Паколькі (ужо) многія ўзяліся складаць апавяданьне адносна добра вядомых між намі падзей,

Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplished among us,

як перадалі нам тыя, што ад пачатку былі вачавідцы і служыцелі Слова,

just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word,

прыйшло на думку і мне, дасьледаваўшы наноў усё вельмі пільна, апісаць табе па парадку, высокашаноўны Тэахвіле,

it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus;

каб (ты) даведаўся адносна таго, (у) чым быў настаўлены: у верагоднасьці (гэных) слоў.

so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught.

Быў (жа) у дні Гірада, валадара жыдоўскага, нікаторы сьвятар імем Захар з Авіявай чаргі і жонка ягоная з дачок Агаронавых; і імя ейнае — Альжбета.

In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah; and he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.

Былі ж (яны) абое праведныя перад Богам, жывучы па ўсіх прыказаньнях і пастановах Госпадавых бяззаганна.

They were both righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of the Lord.

І ня было ў іх дзіцяці, бо Альжбета была няплодная, і абое (яны) былі састарэлымі ў днях сваіх.

But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in years.

Выпала ж яму служыць у парадку чаргі сваёй перад (Абліччам) Бога.

Now it happened that while he was performing his priestly service before God in the appointed order of his division,

Згодна звычаю сьвятароў атрымаў (ён) жэрабя кадзіць, увайшоўшы ў Сьвятыню Госпада;

according to the custom of the priestly office, he was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense.

і ўсё мноства народу ў час каджэньня малілася вонках.

And the whole multitude of the people were in prayer outside at the hour of the incense offering.

І зьявіўся яму Ангел Госпада, стоячы справа ад кадзільнага ахвярніка.

And an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing to the right of the altar of incense.

І сумеўся Захар, убачыўшы, і страх напаў на яго;

Zacharias was troubled when he saw the angel, and fear gripped him.

але Ангел сказаў яму: ня бойся, Захар, бо пачута малітва твая, і жонка твая Альжбета народзіць табе сына, і дасі яму імя Яан.

But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your petition has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will give him the name John.

І будзе табе радасьць і весялосьць, і многія ўзрадуюцца з нараджэньня ягонага;

“You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.

бо (ён) будзе вялікі перад Госпадам; і ня будзе піць віна і сікеру, і Духам Сьвятым напоўніцца яшчэ ў чэраве маткі сваёй;

“For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; and he will drink no wine or liquor, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit while yet in his mother’s womb.

і многіх сыноў Ізраэлявых наверне да Госпада Бога іхнага;

“And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God.

і ён будзе ісьці перад Ім у Духу і сіле Ільлі, каб вярнуць сэрцы ба́цькаў да дзяцей, і няпаслухмяных да мудрасьці праведных, каб падрыхтаваць Госпаду народ гатовы.

“It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, TO TURN THE HEARTS OF THE FATHERS BACK TO THE CHILDREN, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

І сказаў Захар Ангелу: па чым пазнаю я гэтае? бо я стары, і жонка мая састарэлая ў днях сваіх.

Zacharias said to the angel, “How will I know this for certain? For I am an old man and my wife is advanced in years.”

І, адказваючы, Ангел сказаў яму: я Гаўрыіл, што перад Вачамі Бога стаю, і пасланы гаварыць з табою і дабравесьціць табе гэтае.

The angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.

І вось, будзеш (ты) маўчаць, і ня здолееш гаварыць да таго дня, калі гэтае збудзецца, за тое, што (ты) ня паверыў словам маім, якія споўняцца ў свой час.

“And behold, you shall be silent and unable to speak until the day when these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.”

І чакаў народ Захара і дзівіўся, што ён марудзіць у Сьвятыні.

The people were waiting for Zacharias, and were wondering at his delay in the temple.

Выйшаўшы ж, ён ня мог гаварыць да іх, і (яны) пазналі, што (ён) бачыў у Сьвятыні зьяву; і ён даваў знакі ім і заставаўся нямым.

But when he came out, he was unable to speak to them; and they realized that he had seen a vision in the temple; and he kept making signs to them, and remained mute.

І сталася, як скончыліся дні служэньня ягонага, прыйшоў (ён) у дом свой.

When the days of his priestly service were ended, he went back home.

Пасьля ж гэтых дзён зачала́ Альжбета, жонка ягоная, і таілася пяць месяцаў, ка́жучы:

After these days Elizabeth his wife became pregnant, and she kept herself in seclusion for five months, saying,

так учыніў мне Госпад у дні, у якія Ён глянуў (на мяне, каб) зьняць зь мяне ганьбу між людзьмі.

