Дорогой Феофил, многие взялись за составление описаний событий, произошедших среди нас.

Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplished among us,

Они основаны на фактах, переданных нам теми, кто с самого начала были очевидцами и глашатаями вести.

just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word,

И потому, Ваше Превосходительство, после тщательного исследования всего с самого начала, я посчитал правильным изложить для Вас всё точно и последовательно,

it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus;

чтобы Вы знали прочное основание того, чему были научены.

so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught.

Во времена Ирода, Царя Иуды, был священник по имени Захария, входивший в смену Авия. Его жена была из рода Аарона, звали её Елисавета.

In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah; and he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.

Оба они были праведны перед Богом и безукоризненно следовали всем заповедям и постановлениям Господа.

They were both righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of the Lord.

Однако у них не было детей, потому что Елисавета была бесплодна; а оба были уже в летах.

But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in years.

Однажды Захария выполнял обязанности священника, когда его смена совершала служение перед Богом,

Now it happened that while he was performing his priestly service before God in the appointed order of his division,

и ему выпал жребий (согласно традиции священников) войти в Храм и совершить всесожжение.

according to the custom of the priestly office, he was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense.

Все находились снаружи и молились, пока совершалось всесожжение,

And the whole multitude of the people were in prayer outside at the hour of the incense offering.

как вдруг справа от жертвенника перед Захарией предстал ангел Господа.

And an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing to the right of the altar of incense.

Увидев его, Захария пришёл в ужас.

Zacharias was troubled when he saw the angel, and fear gripped him.

Но ангел сказал ему: "Не бойся, Захария, потому что молитва твоя была услышана. Жена твоя Елисавета родит тебе сына, а ты назови его Иоанн.

But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your petition has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will give him the name John.

Он станет радостью и утешением для вас, и многие будут радоваться его рождению,

“You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.

так как он будет велик в глазах Господа. Он не будет пить вина и других крепких напитков и ещё в чреве матери будет исполнен Святого Духа.

“For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; and he will drink no wine or liquor, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit while yet in his mother’s womb.

Многих из народа Израиля обратит он к Господу, Богу их.

“And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God.

Он выйдет перед Господом в духе и силе Илии, чтобы возвратить сердца отцов к детям (Малахия 3:23-24(4:5-6), и непокорных — к мудрости праведных, чтобы приготовить для Господа народ".

“It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, TO TURN THE HEARTS OF THE FATHERS BACK TO THE CHILDREN, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Захария сказал ангелу: "Как я могу быть уверен в этом? Ведь я старый человек, жена моя тоже в летах".

Zacharias said to the angel, “How will I know this for certain? For I am an old man and my wife is advanced in years.”

"Я Гавриил, — ответил ему ангел, — и стою в присутствии Бога. Я был послан говорить с тобой и сообщить тебе эту радостную весть.

The angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.

Теперь же, поскольку ты не поверил сказанному мной, и что оно исполнится в должное время, ты будешь молчать и не сможешь говорить до того дня, как всё это произойдёт".

“And behold, you shall be silent and unable to speak until the day when these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.”

Между тем люди ждали Захарию, удивляясь тому, что он так долго находится в Храме.

The people were waiting for Zacharias, and were wondering at his delay in the temple.

Когда же он вышел и не мог говорить, они поняли, что он видел в Храме видение. Не говоря ни слова, он объяснялся с ними жестами.

But when he came out, he was unable to speak to them; and they realized that he had seen a vision in the temple; and he kept making signs to them, and remained mute.

Когда время его служения в Храме подошло к концу, он вернулся домой.

When the days of his priestly service were ended, he went back home.

Вслед за тем его жена Елисавета зачала и в течение пяти месяцев жила в уединении, говоря:

After these days Elizabeth his wife became pregnant, and she kept herself in seclusion for five months, saying,

"Господь сделал это для меня; проявил ко мне благосклонность в эти дни, сняв с меня позор".

