Паколькі ўжо многія ўзялíся склада́ць аповесць пра падзеі, якія сярод нас адбылíся,

Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplished among us,

як перадалí нам тыя, што ад пачатку былí відаво́чцамі і служы́целямі Слова,

just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word,

прыйшло на думку і мне, дакладна дасле́даваўшы ўсё ад пачатку, паслядоўна апісаць табе, высокашаноўны Фео́філе,

it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus;

каб ты спазна́ў цвёрдую аснову таго вучэ́ння, у якім быў наста́ўлены.

so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught.

Быў у дні Ірада, цара Іудзейскага, адзін святар íмем Заха́рыя, з Авíевай чаргí; і жонка яго з роду Ааро́навага, імя́ ёй Елісавета.

In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah; and he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.

Былí яны абое праведныя перад Богам, жывучы́ паводле ўсіх за́паведзяў і ўстанаўле́нняў Гасподніх беззага́нна.

They were both righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of the Lord.

І не ме́лі яны дзіця́ці, бо Елісавета была́ няплодная, і абое былí ўжо на схíле гадоў сваіх.

But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in years.

І ста́лася: калі ў парадку сваёй чаргí ён служыў перад Богам,

Now it happened that while he was performing his priestly service before God in the appointed order of his division,

вы́пала яму, паводле звы́чаю святарскага, кадзíць, увайшоўшы ў храм Гасподні,

according to the custom of the priestly office, he was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense.

а ўсё мноства людзей малілася зво́нку ў час каджэ́ння;

And the whole multitude of the people were in prayer outside at the hour of the incense offering.

і явіўся яму Ангел Гасподні, сто́ячы справа ад кадзíльнага ахвя́рніка;

And an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing to the right of the altar of incense.

і суме́ўся Заха́рыя, убачыўшы, і страх напаў на яго.

Zacharias was troubled when he saw the angel, and fear gripped him.

Але Ангел сказаў яму: не бойся, Заха́рыя, бо пачу́та малітва твая, і жонка твая Елісавета наро́дзіць табе сына, і назавеш яго íмем Іаан,

But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your petition has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will give him the name John.

і будзе табе радасць і весялосць, і многія нараджэ́нню яго ўзрадуюцца;

“You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.

бо ён будзе вялікі перад Госпадам; і не будзе піць віна́ і сíкеру; і Духам Святым напоўніцца яшчэ ва ўлонні маці сваёй;

“For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; and he will drink no wine or liquor, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit while yet in his mother’s womb.

і многіх з сыноў Ізра́ілевых зве́рне да Госпада Бога іх;

“And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God.

і будзе ісці перад Ім у духу і сіле Іліí, каб вярну́ць сэ́рцы бацькоў да дзяцей, і непакорлівых да мудрасці праведных, каб падрыхтава́ць Госпаду народ гатовы.

“It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, TO TURN THE HEARTS OF THE FATHERS BACK TO THE CHILDREN, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

І сказаў Заха́рыя Ангелу: па чым я пазна́ю гэта? бо я стары́, і жонка мая́ на схíле гадоў сваіх.

Zacharias said to the angel, “How will I know this for certain? For I am an old man and my wife is advanced in years.”

І сказаў яму Ангел у адказ: я Гаўрыíл, што стаю перад Богам і пасла́ны гаварыць з табой і дабраве́сціць табе гэта;

The angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.

і вось, будзеш маўчаць і не зможаш гаварыць да таго дня, калі збу́дзецца гэта, за тое, што ты не паверыў сло́вам маім, якія здзе́йсняцца ў свой час.

“And behold, you shall be silent and unable to speak until the day when these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.”

І чакаў народ Заха́рыю і здзіўляўся, што ён мару́дзіць у храме.

The people were waiting for Zacharias, and were wondering at his delay in the temple.

Ён жа, вы́йшаўшы, не мог гаварыць да іх; і яны зразумелі, што ён бачыў відзе́нне ў храме; а ён рабіў ім знакі, і заставаўся нямы́м.

But when he came out, he was unable to speak to them; and they realized that he had seen a vision in the temple; and he kept making signs to them, and remained mute.

І ста́лася: калі скончыліся дні служэ́ння яго, пайшоў ён у дом свой.

When the days of his priestly service were ended, he went back home.

Пасля гэтых дзён зачала́ Елісавета, жонка яго, і таíлася пяць месяцаў, і гаварыла:

After these days Elizabeth his wife became pregnant, and she kept herself in seclusion for five months, saying,

так зрабіў мне Гасподзь у дні, калі спагля́нуў, каб зняць з мяне́ га́ньбу сярод людзе́й.

