить: — Смотрите, как Он любил его.

So the Jews were saying, “See how He loved him!”

А кто-то из них заметил: — Неужели этот Человек, открывший глаза слепому, не мог что-нибудь сделать, чтобы Лазарь не умер!

But some of them said, “Could not this man, who opened the eyes of the blind man, have kept this man also from dying?”

Снова вознегодовав, Иисус приблизился к гробнице. Это была пещера, вход в которую был завален камнем.

So Jesus, again being deeply moved within, came to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone was lying against it.

Иисус сказал: — Уберите камень. Марта, сестра умершего, говорит ему: — Господин мой, уже смердит, — ведь пошёл четвертый день.

Jesus said, “Remove the stone.” Martha, the sister of the deceased, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there will be a stench, for he has been dead four days.”

Иисус сказал: — Разве не говорил я тебе: «Если будешь верить, увидишь Божью славу»?

Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”

Тогда они отодвинули камень. Иисус, подняв глаза к небу, сказал: — Благодарю тебя, Отец, за то, что ты услышал Меня.

So they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised His eyes, and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.

Я знаю, что Ты слышишь Меня всегда, но говорю это ради стоящих здесь — чтобы они поверили, что Я послан Тобой.

“I knew that You always hear Me; but because of the people standing around I said it, so that they may believe that You sent Me.”

Сказав это, Он громко крикнул: — Лазарь, выходи!

When He had said these things, He cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth.”

Вышел мертвец, по рукам и ногам обвитый льняной тканью, с лицом, закрытым покрывалом. Иисус приказал: — Распеленайте его, пусть идёт.

The man who had died came forth, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”

Из евреев, приходивших к Мариам и видевших, что Он сделал, многие поверили в Него.

Therefore many of the Jews who came to Mary, and saw what He had done, believed in Him.

А некоторые пошли к фарисеям и рассказали, что совершил Иисус.

But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them the things which Jesus had done.

Тогда первосвященники и фарисеи собрали Высокий Совет и стали обсуждать: «Что нам делать? Много знаков творит Этот Человек.

Therefore the chief priests and the Pharisees convened a council, and were saying, “What are we doing? For this man is performing many signs.

Если мы Ему позволим и дальше так действовать, то все в Него поверят, а тогда придут римляне и отнимут у нас и Святое Место и народ».

“If we let Him go on like this, all men will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.”

Один из них, некий Кайафа, в тот год первосвященник, сказал: — Вы ничего не понимаете!

But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all,

Подумайте, разве не лучше для вас, если один человек умрет за народ, а не целый народ пропадет?

nor do you take into account that it is expedient for you that one man die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish.”

Он сказал это не сам от себя, но так как был в тот год первосвященником, в пророческом вдохновении предсказал, что Иисус умрет за народ

Now he did not say this on his own initiative, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation,

и не только за народ, но и ради того, чтобы рассеянных повсюду Божьих детей собрать воедино.

and not for the nation only, but in order that He might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.

Итак, в этот день они приняли решение убить Его.

So from that day on they planned together to kill Him.

Поэтому Иисус уже не ходил среди евреев открыто, а ушёл оттуда в область на границе с пустыней, в город Эфраим, где и остался с учениками.

Therefore Jesus no longer continued to walk publicly among the Jews, but went away from there to the country near the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim; and there He stayed with the disciples.

Приближалась Пасха, еврейский праздник, и со всей страны люди поднялись в Иерусалим, чтобы очиститься накануне праздника.

Now the Passover of the Jews was near, and many went up to Jerusalem out of the country before the Passover to purify themselves.

Они искали там Иисуса и, собравшись в Храме, переговаривались: «Как вы думаете, не придет ли Он на праздник?»

So they were seeking for Jesus, and were saying to one another as they stood in the temple, “What do you think; that He will not come to the feast at all?”

А первосвященники и фарисеи, намереваясь схватить Его, распорядились, чтобы всякий, кто узнает, где Он, сообщал им.

Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where He was, he was to report it, so that they might seize Him.
