Як ужо многія браліся напісаць аповесьць аб зусім добра вядомых сярод вас здарэньнях,

Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplished among us,

як пераказалі нам тое быўшыя з са́мага пачатку вачавідцамі і слугамі Слова,

just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word,

то прыйшло на думку і мне́, пільна разьве́даўшы аб усім ад пачатку, як сьле́д апісаць табе́, высокапаважаны Феафіле,

it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus;

каб ты даве́даўся праўду аб тых словах, якіх цябе́ навучылі.

so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught.

Быў у дні Ірада, цара Юдэйскага, сьвяшчэньнік з Авіявае чаргі, на імя Захарыя, і жонка яго з дачок Ааронавых; і было імя яе́ Альжбе́та.

In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah; and he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.

Былі-ж яны абое праведныя перад Богам, паступаючы паводле прыказаньняў і законаў Госпада беззаганна.

They were both righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of the Lord.

І ня было ў іх дзіцяці, бо Альжбе́та была няплодная, і абое яны былі паджылыя ў гадох сваіх.

But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in years.

І ста́лася, калі ў парадку свае́ чаргі служыў ён перад Богам,

Now it happened that while he was performing his priestly service before God in the appointed order of his division,

выпала яму паводле звычаю сьвяшчэньнікаў увайсьці ў царкву Гасподнюю кадзíць;

according to the custom of the priestly office, he was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense.

а ўся маса народу вонках малілася ў час каджэньня.

And the whole multitude of the people were in prayer outside at the hour of the incense offering.

І зьявіўся яму Ангел Гасподні, стоячы справа ля кадзільнага ахвярніку.

And an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing to the right of the altar of incense.

І спалохаўся Захарыя, убачыўшы яго, і зьняў яго страх.

Zacharias was troubled when he saw the angel, and fear gripped him.

Ангел жа сказаў яму: ня бойся, Захарыя; бо вы́слухана малітва твая, і жонка твая Альжбе́та ўродзіць табе́ сына, і дасі яму імя — Іоан.

But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your petition has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will give him the name John.

І будзе табе́ радасьць і ўце́ха, і многія ўзрадуюцца з нараджэньня яго.

“You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.

Бо ён будзе вялікі перад Госпадам; і ня будзе піць віна і сікеру, і Духам Сьвятым напоўніцца яшчэ ў чэраве маткі свае́.

“For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; and he will drink no wine or liquor, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit while yet in his mother’s womb.

І многіх з сыноў Ізраілявых наве́рне да Госпада Бога іх.

“And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God.

І пройдзе перад Ім у духу і сіле Ільлі, каб вярнуць сэрцы бацькоў дзе́цям, і непаслухмя́ных да мудрасьці праведных, каб прыгатаваць Госпаду народ падгатоўлены.

“It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, TO TURN THE HEARTS OF THE FATHERS BACK TO THE CHILDREN, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

І сказаў Захарыя Ангелу: Па чым пазна́ю я гэтае? То-ж я стары́, і жонка мая ў гадо́х пажылых.

Zacharias said to the angel, “How will I know this for certain? For I am an old man and my wife is advanced in years.”

І сказаў яму Ангел у адказ: я — Гаўрыіл, што перад Богам стаю, і пасла́ны гаварыць з табою і абвясьціць табе́ гэтае.

The angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.

І вось, будзеш ты маўчаць, і ня здолееш гаварыць да дня, калі гэтае станецца: за тое, што не паве́рыў словам маім, якія збудуцца ў свой час.

“And behold, you shall be silent and unable to speak until the day when these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.”

І ждаў народ Захарыю і дзівіўся, што ён марудзіць у царкве́.

The people were waiting for Zacharias, and were wondering at his delay in the temple.

Выйшаўшы-ж, ён ня мог гаварыць да іх: і пазналі, што бачыў зья́ву ў царкве́; і ён ківаў і астаўся не́мы.

But when he came out, he was unable to speak to them; and they realized that he had seen a vision in the temple; and he kept making signs to them, and remained mute.

І сталася, як скончыліся дні службы яго, вярнуўся ён у дом свой.

When the days of his priestly service were ended, he went back home.

Пасьля гэтых дзён зачала Альжбе́та, жонка яго, і таілася пяць ме́сяцаў, ды гаварыла:

After these days Elizabeth his wife became pregnant, and she kept herself in seclusion for five months, saying,

так учыніў мне́ Госпад у дні гэтыя, як глянуў на мяне́, каб зьняць з мяне́ ганьбу між людзьмі.