“This is the way the Lord has dealt with me in the days when He looked with favor upon me, to take away my disgrace among men.”

А ў шосты месяц пасла́ны быў Ангел Гаўрыíл ад Бога ў горад Галіле́йскі пад назвай Назарэ́т

Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth,

да Дзевы, зару́чанай з мужам, імя́ якому Іосіф, з дому Давíдавага; а імя́ Дзевы — Марыя.

to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

І, увайшоўшы да Яе, Ангел сказаў: радуйся, Благадатная! Гасподзь з Табою; благаславёная Ты сярод жанчын.

And coming in, he said to her, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.”

Яна ж, убачыўшы яго, збянтэ́жылася ад слова яго і разважа́ла, што́ ж гэта за віта́нне.

But she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was.

І сказаў Ёй Ангел: не бойся, Марыя, бо Ты знайшла благадаць у Бога.

The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God.

І вось, зачне́ш ва ўло́нні, і наро́дзіш Сы́на, і дасí Яму імя́: Іісус.

“And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.

Ён будзе вялікі, і Сы́нам Усявышняга будзе назва́ны, і дасць Яму Гасподзь Бог прастол Давіда, бацькі Яго;

“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;

і будзе царстваваць над домам Іакава давеку, і Царству Яго не будзе канца.

and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.”

І сказала Марыя Ангелу: як будзе гэта, калі Я мужа не знаю?

Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?”

Сказаў Ёй Ангел у адказ: Дух Святы найдзе́ на Цябе, і сіла Усявышняга ахіне́ Цябе; таму і Святое, што наро́дзіцца, Сы́нам Божым будзе назва́на;

The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.

і вось, Елісавета, сваячка Твая, і яна зачала́ сына ў старасці сваёй, і гэта ўжо шосты месяц у яе, якую называюць няплоднай;

“And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month.

бо не застане́цца бяссíльным у Бога ніводнае слова.

“For nothing will be impossible with God.”

Тады сказала Марыя: вось, Я — раба Гасподняя; няхай будзе Мне па слову твайму. І адышоў ад Яе Ангел.

And Mary said, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

І ўстаўшы, Марыя ў тыя дні пайшла з паспе́шнасцю ў горны край, у горад Іу́даў;

Now at this time Mary arose and went in a hurry to the hill country, to a city of Judah,

і ўвайшла ў дом Заха́рыі, і павіта́ла Елісавету.

and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.

І ста́лася: калі пачула Елісавета віта́нне Марыіна, устрапяну́лася дзіця́тка ва ўлонні яе; і напоўнілася Елісавета Духам Святым,

When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

і ўсклíкнула моцным голасам і сказала: благаславёная Ты сярод жанчын і благаславёны плод уло́ння Твайго!

And she cried out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!

І адкуль гэта мне, што прыйшла Маці Госпада майго да мяне?

“And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me?

Бо, калі голас віта́ння Твайго дайшоў да вушэ́й маіх, устрапяну́лася дзіця́тка радасна ва ўлонні маім.

“For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy.

І блажэнная Тая, што паверыла, бо збу́дзецца ска́занае Ёй ад Госпада.

“And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.”

І сказала Марыя: веліча́е душа Мая Госпада,

And Mary said: “My soul exalts the Lord,

і ўзра́даваўся дух Мой у Богу, Спасіцелі Маім,

And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.

што спагля́нуў Ён на пако́ру Рабы Сваёй; бо вось ад гэтага часу будуць зваць Мяне блажэ́ннай усе ро́ды;

“For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave; For behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed.

бо ўчынíў Мне вялікае Моцны, і святое імя́ Яго;

“For the Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is His name.

і міласэрнасць Яго ў ро́ды ро́даў да тых, што баяцца Яго;

“AND HIS MERCY IS UPON GENERATION AFTER GENERATION TOWARD THOSE WHO FEAR HIM.

Ён праявíў сілу рукою Сваёю; рассе́яў ганарлíвых ду́мкамі сэ́рца іх;

“He has done mighty deeds with His arm; He has scattered those who were proud in the thoughts of their heart.

скінуў моцных з прастолаў і ўзнёс пако́рлівых;

“He has brought down rulers from their thrones, And has exalted those who were humble.

галодных здаво́ліў дабром, а багатых адпусціў ні з чым;

“HE HAS FILLED THE HUNGRY WITH GOOD THINGS; And sent away the rich empty-handed.