“This is the way the Lord has dealt with me in the days when He looked with favor upon me, to take away my disgrace among men.”

На шестой месяц ангел Гавриил был послан Богом в город в Галилеи под названием Назарет

Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth,

к девушке, обручённой с человеком по имени Иосиф, из дома Давида; девушку ту звали Мария.

to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

Приблизившись к ней, ангел сказал: "Мир вам, госпожа, снискавшая расположение! Господь с тобой!"

And coming in, he said to her, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.”

Она была сильно взволнована его словами и не могла понять, что это за приветствие.

But she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was.

Ангел сказал ей: "Не бойся, Мария, ибо ты снискала расположение у Бога.

The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God.

Вот, ты зачнёшь и родишь сына, и назовёшь его Иисус.

“And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.

Он будет велик, и назовётся Сыном Всевышнего. Господь, Бог, отдаст ему трон его праотца Давида;

“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;

и он будет править Домом Иакова вечно, и его Царству не будет конца".

and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.”

"Как это может произойти, если я девственница?" — спросила Мария у ангела.

Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?”

Ангел сказал ей в ответ: "Святой Дух сойдёт на тебя, сила Всевышнего покроет тебя. Поэтому святое дитя, рождённое тобой, будет названо Божьим Сыном.

The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.

У тебя есть родственница, Елисавета, которая уже стара, и все считают её бесплодной. Однако она зачала сына и беременна уже шесть месяцев!

“And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month.

Потому что у Бога нет ничего невозможного".

“For nothing will be impossible with God.”

Мария сказала: "Я слуга Господа, пусть со мной всё будет так, как ты сказал".

And Mary said, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

Тотчас же Мария отправилась в дорогу и поспешила в город, находившийся в горах Иудеи,

Now at this time Mary arose and went in a hurry to the hill country, to a city of Judah,

где жил Захария, вошла в его дом и поздоровалась с Елисаветой.

and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.

Когда Елисавета услышала приветствие Марии, ребёнок в её чреве зашевелился. Елисавета наполнилась Святым Духом

When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

и громко сказала: "Благословенна ты среди женщин! И благословен ребёнок в твоём чреве!

And she cried out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!

Но кто я такая, чтобы мать моего Господа пришла ко мне?

“And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me?

Ведь как только звук твоего приветствия достиг моих ушей, ребёнок в моём чреве заиграл от радости!

“For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy.

В самом деле, благословенна ты, потому что поверила, что обещанное тебе Господом, исполнится".

“And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.”

Тогда Мария сказала: "Душа моя превозносит Господа,

And Mary said: “My soul exalts the Lord,

и дух мой радуется в Боге, Спасителе моём,

And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.

который заметил свою рабу в смирении её. (1 Царств 2:1, 1:11) Ибо впредь — подумать только! — все поколения будут называть меня благословенной!

“For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave; For behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed.

Могущественный сделал для меня великое! Да, свято Его имя;

“For the Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is His name.

и в каждом поколении Он проявляет милость к боящимся Его . (Псалом 110:9, 102:17)

“AND HIS MERCY IS UPON GENERATION AFTER GENERATION TOWARD THOSE WHO FEAR HIM.

Он сотворил великие дела Своей рукой, обратил в бегство гордых сердцем,

“He has done mighty deeds with His arm; He has scattered those who were proud in the thoughts of their heart.

свергнул с тронов правителей, возвысил смиренных,

“He has brought down rulers from their thrones, And has exalted those who were humble.

дал блага голодным, а богатых отпустил ни с чем.

“HE HAS FILLED THE HUNGRY WITH GOOD THINGS; And sent away the rich empty-handed.

Он стал на сторону Своего слуги Израиля, помня о милости,

“He has given help to Israel His servant, In remembrance of His mercy,

которую обещал нашим отцам, Аврааму и его семени навеки".

As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and his descendants forever.”