“This is the way the Lord has dealt with me in the days when He looked with favor upon me, to take away my disgrace among men.”

У шосты-ж ме́сяц пасланы быў Ангел Гаўрыіл ад Бога ў места Галіле́йскае, называнае Назарэт,

Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth,

да дзе́вы, зару́чанай з мужам іме́ньнем Язэп, з дому Давідавага; імя-ж дзе́вы — Марыя.

to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

Ангел, увайшоўшы да яе́, сказаў: радуйся, дабрадатная! Госпад з табою; багасла́ўлена ты між жанок.

And coming in, he said to her, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.”

Яна-ж, убачыўшы яго, спалохалася ад слоў яго і разважала, што-б гэта было за прывітаньне такое?

But she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was.

І сказаў ёй Ангел: ня бойся, Марыя; бо ты знайшла ласку ў Бога.

The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God.

І вось зачне́ш у чэраве і народзіш Сына, і дасі Яму імя: Ісус.

“And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.

Ён будзе вялікі і Сынам Найвышэйшага назаве́цца, і дасьць Яму Госпад Бог пасад Давіда, бацькі Яго,

“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;

і цары́ць будзе над домам Якава даве́ку, і царству Яго ня будзе канца.

and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.”

Марыя-ж сказала Ангелу: як гэта будзе, калі я ня знаю мужа?

Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?”

І ў адказ сказаў ей: Дух Сьвяты найдзе́ на цябе́, і сіла Найвышэйшага ахіне́ цябе́: вось чаму й тое, што народзіцца сьвятое, Сынам Божым назаве́цца.

The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.

Вось і Альжбе́та, сваячка твая, і яна зачала сына ў ста́расьці сваёй, і гэта ўжо шосты ме́сяц у яе́, хоць і называнай няплоднай.

“And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month.

Бо-ж у Бога ніводнае слова ня будзе немагчымым.

“For nothing will be impossible with God.”

І сказала Марыя: вось я — слуга Госпада; няхай ста́нецца мне́ па слову твайму. І адыйшоў ад яе́ Ангел.

And Mary said, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

Устаўшы-ж Марыя ў тыя дні борзда пайшла ў горную краіну, у ме́ста Юдзіна.

Now at this time Mary arose and went in a hurry to the hill country, to a city of Judah,

І ўвайшла ў дом Захарыі і прывітала Альжбе́ту.

and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.

І ста́лася, як Альжбе́та ўчула прывітаньне Марыі, узварухну́лася дзіцятка ў чэраве яе́, і Альжбе́та напоўнілася Духам Сьвятым.

When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

І загаласіла моцным голасам і сказала: багасла́ўлена ты між жанок, і багасла́ўлены плод чэ́рава твайго.

And she cried out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!

І адкуль гэтае мне́, што прыйшла маці Госпада майго да мяне́?

“And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me?

Бо вось, як голас вітаньня твайго дайшоў да вушэй маіх, узварухнулася вясёла дзіцятка ў чэраве маім.

“For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy.

І шчасьлíва паве́рыўшая: бо збудзецца сказанае ёй ад Госпада.

“And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.”

І сказала Марыя: вяліча́е душа мая́ Госпада;

And Mary said: “My soul exalts the Lord,

і ўзрадаваўся дух мой у Богу Спасіцелю маім,

And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.

што глянуў Ён на пакорнасьць рабы свае́, бо адгэтуль шчасьліваю называцімуць мяне́ ўсе́ роды,

“For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave; For behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed.

бо вялікае ўчыніў мне́ Дужы́; і сьвятое імя Яго;

“For the Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is His name.

і міласьць Яго ў роды радоў для тых, што баяцца Яго.

“AND HIS MERCY IS UPON GENERATION AFTER GENERATION TOWARD THOSE WHO FEAR HIM.

Учыніў сілу рукой сваёй; рассе́яў гордых думкамі сэрца іх;

“He has done mighty deeds with His arm; He has scattered those who were proud in the thoughts of their heart.

адабраў у моцных пасады, узьвялічыў пакорных,

“He has brought down rulers from their thrones, And has exalted those who were humble.

галодных здаволіў дабром, а багатыроў адпусьціў ні з чым.

“HE HAS FILLED THE HUNGRY WITH GOOD THINGS; And sent away the rich empty-handed.

Прыняў Ізраіля, слугу свайго, успомніў міласьць,

“He has given help to Israel His servant, In remembrance of His mercy,

як гаварыў да айцоў нашых, да Аўраама і насе́ньня яго даве́ку.