“This is the way the Lord has dealt with me in the days when He looked with favor upon me, to take away my disgrace among men.”

У шосты ж месяц пасланы быў Ангел Гаўрыіл ад Бога ў места Галілейскае, якога назва Назарэт,

Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth,

да дзевы, заручанай з мужам, імя якому Язэп, з дому Давідавага; а імя дзевы — Марыля.

to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

І, увайшоўшы да яе, Ангел сказаў: радуйся, ласкай (Божай) абдараваная! Госпад з табою; багаслаўлена ты між жанок.

And coming in, he said to her, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.”

Яна ж, убачыўшы (яго), была зьбянтэжана ад слова ягонага і разважала, што гэта (за) прывітаньне магло бы быць?

But she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was.

І сказаў ёй Ангел: ня бойся, Марыля; бо (ты) знайшла Багадаць у Бога.

The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God.

І вось зачнеш у чэраве і народзіш Сына і дасі Яму Імя: Ісус.

“And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.

Ён будзе вялікі і Сынам Найвышэйшага будзе названы, і дасьць Яму Госпад Бог пасад Давіда, бацькі Ягонага,

“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;

і будзе гаспадарыць над домам Якубавым давеку, і Гаспадарству Ягонаму ня будзе канца.

and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.”

Марыля ж сказала Ангелу: як гэта будзе, калі (я) ня ведаю мужа?

Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?”

І, адказваючы, Ангел сказаў ёй: Дух Сьвяты найдзе́ на цябе, і сіла Найвышэйшага ахіне цябе: вось чаму і нараджаемы Сьвяты будзе названы Сынам Бога.

The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.

І вось, Альжбета, сваячка твая, і яна зачала́ сына ў старасьці сваёй, і гэта (ужо) ёй ёсьць шосты месяц, той, (якую) называюць няплоднай.

“And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month.

Бо ў Бога ніводнае слова ня застанецца бяссільным.

“For nothing will be impossible with God.”

І сказала Марыля: вось (я) — слуга Госпада; няхай станецца мне па слову твайму. І адыйшоў ад яе Ангел.

And Mary said, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

Устаўшы ж Марыля ў тыя дні борзда пайшла ў горную краіну, у места Юдзіна,

Now at this time Mary arose and went in a hurry to the hill country, to a city of Judah,

і ўвайшла ў дом Захара і прывітала Альжбету.

and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.

І сталася, як Альжбета ўчула прывітаньне Марылі, устрапянулася дзіцятка ў чэраве яе, і напоўнілася Альжбета Духам Сьвятым,

When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

і закрычала моцным голасам і сказала: багасла́ўлена ты між жанок, і багасла́ўлены Плод чэрава твайго.

And she cried out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!

І адкуль гэта мне, што прыйшла маці Госпада майго да мяне?

“And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me?

Бо вось, як голас вітаньня твайго дайшоў да вушэй маіх, устрапянулася вясёла дзіцятка ў чэраве маім.

“For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy.

І шчасьліва паверыўшая, бо збудзецца сказанае ёй ад Госпада.

“And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.”

І сказала Марыля: вяліча́е душа мая Госпада;

And Mary said: “My soul exalts the Lord,

і ўзрадаваўся дух мой у Богу Збавіцелю маім,

And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.

што глянуў (Ён) на пакорлівасьць рабыні Ягонай, бо вось адгэтуль шчасьліваю называць будуць мяне ўсе роды,

“For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave; For behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed.

бо вялікае ўчыніў мне Ду́жы; і сьвятое Імя Ягонае;

“For the Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is His name.

і міласэрнасьць Ягоная ў роды радоў для тых, што баяцца Яго.

“AND HIS MERCY IS UPON GENERATION AFTER GENERATION TOWARD THOSE WHO FEAR HIM.

(Ён) учыніў сілу Рукою Сваёю; расьсеяў напышаных думкай сэрца іхнага;

“He has done mighty deeds with His arm; He has scattered those who were proud in the thoughts of their heart.

скінуў моцных з пасадаў і ўзьнёс пакорлівых,

“He has brought down rulers from their thrones, And has exalted those who were humble.

галодных насыціў дабром, а багатыроў адправіў ні з чым;

“HE HAS FILLED THE HUNGRY WITH GOOD THINGS; And sent away the rich empty-handed.

падтрымаў Ізраэля, служку Ягонага, успомніў пра літасьць,

“He has given help to Israel His servant, In remembrance of His mercy,

як сказаў да ба́цькаў нашых, да Абрагама і насеньня ягонага давеку.