Мария оставалась у Елисаветы около трёх месяцев, и затем вернулась домой.

And Mary stayed with her about three months, and then returned to her home.

Елисавете настало время рожать, и она родила сына.

Now the time had come for Elizabeth to give birth, and she gave birth to a son.

Её соседи и родственники узнали о том, как добр был к ней Господь, и радовались вместе с ней.

Her neighbors and her relatives heard that the Lord had displayed His great mercy toward her; and they were rejoicing with her.

На восьмой день они пришли сделать ребёнку ритуал обрезания. Они уже собирались назвать его Захарией, в честь отца,

And it happened that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to call him Zacharias, after his father.

но мать его громко сказала: "Нет, нужно назвать его Иоанном".

But his mother answered and said, “No indeed; but he shall be called John.”

Они сказали ей: "У вас в роду никого так не звали",

And they said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by that name.”

и спрашивали у отца жестами, как бы он хотел его назвать.

And they made signs to his father, as to what he wanted him called.

Тот подал знак, чтобы ему принесли дощечку, и ко всеобщему удивлению написал на ней: "Его имя — Иоанн".

And he asked for a tablet and wrote as follows, “His name is John.” And they were all astonished.

И в этот момент к нему вернулся дар речи, и первыми его словами было благословение Богу.

And at once his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he began to speak in praise of God.

Все соседи были охвачены благоговейным страхом; и по всей горной области Иудеи люди говорили о том, что произошло.

Fear came on all those living around them; and all these matters were being talked about in all the hill country of Judea.

Все, кто слышали об этом, задавались вопросом: "Кем же будет этот ребёнок?" Так как несомненно рука Господа была с ним.

All who heard them kept them in mind, saying, “What then will this child turn out to be?” For the hand of the Lord was certainly with him.

Отец ребёнка, Захария, наполнился Святым Духом и произнёс пророчество:

And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying:

"Да будет возвеличен Господь, Бог Израиля", (Псалом 40:14, 71:18, 105:48) потому что Он посетил Свой народ и сотворил для него искупление

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people,

воздвигнув для нас могущественного Спасителя, потомка слуги Его Давида.

And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of David His servant —

Как говорил устами пророков от самого начала —

As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from of old —

что мы будем освобождены от врагов и от власти всех ненавидящих нас.

Salvation FROM OUR ENEMIES, And FROM THE HAND OF ALL WHO HATE US;

Это случилось для того, чтобы Он мог проявить милость, обещанную нашим отцам, вспомнить Свой святой договор,

To show mercy toward our fathers, And to remember His holy covenant,

клятву, которой клялся отцу нашему Аврааму —

The oath which He swore to Abraham our father,

дать нам, по избавлении от наших врагов, служить Ему без страха;

To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, Might serve Him without fear,

в святости и праведности перед Ним все дни нашей жизни.

In holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.

Ты, дитя, назовёшься пророком Всевышнего, Ты выйдешь перед Господом, чтобы приготовить Ему путь, (Малахия 3:1, Исайя 40:3)

“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; For you will go on BEFORE THE LORD TO PREPARE HIS WAYS;

возвещая среди Его народа о том, что спасение — в прощении грехов

To give to His people the knowledge of salvation By the forgiveness of their sins,

по любви и милосердию Бога, благодаря которым Утренняя Заря посетит нас с Небес,

Because of the tender mercy of our God, With which the Sunrise from on high will visit us,

чтобы осветить находящихся во тьме, живущих в тени смертной (Исайя 9:1(2) и направить наши стопы на путь мира".

TO SHINE UPON THOSE WHO SIT IN DARKNESS AND THE SHADOW OF DEATH, To guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Ребёнок рос и становился сильным в духе, и жил в пустыне до тех пор, пока не пришло время появиться открыто перед Израилем.

And the child continued to grow and to become strong in spirit, and he lived in the deserts until the day of his public appearance to Israel.