As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and his descendants forever.”

Прабыла-ж Марыя з ёю каля трох ме́сяцаў і вярнулася ў дом свой.

And Mary stayed with her about three months, and then returned to her home.

Альжбе́це-ж настаў час радзіць, і яна ўрадзіла сына.

Now the time had come for Elizabeth to give birth, and she gave birth to a son.

І пачулі сусе́дзі ды сваякі яе́, што ўзьвялічыў Госпад міласьць сваю над ёю, і це́шыліся з ёю.

Her neighbors and her relatives heard that the Lord had displayed His great mercy toward her; and they were rejoicing with her.

У восмы дзе́нь прыйшлі абрэзаць дзіцятка і хаце́лі назваць яго па іме́ньню бацькі яго Захарыям.

And it happened that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to call him Zacharias, after his father.

На гэтае маці яго сказала: не́, а назваць яго Іоанам.

But his mother answered and said, “No indeed; but he shall be called John.”

І сказалі ёй: нікога няма ў родзе тваім, хто зваўся-б гэтым іме́ньнем.

And they said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by that name.”

І пыталіся на міга́х у бацькі, як бы ён хаце́ў назваць яго.

And they made signs to his father, as to what he wanted him called.

Ён зажадаў дошчачку і напісаў: Іоан імя яму. І ўсе́ дзівіліся.

And he asked for a tablet and wrote as follows, “His name is John.” And they were all astonished.

І ў той жа час расчыніліся вусны яго і язык яго, і ён стаў гаварыць, багасла́ўлючы Бога.

And at once his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he began to speak in praise of God.

І страх узьняўся сярод сусе́дзяў іх; і расказвалі пра ўсё гэтае па ўсёй нагорнай старане́ Юдэйскай.

Fear came on all those living around them; and all these matters were being talked about in all the hill country of Judea.

І ўсе́ чуўшыя ўзялі гэтае да сэрца свайго і гаварылі: што-ж гэта будзе за дзіця? І рука Госпадава была з ім.

All who heard them kept them in mind, saying, “What then will this child turn out to be?” For the hand of the Lord was certainly with him.

І Захарыя, бацька яго, напоўніўся Сьвятым Духам і прарочыў, кажучы:

And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying:

Багасла́ўлены Госпад Бог Ізраіляў, што адве́даў народ свой і даў выбаўле́ньне яму;

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people,

і падняў рог спасе́ньня нашага ў доме Давіда, слугі Свайго,

And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of David His servant —

(як апавясьцíў вуснамі быўшых ад ве́ку сьвятых прарокаў Сваіх),

As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from of old —

спасе́ нас ад ворагаў нашых і ад рукі ўсіх ненавíдзячых нас;

Salvation FROM OUR ENEMIES, And FROM THE HAND OF ALL WHO HATE US;

і ўчы́ніць ла́ску бацьком нашым і спамяне́ сьвяты тастамант свой,

To show mercy toward our fathers, And to remember His holy covenant,

прысягу, што кляўся Аўрааму, бацьцы нашаму, даць нам,

The oath which He swore to Abraham our father,

не з баязьні, па выбаўле́ньні з рукі ворагаў нашых

To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, Might serve Him without fear,

служыць Яму ў сьвятасьці і праўдзе перад ім у-ва ўсе́ дні жыцьця нашага.

In holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.

І ты, дзіцятка, назавешся прарокам Усявышняга, бо пройдзеш напе́рад прад абліччам Госпада — прыгатаваць шляхі Яму,

“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; For you will go on BEFORE THE LORD TO PREPARE HIS WAYS;

даць народу пазнаць спасе́ньне ў адпушчэньні грахоў яго,

To give to His people the knowledge of salvation By the forgiveness of their sins,

па ўну́транаму міласэрдзю Бога нашага, якім адве́даў нас Усход з вышыні,

Because of the tender mercy of our God, With which the Sunrise from on high will visit us,

прасьвяціць тых, што ў це́мры і ў цяню́ сьмяротным, пакіраваць ногі нашыя, на дарогу міра.

TO SHINE UPON THOSE WHO SIT IN DARKNESS AND THE SHADOW OF DEATH, To guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Дзіця-ж узрастала і ўмацоўвалася духам, і было ў пустынях да дня зьяўле́ньня свайго Ізраілю.

And the child continued to grow and to become strong in spirit, and he lived in the deserts until the day of his public appearance to Israel.