прыхіну́ў Ізра́іля, слугу́ Свайго, па́мятаючы пра міласць, —

“He has given help to Israel His servant, In remembrance of His mercy,

як гаварыў бацька́м нашым, — да Аўраама і се́мені яго давеку.

As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and his descendants forever.”

Прабыла́ ж Марыя з ёю каля трох месяцаў і вярнулася ў дом Свой.

And Mary stayed with her about three months, and then returned to her home.

А Елісавеце настаў час радзíць, і яна нарадзíла сы́на.

Now the time had come for Elizabeth to give birth, and she gave birth to a son.

І пачулі суседзі і сваякі яе, што прымножыў Гасподзь міласць Сваю да яе і радаваліся з ёю.

Her neighbors and her relatives heard that the Lord had displayed His great mercy toward her; and they were rejoicing with her.

І ста́лася: у восьмы дзень прыйшлі абрэ́заць дзіця́, і хацелі назваць яго íмем ба́цькі яго, Заха́рыем.

And it happened that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to call him Zacharias, after his father.

І, адказваючы, маці яго сказала: не, а назва́ны будзе Іаанам.

But his mother answered and said, “No indeed; but he shall be called John.”

І сказалі ёй: няма нікога ў радні тваёй, хто б зваўся гэтым íмем.

And they said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by that name.”

І зна́камі пыталіся ў ба́цькі яго, я́к бы ён хацеў, каб назва́лі яго.

And they made signs to his father, as to what he wanted him called.

І, папрасіўшы дошчачку, ён напісаў: Іаан будзе імя́ яму. І здзівіліся ўсе.

And he asked for a tablet and wrote as follows, “His name is John.” And they were all astonished.

І адразу адкры́ліся ву́сны яго і язык яго, і ён стаў гаварыць, благаслаўля́ючы Бога.

And at once his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he began to speak in praise of God.

І быў страх ва ўсіх, хто жыў вакол іх; і па ўсім горным кра́і Іудзейскім расказвалі пра ўсё гэта.

Fear came on all those living around them; and all these matters were being talked about in all the hill country of Judea.

І ўсе, хто чуў, паклалі гэта ў сэ́рцы сваім, ка́жучы: што́ будзе з дзіця́ці гэтага? І рука Гасподняя была́ з ім.

All who heard them kept them in mind, saying, “What then will this child turn out to be?” For the hand of the Lord was certainly with him.

І Заха́рыя, бацька яго, напоўніўся Духам Святым і прарочыў, ка́жучы:

And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying:

благаславёны Гасподзь Бог Ізра́ілеў, што наведаў народ Свой і вы́купіў яго;

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people,

І ўзняў нам рог спасення ў доме Давіда, слугí Свайго,

And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of David His servant —

як сказаў ву́снамі святых Сваіх прарокаў адве́ку,

As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from of old —

што ўрату́е нас ад ворагаў нашых і ад рукí ўсіх, хто ненавідзіць нас;

Salvation FROM OUR ENEMIES, And FROM THE HAND OF ALL WHO HATE US;

каб зрабіць міласць бацька́м нашым і ўспомніць запаве́т Свой святы́,

To show mercy toward our fathers, And to remember His holy covenant,

кля́тву, якой кля́ўся Ён Аўрааму, бацьку нашаму, каб даць нам,

The oath which He swore to Abraham our father,

вы́зваленым ад рукí ворагаў нашых, без бо́язі

To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, Might serve Him without fear,

служы́ць Яму ў свя́тасці і пра́веднасці перад Ім ва ўсе дні жыцця́ нашага.

In holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.

І ты, дзіця́, прарокам Усявышняга будзеш назва́на, бо ты будзеш ісці перад аблíччам Госпада, каб падрыхтаваць шляхí Яму,

“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; For you will go on BEFORE THE LORD TO PREPARE HIS WAYS;

даць народу Яго спазна́ць спасе́нне ў адпушчэ́нні грахоў,

To give to His people the knowledge of salvation By the forgiveness of their sins,

па сардэчнай міласці Бога нашага, якою наве́даў нас Усход з вышынí,

Because of the tender mercy of our God, With which the Sunrise from on high will visit us,

каб асвятлíць тых, што сядзяць у це́мры і це́ні смерці, скірава́ць ногі нашы на шлях міру.

TO SHINE UPON THOSE WHO SIT IN DARKNESS AND THE SHADOW OF DEATH, To guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Дзіця ж расло і ўмацоўвалася духам; і было́ ў пусты́нях да дня з’яўле́ння свайго Ізра́ілю.

And the child continued to grow and to become strong in spirit, and he lived in the deserts until the day of his public appearance to Israel.