As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and his descendants forever.”

Прабыла-ж Марыля зь ёю каля трох месяцаў і вярнулася ў дом свой.

And Mary stayed with her about three months, and then returned to her home.

А Альжбеце настаў час нарадзіць, і яна нарадзіла сына.

Now the time had come for Elizabeth to give birth, and she gave birth to a son.

І пачулі суседзі ды сваякі ейныя, што Госпад явіў вялікую літасьць Ягоную над ёй і радаваліся зь ёю.

Her neighbors and her relatives heard that the Lord had displayed His great mercy toward her; and they were rejoicing with her.

І сталася: у восьмы дзень прыйшлі абрэзаць дзіця, і хацелі назваць яго па імені бацькі ягонага, Захарам.

And it happened that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to call him Zacharias, after his father.

І, адказаўшы, маці ягоная сказала: не, але названы будзе Яанам.

But his mother answered and said, “No indeed; but he shall be called John.”

І сказалі ёй: нікога няма ў радні тваёй, хто завецца імем гэтым.

And they said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by that name.”

І пыталіся знакамі ў бацькі ягонага, як бы (ён) хацеў назваць яго.

And they made signs to his father, as to what he wanted him called.

І, папрасіўшы дошчачку, (ён) напісаў, загадваючы: Яан ёсьць імя ягонае. І зьдзівіліся ўсе.

And he asked for a tablet and wrote as follows, “His name is John.” And they were all astonished.

У той жа час расчыніліся вусны ягоныя і язык ягоны, і (ён) стаў гаварыць, багаслаўляючы Бога.

And at once his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he began to speak in praise of God.

І напаў страх на ўсіх жыву́чых вакол іх; і па ўсёй горнай краіне Юдэйскай расказавалі (пра) усе гэтыя падзеі.

Fear came on all those living around them; and all these matters were being talked about in all the hill country of Judea.

І ўсе, хто пачуў, склалі (гэта) у сэрцы сваім, кажучы: «Кім жа будзе дзіця гэтае?» І Рука Госпада была зь ім.

All who heard them kept them in mind, saying, “What then will this child turn out to be?” For the hand of the Lord was certainly with him.

І Захар, бацька ягоны, быў напоўнены Духам Сьвятым і прарочыў, кажучы:

And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying:

«Багаславен Госпад Бог Ізраэляў таму, што наведаў і ўчыніў збаўленьне народу Ягонаму.

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people,

І ўзьняў Рог збаўленьня нам у доме Давідавым, слугі Ягонага,

And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of David His servant —

як абвясьціў праз вусны былых ад веку сьвятых прарокаў Сваіх,

As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from of old —

збаўленьне ад ворагаў нашых і ад рукі ўсіх нянавідзячых нас;

Salvation FROM OUR ENEMIES, And FROM THE HAND OF ALL WHO HATE US;

учыніць літасьць ба́цькам нашым і ўспомніць Запавет Свой сьвяты,

To show mercy toward our fathers, And to remember His holy covenant,

прысягу, якой прысягаўся Абрагаму, ба́цьку нашаму:

The oath which He swore to Abraham our father,

даць нам бяз страху, збавіўшы ад рукі ворагаў нашых, служыць Яму

To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, Might serve Him without fear,

у сьвятасьці і праведнасьці перад Ім усе дні жыцьця нашага.

In holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.

І ты, дзіця, прарокам Найвышэйшага названы будзеш; бо (ты) будзеш ісьці перад Абліччам Госпада, (каб) падрыхтаваць шляхі Яму;

“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; For you will go on BEFORE THE LORD TO PREPARE HIS WAYS;

даць веданьне збаўленьня народу Ягонаму ў дараваньні грахоў іхных

To give to His people the knowledge of salvation By the forgiveness of their sins,

па прычыне сардэчнай літасьці Бога нашага, у каторай адведаў нас Усход з вышынí,

Because of the tender mercy of our God, With which the Sunrise from on high will visit us,

(каб) прасьвяціць тых, што сядзяць у цемры і цяню сьмяротным, накіраваць ногі нашыя на дарогу міру».

TO SHINE UPON THOSE WHO SIT IN DARKNESS AND THE SHADOW OF DEATH, To guide our feet into the way of peace.”

А дзіця даро́сьлела і ўмацоўвалася духам, і было ў пустэльнях аж да дня зьяўленьня свайго Ізраэлю.

And the child continued to grow and to become strong in spirit, and he lived in the deserts until the day of his public appearance to Israel.
